Imagine living in Lesotho and discovered that most of the world is underwater but your country is protected by South Africa who suffered half their nation lost to the armies of Atlantis
The Greenland part doesn't make sense because the elevation is only high right now because of all the ice cap. If the sea level were to rise by 100 metres, it would turn into an archipelago with much of the middle part submerging.
@@JcDizon The ice sitting on Greenland does push it down, so if it all melts the land mass would rise. Don't know how much of a difference it would make though

All of Lesotho is above 1000m. It's lowest point is 1400m. I've got no idea where you got 80% above 1000m, which is virtual contradiction of your following true claim of it being still landlocked.
Snowdon just gets above 1000m (by 85m) so does Carrauntoohil so Wales and Ireland would still exist just England is completely gone Scotland would be about 130 island peaks
2:55 interestingly, the only part of Australia to still remain besides blue mountains in New South Wales would be Buff Knoll, the highest point of Western Australia which would now be just under 100m avove sea level and possibly the most remote piece of land in this scenario
A similar scenario plays out in the Star Trek: Deep Space 9 episode “Our Man, Bashir”. Dr. Bashir is running a spy holonovel where the villain, Hippocrates Noah, plans to flood the entire Earth except for his retreat on Mount Everest, where he has gathered the greatest scientists & artists from around the world. Strategically positioning powerful lasers at various locations, Noah planned to use them on the surface, producing massive fissures in the Earth's crust that would release millions of tons of molten lava. The end result would be a significant reduction in the surface area of the planet - "like letting air out of a balloon," as he described it - causing massive flooding.
Greenland’s elevation is due to the ice caps. Given this video is about if all the ice melted, that would include all the ice on Greenland, so it wouldn’t look like that.
There'll be lots of little islands in the UK, particularly in Scotland. In Scotland they are grouped by height and any mountain over 2500 feet is called a Corbet; any mountain in Scotland over 3000 feet is called a Munro. Munro Bagging is a popular hobby and there are currently about 282 of them. 1000m is 3280 feet so many will still exist as will other peaks in the UK over that height. Unfortunately all the smaller Corbets will disappear. Sorry about that. Try Porridge instead :)
Plus, you’d have to account for isostatic rebound which would make Antarctica a bit bigger. A lot of Greenland is currently below Sea Level, so rebound would definitely make a difference there!
If you're interested in how this might play out... The Flood is a science fiction novel written by Stephen Baxter, published in 2008. It is part of a duology, followed by Ark (2009). The book explores a near-future world where catastrophic sea level rise occurs. The story spans several decades and focuses on a group of characters who witness the gradual submergence of the Earth under water. The central plot revolves around the discovery that underground reservoirs of water, previously unknown to humanity, are rapidly being released. This leads to a relentless rise in sea levels that soon overwhelms the continents, causing societal collapse, mass migrations, and widespread panic as humanity struggles to survive the ever-encroaching floodwaters. Baxter's narrative combines personal stories of survival with broader political, social, and environmental themes. The characters are faced with not only the physical threat of the flood but also the psychological toll of losing their world and watching civilization collapse. The novel explores themes such as human resilience, the fragility of civilisation, the consequences of environmental degradation, and the limits of scientific understanding. Baxter’s detailed approach to science and technology, combined with the emotional journeys of the characters, makes The Flood a gripping and thought-provoking speculative fiction. In Ark, the follow-up, Baxter continues the story by focusing on humanity's attempts to escape the Earth and colonize space as the floodwaters render the planet uninhabitable.
I'm no expert in this field, but I think if you do the calculations you will find there is simply not enough water or ice in the world for sea levels to rise 1,000m . A 60m rise maybe or perhaps even 100m but not 1,000. If anyone has more info on this, please enlighten us further.
There's not enough water on the plane for the oceans to rise even 100 meters. Scientific estimates allow for an absolute worst case scenario to be about 70 meters. More realistic would be 2 meters by 2100.
The middle of Greenland is gone in the "all ice melted" map but not the 1km map. I assume glacial height is figured in the second map and not the first (as in, the elevation is gone because the ice is gone) but this is a pretty big oversight for a video of this level of detail.
@@Amartin1947 actually, if carbon dioxide levels rise to what they were in the distant past, during the age of the dinosaurs places like the Sahara would become a savannah once again.
