Have you ever used bare concrete instead of tile. Would the tile and the grout hold up to large herds? (150 or so) It certainly seems easier to clean. Thank you for this video. B
I've noticed you do not use pre or post teat dip on your cows. It is commonly used here. It seems like an over use of chemicals to me. How do you feel about it?
Yeah, we never used it so I dont have any experience with it. Its a good thing, if you have problems with maintaining a healthy udder but if you don’t need it, it’s like you said; one more chemical to add to the costs.
I had my herd dispersal in 2000 and watching your videos helps me get my fix! Great operation and your attention to detail is amazing. Please keep the videos coming this old man looks forward to them. Oh and what breed are the red and whites?
Thanks 🙂 its pretty good, especially for grass work or light tillage, it's not the best for the road, but I still use it for transport anyway 😁 we've had some problems the first two years (blown hydraulic pump gasket, powrReverser malfunction) but were repaired under warranty 😉
Thanks 🙂 Around 7000 l in standard lactation. Main ingredients are hay, grass silage and corn silage but we also add some proteins, like canola and grains for energy. For higher production cows we have some concentrats 😉
@@farmerspov4709 With your average do you think that if your cows were strictly to produce milk, like jerseys for exemple, you would need concentrate? Because they have less need to maintain body weight
Hm, interesting question, I don't know, with smaller frame, they would require less energy for their own maintenance, but, depending on what milking average would you be aiming for, they would still need some concentrate to fullfill their demand with the ability of how much dry matter they can eat 🤔 example: if you would feed them only silage and hay, they would get to, lets say, around 15 l of milk daily average. Even if you would feed them more, they may not be able to eat much more. Then there is also peak performance about 1,5 month after calving when the demand is higher. Thats why you have to have some concentrated energy that they can eat in small amounts and cover their needs 🤔
Yes i agree at peak milking i will probably still need concentrate. At the moment i'm milking holsteins but the cost is extremely high, and for some years now I am thinking of switching to another breed and getting on a diet with very little concentrate, with the prices that we are getting paid i think it's the time.. Let's see what awaits me for the next times
It really is just finding balance between milk yield and feed costs. There are farms with high milk yield but may not be doing so good financially because of all the feed that they have to buy, they are just turning around more money 🤔 I wish you all the best 🙂

Greetings. Each of your videos is done in the best way. I follow every video in detail and I try to see everything and the most detailed details. I think your farm is something ideal that exists. And the mechanization of objects, animals, the way it's all done ... Congratulations. I'm interested in what's next in your plan when it comes to some investments. What is the next step? If there is something related to mechanization (I don't know what you are missing) I would say that you have everything you need. Whether in some facilities, or perhaps an increase in arable land ...
Well thank you, thats kind of you to say 🙂 no big plans at the moment, I rented some new land because I lost some that we were renting many years... I'll probably buy a new slurry tanker and use the old one for water for heifers on pasture. It will be mostly maintenance of everything we have for some time, we'll see about investments... 😀
