Have you heard of a game called Ark Nova? It seems to be very popular & it’s rising up the ranks of BGG VERY quickly. It’s also been compared with Terraforming Mars.
Yes I have. It’s at the top of my list to buy. I’ve watched so many play throughs of it that I even put in my top 100 list this year. It’s currently at 11 for me. While terraforming mars is 13. So as soon as I can afford it and it’s in stock I’ll get it.
@@fightingkitchen7960 yes I do own terraforming mars. I was just stating that like ark nova more than terraforming mars even though I don’t have ark nova yet. Because it’s been compared to terraforming mars. Tom vasel said it was better than terraforming mars too. And it was tom vasels most favorite game this year. I can only assume that when I finally can get my hands on it, that ark nova will go up on my list.
Fun fact: Based on the picture of Sacrifice the people are about to be celebrating Lupercalia (which is the inspiration of our Valentines day which is a pagan holiday). How do I know this? Because they are sacrificing a dog that was only sacrificed on the holiday of Lupercalia.
I bought dominion empires at a board game store in Boise, Idaho. I’m fortunate to have several different board game stores near me. You’ll probably need to see if Amazon has it or not.
Hey, so I have a question on the Rocks card. I thought I understood until i read the rule book. "If it is another player's turn, then it is not your Buy phase, so the Silver goes to your hand." What on earth does this mean??...You cant gain or trash a card on someone else's turn??? I originally thought you gain a silver to hand if you trash a card in your action phase. And gain a silver to your deck when you gain rocks in your buy phase? Its when you gain or trash, so not when you play it...this is very confusing and no one explains this.
You can gain and trash cards on someone else’s turn if a card tells you otherwise, for instance there’s a new event in the new dominion plunder expansion (maelstrom) that when a player spends money on it, it forces your opponents to trash a card from their hand, if an opponent decides to trash rocks from their hand, then they gain a silver to their hand even though it’s not their turn, and it’s obviously not their buy phase either. Look at it this way, you have been gaining cards on another players turn since day one. Think about it when another player plays witch all opponents gain curse cards, well your gaining a card even though it’s not your turn. So if an opponents card says you gain or trash something then yes you can gain cards and trash cards even though it’s not your turn. There are lots of cards that tell you to gain a card even though it’s not your turn. Black cat from dominion menagerie expansion Black cat +2 cards If isn’t your turn, each other player gains a curse. -------------------- When another player gains a victory card, you may play this from your hand. 2$ Action-Attack-Reaction See the reaction tells you to play it from your hand when an opponent gains a victory card, which then allows you to draw 2 cards and then everyone else gets a curse even though it’s not your turn. And if you were to play it as an action on your turn, then you only get to draw 2 cards and that’s it. So if a card forces you to trash rocks when it’s an opponents turn then rocks allows you to gain a silver on your opponents turn. So it has to be a card or event, ect. That allows you to gain or trash cards on your opponents turn. Also think about it this way, you can’t just discard cards because you feel like it, you have to play a card that tells you to discard a card or get attacked by a card that forces you to discard, Or discard your cards at the end of your turn. Hopefully that helps.
@@Animal_board_gamer That helps immensely!! Thank you so much. I haven't seen the other cards that allow these mechanics to gain or trash the rocks card on someone else's turn. So I thought we were playing something very wrong when I read the rules, as its only a brief description to a more situational action(As you've now explained). We have the base game and now Empires. Man, you are a legend! I hate not knowing the rules completely and couldn't find anyone describing how things work on the other players turn. Thank you so so much! Can confidently put it back in the line up...Although I read its difficult to get rocks in a 2 player game.
@@masonstuart-hill4670 yeah you’re welcome. Wow you went straight to empires slipping half a dozen expansions that came before it. So I guess that makes sense why something like that would be confusing. Seaside should have been one the expansions you should of gotten after the base game, since it introduced the duration cards in the first place. Also since trashing was confusing, the dark ages expansion is all about trashing, that would of been helpful too. I’m sure it’s cooler to check out the really cool expansions first. But dominion is like learning to swim. First you learn to swim in the kiddie pool (base game) then in the shallow part of the pool (Seaside, Intrigue, And/or hinterlands) then once your ready you start swimming in the deep end (Guilds and cornucopia, Prosperity, Dark ages, Alchemy) and then your ready to start snorkeling (Adventures, Empires, Renaissance) and then you can try scuba diving (Nocturne, Menagerie, Allies, Plunder). Now I’m not saying you need every expansion, but at least one from each of those groups of expansions before you go for the third group of expansions. For instance for me, my first expansion was hinterlands, then prosperity and then adventures. I personally don’t own all the expansions anyways. My friends own the ones I don’t. (Intrigue, renaissance and Allies) Now with that said hinterlands and Dark ages are expansions with the most synergy. Take a look at my videos is dark ages the best expansion ever, and is hinterlands the best expansion ever.
