      This is the most concerning issue I have behind the protection of Te Tiriti. We can’t turn back environmental damage and destruction of that activity on the Whanau.

  • @Tupunaforever

    Mr Potaka was very professional and restrained, particularly when Moana asked him if he's "mongrel enough", the look on his face said it all, and she kept repeating it, I honestly thought she said "Mongol". @rkara2 in the comments below has an intelligent response.

    Great interview Tama and Moana but once again you have not face what are the true problem with people not going to school or work taking no responsibility blaming others we need to look at ourselves we talk about family but we cannot look after each other this is a Maori problem not the government

    • @avogue7831
      @avogue7831 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The government is responsible for and to its population, we find a safeguard in our constitutional arrangements including Article 3 of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, this is not replaced by iwi, Hapū, or even whānau for example, we don't say superannuitants/Vetrans are no longer productive so their families are responsible for them!.

    • @YourProfessor1974
      @YourProfessor1974 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Under that line of thought, ‘it’s a Māori problem and not a govt problem’. Then should the solution be a Māori solution..? Because there are people who are trying to do that, but whenever they do there’s a push back from society that say it’s giving Māori special treatment… instead of just letting us get on with addressing these ‘Māori problems’. By Māori for Māori

      The maori Party was 'in the tent' during Key's administration - and by the end of that time (- at the 2017 election) maori trashed the maori Party, and moved wholesale back to Labour).

      Tama wants to be in their ‘tent’, where those who think they are superior to Us hold their own echo chamber; however, We the people, not persons, are the supreme power in this land and can have Our own tent [Cf. New Zealand Birth Certificate, BDM107, WARNING and Caution; Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975, s.2; Privacy Act 2020, principle 7, 13; Imperial Law Applications Act 1988, Schedule 1; Senior Courts Act 2016; Reciprocal Enforcement of Judgments Act 1934];

    Another fantastic interview. While I don’t support his coalition in the slightest, I thought Tama came across as sincere. I do fear though that in the near future he will get stuck between towing the party line and listening to the competing views of his wider whanau. As a fellow Māori I genuinely wish him luck.

    16:30 Potaka talks about opportunities for Iwi participation etc. The systems and mechanisms established under the last Labour government were not Labour initiatives. They were Māori-driven initiatives over the past two + decades because successive government policies have failed. They were co-participation and partnership arrangements. This government has completely undermined those efforts and resources and set us right back. We need long term, bipartisan support, not reviews every election that stunt progress.

    The big 'missing' from this interview is what Potaka believes about the Treaty e.g. did Maori cede sovereignty or not? Is the Littlewood draft the final English draft of the Treaty or not? If not, why not? What's his definition of kawanatanga? tino rangatiratanga? Taonga? Why is the waitangi tribunal not using the Maori version of the Treaty as it's authority? An so on. Big question not asked and therefore not answered.

    Mainstream media has moved to American format, more about opinion of the person giving the information rather than decent journalism. I do find a lot of the news depressing. So I seek out specific shows, Q&A, BHN and shows like yours on TH-cam. I don’t mistrust media but think they are serving their sponsors more than the NZ public. If you look at the news 20-30 years ago to now it’s day and night with the way it is delivered. I stopped watching breakfast news probably 10 years ago because if the drivel it became. I have Stuff notifications on my phone so if somethings important I will hear about it. I do want to stay informed. I miss John Campbell having his own show, being able to go in depth into things and really pressing politicians when they give non answers.

    If you want the current governance pattern to change then you have to start with Maori governance and not expect somebody who is serving the pakeha governance to do it for you.
    Moari govern at the hapu level not at the iwi level like the pakeha. If you want Maori to be able to make their own politics then a hapu level type governance system has to be invented.

    You can see the division between these two Maori. One of these two Kiwis has been brainwashed by the European. The other man is a proud sounding Maori.
    If Maori can not unite Aotearoa is lost.

    Thanks Te Ao with Moana for exposing another kupapa, who espouses colonial rhetoric and the presumed authority of the subordinate statutory system; mostly what Tama Potaka said was based on being thoroughly indoctrinated and educated in a western regime, like a poaka caught with his head in the hinaki;

    You can smell what the rock is cooking, especiallly when he says: *Well what I would say to you is* that's exactly what Luxon says a thousand times in an interview. WIWSTYI. he's a politician people, he works for the government and he gets paid by the tax payer, who do you think would win overall. for him to keep getting his pay pkt, he has to be on board with his party and the PM. No matter how you think his words please you, behind closed doors is way more different for what they really mean..

    What document is the foundation of our country? The Maori version or the pakeha version? 540 chiefs signed the Maori version and only 40 chiefs signed the english version of the treaty. The Maori version did not cede sovereignty!!!!

      @@StGammon77 Wrong! The 540 chiefs that signed the Maori version did not cede sovereignty. Maori language and English language are not the same language. Words have different meanings. Try and at least use your imagination please. Thankyou
