Morning ride around Dos Lagos shopping center on my RadCity Step-Thru and recording with my new GoPro Black camera. The bridge across and through the lake is a fun ride.
Rad Power Bike Shop, let's take a look around...

A quick look around the San Diego Rad Power Bike location. They picked a great spot right on the water. I took my RadCity in for the 100 mile tune up so I thought I would get a quick video of the shop. Wife and I took a RadRunner and a RadRunner Plus out for a test ride on the bike trail that runs around the bay, such a great view and amazing weather in San Diego. Enjoy this short tour.

I dropped my RadCity off for the 100 mile tune up at the Rad Power Bike shop in Imperial Beach/San Diego California. Wife and I took a couple RadRunners our on a rest ride to pass the time, great views and amazing San Diego weather. I think she is sold on the Runner Plus which means I get to borrow it!!
Why I chose the RadCity Step Thru vs RadRunner Plus

A brief overview of my new RadCity bike and my experience at the Rad shop in San Diego
I just got them in the houston brown custom build. Zero drop barefoot. They are so comfortable.i have 8 pairs of JG boot now. lol.
Congrats! Eight pairs, wow!
I believe you are supposed to tuck the tung in normally. That channel was just the result of having the piece of lether holding the eyelets being replaceable in case it broke.
That makes sense, thank you for the feedback.
Check out the Jim Green presale. The Numzaan will have tyre soles.
Nice! They have some great new stuff coming out. I saw a standard African Ranger with leather midsole on the presale too. Thanks for watching.
No, leather insole board though
@@j_crust4582 right, just a sock liner
@@j_crust4582 The "tyre sole" model uses "poly woven" lasting board and midsole. It reduced the price by $10.
Good review. So you ordered your brannock size and fit was good?
Yes, I ordered my standard bannock size. Thanks for watching!
I got into a pair of Numzaans in early January when they did the early release. Absolutely love them. Wear them at least 3 days of the week. The veg tan leather holds up extremely well. They're definitely on the heavy side, but don't really notice it on your feet. The new green ones on pre-order are beautiful. And the bronco leather on the AR's...wow! Good to see someone else in SD wearing the Jim Greens.
That Bronco leather looks incredible! Thanks for watching.
I am lucky enough to have two pairs of Baobab boots. Houston Brown, and Houston Charcoal. They are definitely my favorite Jim green boots. They are very versatile, I can wear them business casual to work. hiking, and everything in between.
Nice! I never saw the charcoal for sale
By your experience, how the different leather affects in feel and which leather you recommend as a first boot for daily use?
The fudge is a great daily use boot, it broke in really fast.
Curious, how wide are your feet? I'm an 11 3E and was mistakenly sent a 12 and they were still a bit narrow for me. In Carl Murawski's podcast with Gareth he alludes to a wider baobab/numzaan boot coming out down the line.
My feet are 2E, the Baobabs/Numzaan both fit well after some break in. Those 719 boots they showed on the video version of the podcast, I am in for one for sure!
3 boots with the same build? You really like that style. My first pair of Jim Green boots were African Ranger Barefoot in Natural Veg Tan. I had never heard of Jim Green before this year but I got hooked. I got 2 pairs of Vellies in different leathers next, 1 in smooth tan leather and 1 in chestnut roughout, because they're half the price of the African Ranger boots and sizes were quickly being sold out. After that, I decided to get a custom pair of Shoellies on the barefoot last, which makes them wider than the stock Shoellies. I got them in buffalo leather with olive stitch down thread, just like your custom African Ranger pair. I wore my roughout vellies on a recent trip out of town and did a lot of walking in 90 degree heat sockless with shorts. They did great. My feet didn't hurt.
You have quite the collection going on too!
I have 3 pair, 2 in Buffalo leather and a custom pair. Just got a pair in Buffalo for my cousin's birthday present.
Wow, nice gift for your cousin!!!
@@xplorsocal2222 I hope he gets them before he heads back to Africa next month.
I have several pairs .. the crazy horse is awesome .. as are the buffalo . And one off horween pair
Nice, a Horween pair!
I have barefoot in crazy horse and a recrafted tactical version on the Ranger I had done
I want a pair in green with the frog grip sole.
That would be a great combo, the frog grip sole is nice and the green is a cool color.
I've been wearing the regular brown Rangers for my everyday boots for a year. I switch over to Danner for Winter boots, if it's snowy or below 20 degrees. So excited because I just got the Houston Green Barefoot Rangers, but haven't started wearing them yet. Planning for AR8's or a custom order Summer 2025.
The Houston Green is a great looking color, congrats!
Cool collection!😁 I wanna try the Stockman Chelsea so bad😍
Thanks, the Stockman looks good.
LOVE your custom choices. I really think the Extra midsole makes this boot, And is the toecap different from your old pair?? The new boot toecap almost looks stuctured in comparison to the older pair?? I love your new custom boot, in fact, I like it so much i think i would like to order Exactly what you've order. May i Ask exactly how you ordered or defined the differences and customisations? These boot deserve more attention, and i think your video will have a massive impact on this well deserving company. Look forward to a update in a few months. Thank you.
Thanks, I am really happy with the boot. The toe cap may look different because I had the custom model double lasted so it has three layers of leather at the toe while the off-the shelf boot only has two layers at the toe, plus the off-the shelf boot has been worn more so the toe is losing some of its stiffness as it breaks in. I ordered the boot on the standard JG last, in buffalo leather, it is double lasted, and I selected the leather midsole, and olive threading on the stitch down. Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy your new boots as much as I like mine.
lol I also have my collection, I’ve purchased four so far!
Nice! Which models did you get?
Great boots! I only wished they had a leather insole/lasting board instead of the fiber board. I asked JG this and the price of them would then match the barefoot versions which I totally would not mind at all. You can get them custom made, but the shipping is just brutal at 55 bucks.
Yeah, the extra shipping cost for the customs is a bummer but they do have to ship them from South Africa so I understand it.
@@xplorsocal2222 Yeah, it's understandable in a interview with Carl Murawski he talked a bit about this. Basically South Africa is not in a good place atm and their postal service has basically collapsed, so they rely on private companies like DHL to ship custom boots.

I have a Razorback with steel toe. Heavy. Which is what you expect with steel toe. I would consider Numzaan next. Your 2nd pair, the brown, need oil and polish.
The Numzaan is a great boot! Thanks for the tip, I’ll get some oil on the brown ones.
Very informative, you definitely have the Jim Green addiction ! I just have the African Ranger in Fudge and The Vellie, absolutely love the Vellies in Khaki rough out for summer, my fave. loving your vids
Yeah, I’m hooked, I’ll have to check out some Vellies. Thanks for watching.
Their vellies are the best - my first JG boot was a brown Vellie I wore for work, wore them down good, and ended up getting a bunch of other styles, the AR, AR barefoot, and even got some shoelies in houston black for a more formal work pair.
Id like to rub exceement on your shoes.
could you tell me the difference in weight between leather and composite midsole boot? thanks
The custom with leather midsole boot is about 1.1lbs heavier than the RTW.
Try the barefoot
I am thinking about the Veg Tan Barefoots, but maybe a custom rough out would be cool too.
I had to get the custom boots to get the barefoot in buffalo hide. I think the barefoot buffaloes may become a standard offering like the conventional Rangers in buffalo.
Do you have them? Deciding between both. How can you describe the difference?
Nice! Sounds like you are sold on Jim Greene and have a small collection now.
I am, they are an unbeatable value.
Just ordered some custom AR8s with leather midsoles and bottom along with a leather loop! My new hiking boots as all the others are waterproof which means they don’t breathe. I will say I bought some Drews Boots and the wait was 6 months with no custom build! Can’t wait!
Congrats!
I’m just about to pull the trigger on this exact same boot in the Fudge leather. Since it is double lasted, is the lasting board also leather, or is it the polyester woven board? Did you specify either one or the other?
It didn’t give me an option but looking at mine it appears to be all leather construction through the sole, except the resin runner of course
@@xplorsocal2222 Awesome, thanks for the reply!
The grain character on the RTW African Rangers looks awesome! Great looking boots you got there
Thank you for watching!
Enjoyed all your JG videos. I have the buffalo hide Rangers as well and love them. I suggest to try a pair of there barefoot boots. Have a pair in the veg tan leather. Love them. So comfort. I just placed a custom. Getting the Numzaan boot made to the zero drop last. Can’t wait to get them. On these I got them in the Houston Brown. They will be double last leather as well with a leather mid sole and leather lasting board.
Thank you for watching! I have never worn a barefoot shoe but I am open to trying them.
Good overview sir. Did you get this with the toe puff and shank?
Thank you. Yes, they have the toe puff and shank
the round toecap is so elegant! i wonder why others not do that. Jim Green is top, quality and design as well, and that with a good price!
No doubt, Jim Green gives you the most for the money!
Just got my custom barefoot rangers in buffalo.
Nice, congrats!
Awesome custom boots, they look very comfortable!
Thanks! They are very comfortable.
I have several pairs of Jim Greens. I just did a custom order. About how long did it take to receive them? This custom is a barefoot boot. They make awesome. Boots. And great folks to talk to.
They are cool people for sure, always very helpful. Mine took about thirty days.
JG says 45 days. My buffalo barefoots came in about 30 days. I think they had a batch in the works and I just happened to order them at the right time.
Hey nice video, nice boot too
Thanks, I’m enjoying them.
An epic custom spec that is primed and ready for adventure! Thank you for your support and we wish you the best on the adventures to come 💪🥾🐸
Thanks so much for watching my video. Keep up the great work!!
Glad this video hit us, thanks for the support and feedback, the buffalo leather will age great with time. Working on our custom process and service so gradually getting there.
Wow, thank you for watching my video! The custom boot tool is a great addition to the website.
I have these same boots (Afrique/Tyre sole). They are my favorite! I regret putting Hubert’s shoe grease on them to waterproof them and also I regret wearing them to work because it darkened the color and at work I wet them. They still look great but have some scuffs and patina now. I stopped wearing them for work and now I wear them for yard work.
I’m really happy with mine too!
@@xplorsocal2222 I tried buying another pair but had no luck finding any used ones on eBay
That custom boot is totally awesome really like the sole you put on it alot.
Thanks man! I appreciate you watching the video.
That’s really neat that they use leather from local wild animals.
Yeah, they are an interesting company.
Nice boots!! I ordered my AR8'S as steel toe in November and im loving them. Like you theres a few things i am thinking i would have liked to change. Not that they are bad just a personal choice. Like an extra speed hook 🤷♂️ and leather mid-sole. I figure this way its an excuse to order more lol. How do you like the tire sole?
Thank you! The tire sole is nice, not as hard underfoot as I thought it would be but my wife isn’t a fan because it leaves black streaks on some of our flooring 🤣
Hi, thank you! Any recommendations on what product to use to shine them?
Depends on your use case. I wax mine up, but then I deal with rain quite a bit. Any balm or conditioner works really; Jim Green recommends Smith's Leather Balm if I'm not mistaken. Just hitting them up with a horsehair brush on the reg does the most for shine I find. Will get better with age. I'm curious to see how the buffalo patinas over time as I haven't seen many pictures of them besides when new.
Very nice! Hi from South Africa :) The wildebeest leather looks very nice shined up! fantastic stuff.
My bike's coming within a couple days it's October 24th I can't wait I'm going to have such a great time the Red Rover six yeah
With my bikes I would like to accessories to come with it and add on to the price like the mirrors side mirrors for my handlebars extra battery the triangle battery I would like to have that the 20 to get more mileage I'd like to have also The Rock in the back with caring sack
It looks like a test ride along that path will sell Rad Power bike by itself. Soladaddy, that was my thinking when I purchased my wife a RadCity Step-Thru today, and just in case she or I ever run out of battery juice and don't invest the add'l $550 for a spare battery.
Thanks for your feedback in your video. I just bought my wife a RadCity Step-Thru 3 today in white and who knows, maybe I'll buy myself one at some point in time. 🙂 So, I've been hearing that at pedal assist level #1 you can expected to get up to or even over 40 miles per charge, if you're not doing a lot of hill climbing that is. What has been your experience with miles per charge so far? Thanks for your feedback!
Thinking about one of those two bikes for my wife. I like the concept of the plus, but the ease of peddling a traditional bike draws me back to the Radcity.
I just bought a used Rad City with an orange bottle cage. PS, just realized my bottle cage isn't from RAD.
Just realized my orange bottle cage isn't RAD😄
You chose it because you were stupid.
why is he afraid to show his face????
My first time making a video so wasn’t very good at framing, checkout the other one with the accessory box and you see my old mug.
Always a critic LOL
I’m 500 miles from San Diego. But it would almost be worth the trip. I’m torn between the radcity step thru and the rad runner plus. It would be nice to try before I buy.
Those were the two I was looking at too, I went with the city step thru.
