It is truly a gift for the laity to take up the re-search on the life of the early Christians. especially the Holy Fathers .... Many upheavals that occurred in those times can be analysed to see the satanic forces undermining the the Kingdom of God mystically established by our Lord Jesus. The origins of Islam, the interaction with the Jewish people, with other major religions, the influence of policies intertwined by the political aspirations, when scrutinized closely we find Truth exposed .. Lord Jesus reigns in our hearts. That was his will . Halleluia

Great video, though some counterbalance with perspectives of other philosophers, would be nice. Essentialism is hardly subscribed to by any philosophers these days, after Wittgenstein's brilliant family resemblance theory for example. You don't need to go in depth, just go "oh hey, but this important guy disagrees, learn more about him if you're interested." Hell, you could even mention Hume if you wanted a more radical view, who argues the world doesn't come 'pre-carved' into things at all - we do the carving. Or why not mention Russel, who famously declared existence is not a predicate, not a property to assign to things at all? All very relevant views that weren't touched on or hinted at. Someone watching this video with no knowledge on the topic will come away with a very scewed perspective.

Thank you very much what you have said and discussed. I have just realised how much of western society is based on the descions theologians made in the 5th Century. If the ideas of free will and no original sin had been accepted. Schools and education would see, teach, realise and encourage the potential in people!

I am reading a book called Mani, the Angel, and the Column of Glory by Andrew Welburn. The evil god is Ahriman, the Devil, Satan, according to Mani. Mani was a poet and his religion is interesting with ships of light, gardens of light, Kings of Light, and a Prince of Darkness who gets bound and thrown in a pit.

Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and testifies: Origen was correct MOST of the time, including on many issues that orthodox Christianity (and this video) lists as "heretical." Scripture supports those correct ideas, such as the pre-existence of the Soul. (See Jeremiah 1:5, and there are plenty of other places.) But orthodox Christianity has lost so much understanding that it doesn't even teach the true "Gospel" (GOOD NEWS) of Jesus Christ! (Paul called his incorrect version, which Christianity adopted, "my gospel.") So, my job is cut-out for me. EVERYONE'S job is cut out for them, for ALL IS FATED. "Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered." - JC Want to know more? This is a "stiff-necked" Age, so I doubt it! But all mysteries have been unveiled in these "end times": the end of the old Cycle of Time that the New Cycle may be born. And if you seek you shall find...

Wrong. Form in Aristotle is the same as form in Plato. Form is not shape and prime matter is not a kind of matter, but the receptable of forms; if you can perceive some kind of matter in any way then it's already not prime matter, but matter, as prime matter has no physical atributes in regards to perception or even to location.

JUSTIN, was made a 'bishop' after only two years of conversion, having spent most of his life as a trained philosopher! Did he abandon his worldy ideas for thr 'Good new about the Christ'? Just read this from Google; Further, he also indicates, as St. Augustine would later, regarding the "true religion" that predated Christianity,[5] that the "seeds of Christianity" (manifestations of the Logos acting in history) actually predated Christ's incarnation. This notion allows him to claim many historical Greek philosophers (including Socrates and Plato), in whose works he was well studied, as unknowing Christians. Please read Col 2:8 regarding philosphy!

The reason why the Eastern Church never saw the big issue is because the Orthodox have a totally different interpretation of Original Sin. The West altered this perception with focusing solely on St. Augustine's exigesis of Romans 5. He admits that his Greek was limited and had very little contact with the original Greek patristic tradition. As a scholar you could explore this distinction.

Why do those claiming to be 'Christian' put so much faith in the teachings of any of the 'church Fathers'? Did not Jesus teach his 12 apostles the true gospel? Did not the Holy Spirit "Bring what I have taught you back to your minds"? So that the apostles could in turn pass that truth on to us? Did not Jesus half brother Jude write in (around 55 AD, years BEFORE th church fathers!) "The FAITH was delivered ONCE FOR ALL TIMES TO THE HOLY ONES" (Jude 3) The NT often warned of the teachings of those that followed that would corrupt the truth! ( Acts 20:28-30 ) Most 'church fathers' were not humble men like the apostles but educated philosophers!

We honor and trust the church fathers, for they have done a magnificent work as teachers of the faith. Their work includes interprating Scripture, spreading the gospel and defending Christianity from the enemies of the faith.

Look at the images at 1:00 and 3:20. The former showing triplets and the latter showing an old man, a bird, and a younger man. Can anyone tell me where these "extra" images of God are spoken of in the Bible? Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is the "express image" of God's "person." It only mentions a single image. So why the extra stuff?

Is this the same Ignatius who wrote against the gnostics or a different one. I believe those writings were extensive. Also is this the same Ignatius who said Jesus' ministry lasted 20+ years and who said there should be 4 gospels because there are 4 corners of the earth?

  • @Bob_Oxnard-sp1gr

Reading through the comments, it’s truly amazing how shallow people think about things. Not sure where to start. Far too many Protestants appear to have almost no understanding of how the Bible was put together (the Catholic Church). Many people don’t seem to have any understanding of the early church, with some imagining that it was Christian and not Catholic, which is ludicrous. Just read the the original documents yourself of the fathers covered in these amazing videos. You can’t read them and still think the early church wasn’t Catholic. You are not going to find sola scriptura or sola fide. You will find, especially in the Justin Martyr first apology, that the early church would have considered sola fide an abominable heresy. Read it for yourself. Protestantism was invented in the fifteenth century based on the imaginations of men (Luther and Calvin).

Dr. Italy, this dying/suffering for the church (God's people) is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord in His earthly estate. Then in the apostle Paul and according to St. Ignatius. However, I want to l;earn more about what this can mean in practical terms. In other words, when I am not inclined to suffer with my dear Christian friends and bear their burdens (So to, fulfill the law of Christ as in the epistle of Galatians) I am not obeying the Lord? What I mean is, I have a friend who lost his wife, but she suffered great physical infirmities for a protracted time period. My wife and I prayed for her recovery and tried to encourage this fellow that God's will on healing is not that clear cut (Nevertheless, we prayed for her recovery). She died, and he is grieving so, that it breaks my heart. I would send him short scripture verses and quotes of great saints, before and after she passed to encourage him. However, I lost a grandson who was killed by a hit and run driver and was overwhelmed myself. I did not send my dear friend any word of encouragement for a whole week. Is any of this putting of my friend's pain and hurt first the type of thing that you mentioned about the sufferings of Christ. Why, because even though I lost my grandson (24 years old) I felt that I let my friend down by not keeping up with consoling him. To do so amidst the suffering, which I experienced, it would be no excuse to neglect this ministry. In fact, it seems it would have been more Christ like since it was a real difficult thing to do under what I was experiencing. I want to get this straight so I carry my cross better the next time a real sacrifice comes up. I don't even know if you are still available since this video was done so long ago. (It was a wonderful video.).

Being is not an genus because there is nothing outside being. Alright got it. I'll try to remember that. It's not a difference either because if it were a difference like "rational" for man it would have to be absent in that from which it is different( as rational is absent in irrational animals such as the ant) but this is ofcourse is impossible.
