Octothorpe Redesign Series EP. 5: Prototypes V9 through V11
Episode 5 of our Redesign Series for the 2025 Octothorpe!
Stay tuned for the for a comparison video of the original Octothorpe vs this new design as well as a final Product video for the 2025 Octothorpe.
Though the Octothorpe has undergone a couple redesigns and many small tweaks over the last decade, it has gone relatively unchanged for the last 5 years. However, the way people use a disc golf bag, as well as Pound’s design capabilities have evolved over that time. Our goal with the new Octo was simple: update the design to better suit the needs of the modern disc golfer.

    The pain of having just bought an Octo in 2024 and then seeing this series begin and seeing how cool the redesigns have been, cannot be overstated! Love my bag, literally told my wife “this is the last bag I will ever need” as a way of justifying the cost of a custom to her, and I truly believed it until these videos started coming out. I so wish I could get the new one.

      As the Owner/Designer, that is honestly the hardest thing for me and I really struggle with disappointing people because I truly care about our customers. However, we do our best to make things backwards compatible, like the Caddy, and we don't want to stop innovating, so it's unfortunately unavoidable. Thank you for your support! All the new updates are fantastic (especially the increased structure of the disc tray and side pocket insert), except for the Rufus-style putter pocket. • @PoundDiscGolf

    I have greatly increased the stability of my Rufus by folding two microfiber towels into "tubes" and putting them at the very front and the very rear of the main disc storage. This cradles the discs into the pocket so they cant rock back and forth (because they are circular). The discs being held more stable keeps the bag upright, and the towels are soft, so they dont dig into your back at all, if anything they provide padding. An integrated tube of foam built into the bag could accomplish the same thing.

    Speaking from the experience I've had with my current bag (Prodigy BP1-V3), I would hope they either go with bumpers or rails instead of a full insert in the bottom. My bag has a plastic plate in the bottom and it bruised my lower back/tailbone after the first couple rounds. I got used to it after that, but had I paid full price for that bag I'd have been pissed. BP1-V3s retail for like $240 (nowhwere close to a pound), but I got it on Whatnot for like $50. I'm glad they're testing each modification.

    My DD bag has a structured bottom that I don’t notice. Not sure how they went about it but it’s a taller bag that is still super stable. I’ve never had it fall over on the course. So it’s possible. I also think you need a spot for an umbrella and (not or) a retriever. You need both. Also some bungees or some other way to carrying a stool would be nice. If you nail those things you will probably be my next bag when my current bag is ready for retirement.

    Love the new strap system as well. When it comes to my V2 vs my V3, I like my v2's straps all day every day. The v3 just doesn't feel right and the snaps are.. fussy. Also, something to think about with the top putter pocket. The older versions accept superclass discs. People still throw the condor and the zephyr. I usually throw my bunker busters up in the top pocket when I throw them because they don't fit in the bottom. Side to side in the putter pocket is quite okay to have. Especially for those who still bag the superclass stuff regularly or on occasions.

    • @levibuckingham1566

    I don't think the bumper to keep the discs forward is really a big deal and necessary with how these bags run. I"ve never thought to myself using my pound bags that my discs needed to push towards the opening of the pocket. Half the time I'm shoving someone elses disc or a lost and found disc right there in front of my discs anyways. or a putter that might need to be cleaned before i put it back in the top to keep it from dropping water/dirt/crap on everything.

    • @levibuckingham1566
      @levibuckingham1566 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      with the additional 1.5" we added to the depth of the bag to make it more stable (and therefore added to the main compartment as well), it was definitely necessary to add the bumper because the discs were very sloppy front to back.

    Could you shorten the front to back width of the foam? I think doing this would still provide increased structure, but not actually come into contact with the wearer's back. If it could be stitched into place, that would ensure the shortened foam doesn't eventually slide forward until it makes contact with the person. Loving the new Octothorpe and appreciate Pound's hard work!

    • @levibuckingham1566
