Bird was completely broken down at this point and could really only catch & shoot. Still matched evenly vs Pippen & Jordan. If you catch pre 88 games Bird could put it on the floor & dunk. One thing I like to point out is how Bird positioned himself for rebounds or help defense. Wish we could go back to hand checking. It’d force better ball handling.

Work on the low post footwork, it will allow you to play effectively late in your life. I am almost 50 and destroying dudes 15-20 years younger in the paint. I have lost my speed and vertical but the footwork is still there and it will ever be.

People have the wrong metric for who is the greatest of all time. That should be measured on who is the best all-around player to ever do it. Bird was not the greatest shooter, he was just one of the greatest shooters. He wasn’t the greatest rebounder, he was just one of the greatest rebounders ever. He wasn’t the greatest passer, he was just top-five all time. Bird wasn’t the greatest defender, but he is easily one of the greatest off the ball, help defenders in NBA history. My point obviously is that Bird excelled in every single category that is considered important in basketball, whereas Jordan, Bill Russell, etc., etc. specialized in one particular area of the game while being decent at the other parts. I think that puts Bird squarely as the greatest of all time, despite the fact that his prime lasted a shorter time than Jordans because of the inexorable succession of debilitating injuries. By the way, Bird was white. He played the way white people play (with ridiculous attention to fundamentals). Don’t get it mixed up.

These trash stories are the reason many players suddenly got the Bird flu when bird came to town …

Grew up in the 80’s and huge Laker fan. I hated Bird. However the big 3 of Magic, Kareem and Worthy were better than the big 3 of the Celtics Bird, Mchale and Parish so not a good comparison. Frankly if I was drafting today I think I’d take Bird first. Maybe the best 4th quarter finisher except Jordan of all time.

Definitely watch the 60 point game!! Also..
