Oh okay. This is a very unique alarm and I wonder how many more exist. I also said my guess is this is from 1975. It might even be older. Oh yeah and as I my famous line goes "that'll wake you up". This thing might be small but is is very loud in person,

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n Oh ok I will have to look at his videos if I made one of it. As far I as I know that other one is still available if you are interested. I hope it is in good shape, I would eventually like to get the other bulb working as I think I figured out how to get that cover off. The problem I am worried about is cracking it.

@ I’m pretty sure the lens has a slot in it to replace the bulbs. Nathaniel had the same problem and he found out it was because the one bulb wasn’t fully installed.

Cool what year is yours from? Mine is from 1978 although I thought at first it was much earlier about 1976 or 1977. Mine has a lower squeal but still very loud. And since this video was made I have test spray. An easier and safer way to test them. This one is very sensitive as you can tell as it sounded instantly.

@@mikemabe4942 thanks. That middle piece is a heat sensor on the Vulcan Autosonic heat detectors (Autosonic Mk 30 A and Mk 60). But just q decorative piece in the smoke detectors. I guess they wanted them to compliment each other. This is definitely a cool detector and the fact that is actually has a squealer horn is even cool. Thanks my birthday was almost 4 months ago but this was a cool gift to myself. 😀👍

Well dang I’m wrong again but that’s alright by the way I’m not gonna say where on ebay it’s listed cause I don’t want no one snagging it from me cause I’m hunting it and I’m gonna bid on it but their is another one listed on ebay brand new but I imagen how rare this is this thing is gonna get snatched up just like that their is only one listed so I hope to heaven that I can get it.

Ahh yep very loud and again without ear plugs. Yet I still managed to hear myself think after that was done. I also warned my neighbour upstairs before hand. She thinks it is a very cool hobby. It was also done during the day. Not a midnight. I wished I could have set all of them off but that was enough. Like my famous saying goes "That'll wake you up!!".

And the 2025 noisemaker will be even louder as my collection has grown alot since then. I am still waiting on one cool alarm that is on hold because of this darn Canada Post strike. They always decide to pick the holiday season and it sucks and that is putting it in mild terms!!!

Wow now that is interesting. I have also seen the Jameson versions. 1986 was a good year for these detectors. I don't know much about the square M1 unit.

@@janeaton3417 The square M1 unit was also labeled as the React RS-1, along with the original FX830 judging from selling that might've been at random.

That must have been years ago. I don't remember them having DC squealer horns but I do remember back in the very early 1980's at my Aunt's apartment building when the door was open to let us in it sounding like a loud AC buzzer.

I grew up in a home with a Sears 350.57045 a Dicon 200 (the source of my childhood nightmares) and a Westclox Smoke Signal (I also have both a Sears 350.57045 and a Westclox Smoke Signal (although it says Westclox Smoke Alarm on the cover) in my collection. I'm still on the hunt for the very elusive but not extinct Dicon 200. The SA76RS was the most sensitive but the Guardion FB 1A was definitely the loudest when I rewatched the video. I am surprised I could still hear myself think after making this video too!!! :)

My grandparents in Edmonton had 2 of those Dicon 200s and the squeal they made was the worst ever but likely the best detectors of their time as they had both the 9 volt battery, flashing led light and a test button. I’ll tell you a secret; check out some of the local Urbex channels on here based in Canada and you’ll spot a number of Dicon 200’s in the abandoned houses they explore. In particular check out/; Noah Nowhere and Ethan Minnie (both based in Ontario) and you’ll see some hidden gems in there. 😊It’s pretty cool.

@@mikeross880 Oh yes those Dicon 200's had an awful squeal worse than the Sears that when they went off you didn't dare stick around like I said those were part of my 5 year old childhood nightmare and I am 51 now. They were definitely cool detectors too and there apparently was a more rare one without a flashing LED. That could have been an earlier model and these detectors were only sold in Canada. I don't believe one ever existed in the US. Thanks so much I have subscribed to those channels I haven't come across I Dicon 200 yet but I will be excited when I do. There are lots of videos there that is for sure. These detectors are so rare now that they are impossible to find on Ebay. I have searched as I want one so bad for my collection. I actually had the opporatunity to take the Dicon 200 that was in our front hall that my Dad replaced around 1997 but it sadly got pitched and I was still not quite fond of them as I am now. Also of course TH-cam wasn't even thought of yet and I hadn't got the Internet until 1998 which back then is nothing like it is now. My childhood fear has basically tuned into my adult hobby. My collection has alot of and neat and rare mostly squealer units. I guess abandoned houses are basically the only way to find these gems nowadays. Oster also rebranded this same unit model 157 0BA but it was a square shaped unit instead of round like the Dicon 200 It had the same test button and flashing LED and used a 9 volt battery. The Dicon 200's were basically everywhere in Ontario between 1976 and 1979. My Aunt on my Mom's side of the family and my Uncle on my Dad's side of the family both had them in their houses plus about 6 neighbours of mine at the time. Definitely cool smoke detectors of the day!!! And the holiest of my holy grail smoke detectors. :) :)

@@mikeross880 I just did and you are right the least sensitive of the 4 of them. I will be posting the video shortly. These sensitivity tests are interesting the SA76RS definitely the most sensitive in his video.

That I will definitely do but it will have to be tomorrow as I don't want to disturb my neighbour upstairs. My SA76RS is also sensitive as is so this shall be interesting and I will make a small video when I do this!!!

I made a video not long ago with test spray. The SA76RS definitely wins. Give it a look and let me know what you think. :)

@@janeaton3417 Wait, were TC49Bs out during Honeywell's 13.4 days? I know they're the AC/DC variant of the TC49A but I thought they were only out during the 4.4 days.

I take it you are not a collector..........that is ok we are all entitled to our opinions. I am a collector and as someone who grew up in the "squealer" era I think this is a cool alarm. What is around today I wouldn't trust if it bit me!!! Safe to say I am using this as a collectors piece only.

Yep it looks very much like a doorbell. I actually mentioned that in the video. I like the look of it. You are right it does sound like an Edwards horn. But it is a Kobishi. It also reminds me of my Malgard model 1101 FM gas alarm which does have an Edwards horn. This also sounds like the old Honeywell TC49A. I am glad I got one of these. I hope the other 6 units get sold and hopefully to collectors.

Oh wow. It is always nice when we can get rare detectors in our collections. I think those Firex's are neat. And as I mentioned that cover designed seemed to have been around for sometime as well.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n Yep and I like getting really rare alarms. My collection has several of those heat and burglar alarm combinations from the 1950' and 1960's. I also never grew up with them but I think they are definitely cool and unique pieces.

Yes it came off but unfortunately the test lever came out and I was unable to reattach it back. But the cover went back on and this alarm does work. I got a plug put on this a few years later at a workshop and this does a low loud 60 HZ buzz.. I can test it with smoke spray. There is no battery back up on this but there is a 9 volt version (model TR77) I am still after. I still kept the test lever.

@@janeaton3417 I have heard about the test lever and also have heard Tellus Instruments of Toronto had this model too.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n yep the lever is attached to a metal wire which was almost impossible for me to reattach. I tried a few times but I gave up but still kept the wire and lever with the original box and I have also learned about Tellus Instruments who also made this same detector. There was someone else here who made a video on this model as it was in their house when they moved there. The 9 volt model is even more rare to find. And that version if I'm correct was featured in a 1980 episode of The Littlest Hobo titled Guinea Pig. That one supposedly has an incandescent bulb that goes off when the alarm sounds. It was high pitched. And since that was 1980 I'm guessing that's the original sound of the detector. This version the TR88 has no bulb or light but it does have a steady red Led that goes on when powered up. And for it being smaller don't be fooled it's loud. These units as far as I know were made and only sold in Canada.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n That is what I am guessing as well. I guess that episode is still posted. So it gives an idea of the timeline of these detectors, although I don't know if they were as early as 1977, My great aunt had one of these in her house around 1980 and my guess it was the TR77 as it didn't have a steady red LED. The ones on the TR77 flashed every 60 seconds indicating there was power. However if you look very closely you can see what appears to be a wire going to the detector in this episode so this is where I get confused. But in reality that is not the TR88.

That I am not quite sure but from what I got out of this test it is a very good yes. These things as I have noticed will sound for sometime,

@@janeaton3417 Well there we go I guess. Since this model is also known as the POC-76B, and the wired one was the POC-76A, there were two others out during that time that do not include an AC/DC model: POC-76BL - Battery powered with LED POC-76M - Hardwired interconnectable.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n My parents had this unit in their old house in the laundry room and my Dad for some reason brought only that unit to our other house we moved into in 1981. It was also in the laundry room and remained there until the mid 1990's. This unit sat on a shelf in the crawl space for quite sometime after before being pitched however I clearly remember it saying Westclox Smoke Signal on the cover and had the same PCB board and insides but somehow I seem to remember it taking a 9 volt battery. It sounded exactly like this. There is a video of a Westclox smoke signal that runs on a 9 volt with a much different PCB board and insides and does a pulsing squealer horn. I have the travel version (Westclox Portable Smoke Alarm that came with a purple travel bag that has the same pulsing tone as well as the horn and sensor. and has a test switch) As well I have the brown travel Westclox Smoke Signal alarm (it says it on the cover) that has a shrunken down version of the upside down sensor and horn but runs on a 9 volt battery and has a quieter but continuous squealer horn and all units are from 1978.

@@janeaton3417 The 9-volt model was the POC-78B. I know there also was an unknown model with a test button (maybe POC-79B or something), and then there was the 83083 in the SA76RS-esque casing.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n Oh ok so there was a 9 volt model then with that same PCB however it had Westclox smoke signal in raised lettering on the cover??? This is what I wasn't sure of. And yes there is a collector who has the rare and maybe only 83083 ins the SA76RS style casing. (NLind) The Westclox my parents had lacked a test button but I have seen pictures online of the one that had one. 1978 must have been a big year for Westclox smoke alarms.

Thank you, that was one of the very first pieces in my collection. I got that at a local second hand shop (no longer around it closed during the first wave of COVID sadly) and it was the same place I also got my Nortron TR88. It is a pretty loud bell as well. I still have it hanging in the same spot right outside my bedroom. :) ::)

Thanks, the horns on these detectors often wear out over time too. So if these still work that is really good. These are definitely hit and miss. I have several in my collection as I mentioned and I have been able to get some of them to work. I have 2 Merlites that unfortunately I can't get to work as the horns on worn out. I have tested this one since with a hair dryer and it works great.....actually better than great with this alarm as it works too well!! I was impressed!!! A hair dryer is basically a way of knowing if they work or not. Definitely a rare and cool piece and collector worthy.

Oh okay for now It will be in my collection but I would rather this go to someone who will take care of it. One thing I can't stand are people who get these with no intentions of taking care of them, I also just recently got a very rare Firex model FX - 830 with the white test button and it has a piezo horn. It is from 1985 to 1988. A friend of mine was dismantling a motor home that was about 40 years old and it was on the ceiling. It does have an issue where it won't work via the test button but my friend might be able to fix it when he comes over next. Good news is that it works perfectly with test spray some I am happy. I just uploaded a recent video if you would like to see it. Now I have two Firex's in my collection

I can say this is the also the most rare smoke alarm I have ever come across and I wonder how many others are still out there. I can say I have never in my life seen one you test with your breath either.

@@Vintagesmokealarmsmedia Yep it is but still older than me by 2 years. LOL!!! and it is just over 6 inches in diameter so it is a fairly bigger bell and as mentioned heavier too!

Same here they remind me of doorbell chimes. I love the buzz of the 941. A sound like that nobody could ignore. I would love to eventually get the 929. As I like the higher pitched squealer sound. I need to get a pair of alligator clips. The price to get a 12.6 v battery would probably cost more than the detector.
