    You can add Brooks Brothers to the list of brands that are luxury in name only. The brand’s former owner, Claudio del Vecchio, brought the brand back to and surpassing any predecessor with superior fabrics and construction. The current owner has cheapened the product to the point where, aside from the store’s atmosphere and some styling, the clothes resemble Old Navy product. I could show you pictures that easily demonstrate the point. So sad.

    Handmade garments are for the extraordinarily wealthy. The rest is just Read-to-wear. Look for quality- do the plaids and stripes match at the seam? Is the fabric made of natural fibers? Manufacturers have these huge cutting machines. The higher quality brands only cut a few pieces at a time. Most cut 50 - 100. If the fabric is on the bottom, the cut won’t be “true.” You do pay for higher quality because it costs more to make a garment. If you want high quality leather, look for the marking that says “ genuine leather.” That doesn’t just mean that it’s real leather. It means that it is the top layer of the hide - the best quality. You are better off paying a dressmaker or tailor to custom make your clothes. Or learn to sew.

      Yes it's probably AI-generated. It also completely misses the obvious reality that not all wealthy people are interested in blending in all of the time they do it by choice. Many have a flamboyant side just their personal style. Not everyone wants to be bland. They will have a staple wardrobe of classics and then have more exciting pieces. They're not all drones.

    Look at how you deceptively used a celebrity to promote your TH-cam; And you’re talking about fake advertising?. This is no secret. Luxury is made for those who can afford. There’s a certain satisfaction and status symbol they get from it. They know what they want and do not rely on marketing. Social media has distorted this and I’m surprised you did mention the role of social media and influencers. Many ordinary families work for these brands and earn their living, these kinds of commentary will ruin their livelihood. The people who buy will not get swayed by you.

    A better way to look at it perhaps……🇬🇧 King Charles as an example of wealth. Look at his clothes, the ‘brands’ he has always worn….his tailors…..shoe makers…shirt makers, umbrella makers…et cetera. They all do bespoke and ready to wear, open for you all. The prices are roughly the same, sometimes cheaper than so called designer brands. That’s real old money wealth….. Think about it.

    I would add Loewe to this list. This, along with Toteme and Ralph Lauren are probably my favorites. Unfortunately, RL is using a lot of synthetic fibers these days, which really reduces the quality. I got rid of my last RL “leather” belt because it had a thick layer of plastic bonded to the back of the leather. It was stiff, thick, heavy and felt icky. Why didn’t they mention this in the description? I wouldn’t have bought it if I had known. I don’t like The Row, all those black, huge, baggy clothes. Also, I must be the only woman who doesn’t want a Max Mara Teddy coat! Their other, look coats are nice, though.

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962

    Those designer outlet stores carry mostly (about 90%) made-for-the-outlet versions of their items in much lower quality. The remaining items are those regular items that are so ugly or weird that no one would buy them full-price, so they have to be deeply discounted. I’d be really careful shopping at those, most of their offerings are very cheaply made, “leather goods” might be plastic and “silk” items made in “silky” polyester. Of course, for those who just want a logo, they’re ok I suppose.

    • @French-Kiss24
      @French-Kiss24 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s not designer,but Chico’s makes clothing for their outlet stores that are nearly the same quality as their regular stores. I worked in both. I actually prefer the outlet because it’s less “high fashion” and trendy and more for normal people.

    • @lucialamprey2690
      @lucialamprey2690 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, this is so true. The same for online discount sites. You get a deep discount on brand names but the brand is selling their own cheaply made knockoffs.

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962
    @kimberlyperrotis8962 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I only buy the highest-quality items, in natural-fiber fabrics and materials like genuine leather, for my wardrobe. But, I rarely need to pay designer prices to get them. Quality does have a ceiling; a beautifully-made, fully-fashioned*, high-quality cashmere sweater, for example, can be obtained at many brands for less than $400. But, buying a brand like Loro Piano or Bruno Cucinelli at ten times that price just doesn’t give ten times the quality. The extra money is for the status, snob appeal, which doesn’t interest me. (*knitted together seams, not cut and sewn ones, a mark of high-quality). Designers are even using those dirt-cheap synthetic fabrics like polyester now, which I won’t even buy at H&M prices.

      Brands have become so greedy these days. Atleast in the past, 'luxury' was reflected in the quality of the items. That's the reason we paid more for that artistry (and they still made huge profits back then!) Now, they're just selling their logo on trash materials and trash finishes and making 3-5x more than before; all at our expense.

    there are more than a few old money types who do the exact opposite of all of this. TLDR: Be nice and treat people with respect. Say please and thank you. But quality things with simple clean lines. But showing princess Diana as if she's new money wearing what was and still is classic fashion was something (white outfit with a blazer). She is old old old money. Its hard to find older money without heading to the royal family in GB.

    I’ve never seen Meghan Markle in a good outfit, not even on her wedding day! She is the worst-dressed woman in the public eye today, she’s completely clueless about what looks good on her and only cares about designer labels and the highest possible prices. I know women who are 100 times more chic who only can afford to shop at fast-fashion! Status dressing is not the same thing as style.

    I was a young career professional in the 80s, and the styles were far from flashy excess. It wasn’t all huge shoulders and neon colors, the styles were essentially classic and tailored, and in much better quality than what’s available today. Those who didn’t live in these decades always focus on the most extreme period style images on the Internet, but those don’t reflect what we actually wore everyday.

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962

    I’ve always loved the Quiet Luxury Style, although it wasn’t called that until very recently, we just called it Good Taste in my youth. High-quality, simple, classic pieces are timeless, or as close as we can get in fashion. This elegant style never really “goes out”, it’s just that designers and brands push us to buy loud or goofy trends that we don’t need, especially in cheap synthetic fabrics to push their profits up. This year’s trends for example, the sheers, lace or mesh fabrics are all 100% polyester, so I’ll pass! I only wear natural-fiber fabrics and materials, like genuine leather, in classic, elegant styles, so they look good for decades.
