I'm retired and often have time on my hands to contemplate. Here's something to ponder: In the post Victorian days and after WW2, old money began to walk among the new money. But in those days, old money was exemplified by the white skinned, blue-eyed WASP. White, Anglo- Saxon, Protestant. Especially in Winter, we look like we're at deaths door unless we go to the tropics to tan ourselves and risk our lives getting skin cancer. Muted colors are ok for us. I've known a Black man, from childhood who now owns two large (brand) hotels in a large city in northern Virginia and a summer home on an island off Massachusetts. Well, he may be "new money" now, but I can't imagine his beautiful wife and daughters (also highly educated entrepreneurs) wearing navy, burgundy and cream. Back in the late 1990s I had the honor to work with Mrs. Martin Luther (Coretta Scott) King while she was entertaining her sister Edythe. Every day she wore bright yellow and she could carry it off. I saw a Black woman shopping the other day wearing an orange, flowing caftan. Beautiful!!! So let's remember this is the 21st century. Old money is becoming beautifully inclusive! Bring on the yellows and oranges.

i get the whole color palette thing, but I think that "investment" piece is a bit far-fetched. These people spend a lot of money. It's not that they don't buy. They just keep buying the same color. Some are more environmentally conscious but that's more posturing than anything if you think about how they own the industries that pollute the most.

A few days ago I found a bag that was almost the same design as my dream bag, but the price blew my mind. I have a soul resonance with kislux . It taught me that beauty doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to be right.

I have pale olive with slight green undertone, Scotch Irish French skin. What is flattering is what I like. Plus I love jewel tones. I have imagined it would be wonderful to have mostly neutral colors, natural wool or alpaca, and colorful scarves and accessories. But my emotions crave color.

I prefer quiet colors, but sometimes bright colors can be good too. It all depends on the quality, style, etc. And the shades that suit you.

I've had designer pieces and knockoffs of kislux . I ultimately prefer the knockoffs because I'm not worried about scratching it, preserving it, or someone stealing it.

The reality is that woolen clothes get eaten by moths eventually. You get coffee on your favorite shirt. You lose things from time to time.

There is a classic campy movie from the 80s called Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. In it, a character named Patty says of Elvira, "Trash cannot compete with class," as she shifts around in her clothes. Just the very idea that people should judge each other so much by what they wear and how expensive it is is hilarious as well as sad. This video reminds me of that line.

This is nonsense. The more unusual the colors you wear shows you have a lot to wear with them and everything does not have to match. Neutrals seem too capsule wardrobe like which means you wear everything all the time and everything has to go together because you don’t have a lot to begin with and are trying to stretch your wardrobe. If you have bright or uncommon unusual colors that would signify you are not trying to make your wardrobe stretch so easily. Neutrals as a palette though can be considered more sophisticated.

Problem with this is that it goes completely against colour season analysis; meaning that these muted colours only suit a handful of people and will make those with clashing complexions look sick.

In my work my colleague mentioned about the very expensive bag one of the parents had. It was incredibly expensive. She was not old money but from the oldest profession. She was also a genuinely caring lady.

Also, just to add to the weird colour mismatches, not everyone suits the myriad of brown shades that this claims are “camel” - and not everyone suits cream. Forest green is just that, not the pale green shown, or olive, or sage or emerald. Give me strength. Burgundy is a hard one, a true deep blood red is gorgeous- a cheap one ? Not.

I ĺoath navy blue. It's more boring than brown. On me at least. It makes my face so boringly Gray and gloomy. You should wear the colors that goes with your skin tones and lifts them up.

I carry a good sturdy crossbody bag made of soft leather. No logos. I'd rather nobody knew how much i have. Remaining anonymous is key to personal safety.

Remember, there's "wealthy" (old money) and "rich" (new money). Growing up on Philadelphia's Main Line, I picked up the subtle clues every day. The new rich went for the expensive, trendy and flashy. A wealthy old money lady might wear a classic, 20 year old cashmere sweater with her mother's pearls, while a wealthy, old money man may wear a 20 year old wool tweed blazer and drive a vintage Mercedes. And I've always remembered - Jacqueline Kennedy never wore prints. She was the epitome or class and elegance.

I feel like this is a hard concept to relate to...and I think the only reason I know what the narrator is talking about is I've taken notice of women who look "regular" but the tasteful simplicity is unmistakable, and the level of chic confidence is highly noticeable. Why would I - or anyone care what kind of handbag "old money women" wear? ("Old money" means very substantial wealth in the family for at least 7 generations - how many people are like this, really, especially in America? ) I am sure they wear whatever match their clothes colour, style and occasion - and so should you, regardless of a low or high price or logo, which - unfortunately - is very often placed on the front of clothing, shoes or handbags, instead of being very discreet or hidden. It’s best to get a professional color analysis if you want to know what colors YOU look best in because not every palette can wear these colors! Confidence comes when wearing YOUR best colors!
