Lister Stationary Engine - SR1 Reverse Rotation 7.75BHP - Jan 2016 - Do you need a big silencer?
มุมมอง 123ปีที่แล้ว
Experimenting with an exhaust silencer that is nothing more than a tube with a suitably sized hole in the end. You don't actually need a full blown silencer as I fitted - by the way its a Land Rover Series rear silencer that I have fitted. The trick is to fit a pipe with the end blanked off and a hole of appropriate diameter drilled into the blank. Too small and it will obviously restrict power...

How to make a din' - run your engine in front of a steel garage door. No neighbours were upset in this video as I don't have any - well I do but the nearest is a long way over the other side of the road

Applying varying electrical lighting loads via the 12 volt belt fed alternator connected to a UK mains AC inverter. The loads were very low at 350 watts (1/2HP) as the injector timing is intentionally retarded to reduce knock and at low RPM the engine doesn't make much power as a consequence. I was more interested to see if it loaded up the engine too much.

It's a USA import complete with Tow bar and Vetter top box and side panniers. The top box and panniers were removed in this episode so as not to cause distress to young viewers along with the monumental massive USA bubble-butt sized dual his and hers seat in the interest of not offending anyone. Please share my pain and hopefully sunny day horizon in the coming months with me as I embark on a l...
Mercedes W211 REAR BRAKE PIPE Solid LINES - How easy not

W211 rear brake line (solid line) plus flexible hoses - includes fails and wins along the way - Dreaded/awful lack of brake pedal feel from the Mercedes SBS brake system. Bleed process included - what's not to like. As much as I am a fan of MB I can't help walking away from this overly messy job on my own car with a degree of contempt and anger at how complicated and utterly un-beneficial or sa...

This video was filmed somewhere around 1999 and 2001 from memory on a Sony Camcorder - way long before TH-cam existed. It was filmed for posterity on my part as I passed my LGV C E (previously known as HGV Class 1) test under Dick's tutelage back in 1994. On this episode we are driving a friend of Dick's ex South Wales Dodge Appliance. All complete with lights ladders and sirens. V8 Perkins Die...
Lister Stationary Engine - SR1 Reverse Rotation 7.75BHP @ 2,500RPM
มุมมอง 2264 ปีที่แล้ว
Single cylinder diesel rated at 7.75HP at 2,500RPM. Fitted with flywheel and bell housing. Typiclly used in plant machinery hence reverse rotation. A very knocky' sounding engine at low RPM making it intrusive for slow speed power generation. Higher speeds its much less knocky but still not exactly quiet

Hi again Steve.I did mean to ask if you have a clear picture of the fly-wheel cowling on your engine as mine looks very similar but i cant pause excactly where i try to get a better look. All the ones i have seen on youtube are totally different to mine.

Hi Steve.Sorry its taken me so long to reply but i could not remember my password & had a nightmare trying to set up a new one.Due to an injury i have been unable to do anything with my Lister engine till today.I have just raised it up on a breezeblock pillar to make access easier for my knackered knees.I see you sugest that my engine number is for a normal rotation & not reverse rotation. Am i likely to cause damage if i try to start the engine the wrong way ? I thought their would be an owners club that would be able to positively identify my engine & take the guess work out of it but have not been able to find such an organisation. The handle supplied with it locates only in anti=clockwise direction but the arrow cast on it shows clockwise.Previous owner said he wasnt sure if it was the right handle for the engine. So as you can see i am still unsure which way i should be cranking the engine to try and start her up.

The bushcraft Blacksmith Hi James. Thanks for the kind comment. Reverse rotation Lister versions run anti-clockwise when looking at the flywheel and were used in dumper trucks and other plant machinery. Car engines run clockwise when viewed from the engine bay but anti-clockwise when looking at the flywheel end so Lister adapted the engines to match.

Thank you steve. Just one more thing. How do i make the engine run a bit slower. My seems to run really fast.

    • @stevek3036
      @stevek3036 9 ปีที่แล้ว

The bushcraft Blacksmith Variable speed engines will have a plunger rod connecting to the fuel pump to raise/lower speed. It sounds like you may have a fixed speed generator engine so will run at 1500RPM. Not being familiar with that type i would guess that you will need to meddle with the governor wieghts/springs behind the cover on the camshaft starting handle side of the engine.

Hi Steve, I was trawling through youtube vids looking for information that may help me with a recently ebay purchased Lister SR1 when i came upon your video. I bought my engine as a complete engine but without the previous owner getting round to starting it. The crank handle suplied with it has an arrow pointing clockwise as you look at the engine with the starting shaft in front of you but it will only engage on the shaft when turned anti-clockwise so i am wondering if my engine is the same as yours my only prior experience with stationary engines is with a Petter AV1 that starts with a clockwise rotation and it was this that made me think something wasnt right with my new aquisition. Can you tell me for my peace of mind before i try and start her up is their any way of identifying which direction i should crank the handle so i dont potentially damage anything. My Petter handle fits allowing me to crank clockwise or i can reverse the spring-loaded locator pin on the handle that came with the Lister. The previous owner doesnt know so cant help me. I would be very gratefull if you could give me any help into identifying the engine i have. The serial NO is 6859 SR1A23 7.75 B.H.P @ 2,500 R.P.M Cheers. Peter.

hawkman916 Hi Peter, apologies for the late reply and thanks for the kind comments. My engine camshaft stating handle engages rotating anti-clockwise. Your engine No. indicates its a clockwise flywheel rotation version. Reverse rotation engines are SR1Z. Im sure you have already resolved what you have but the cast iron fan cowling surrounding the flywheel is of a differant design for each engine type. SR1Z variants are fairly rare - 99% of TH-cam videos are SR1A so compare your flywheel cowling. If you still dont know what type yours is rotate the engine and observe the fuel pump cam on the camshaft to verify that it lifts the pump just before TDC on the compression stroke. This will tell you the direction of rotation that the engine should run.
