Being Mentally and Physically Fit for Purposeful Innovation
Building something new requires fielding the pressures of conformity over and over again. Investing in mental and physical fitness builds the muscles needed to run that marathon.

3 Tech Books That Marked My 2024

Start 2025 with a bigger perspective on tech. These were the three books that marked my 2024. They could all be part of what I call the "vaccination kit for the US techdemic" for the rest of the world.

Nobody has commented yet; you are one of the few who saw this coming; we'll be dealing with this issue in the years to come; the boredom of tech-bro plus the toxicity of the finance-bro...

@@sheikhakbar2067 I wish it was boredom coming from the tech bros, but I am afraid it's chaos.

Thank you for the review! I have just finished the course and feel about it the same: great one to understand what questions a true leader should ask yourself, why connecting matters and how to apply frameworks like iceberg one to look at the problems. I liked the way you explain it!

Hey Anastasia, thanks. The course really makes us realize how little time is spent articulating and reflecting on the things that really matter! Hopefully we have devoted a bit more time to that now :)

Hi! I have two issues with the statement that Remarkable allows us to think more deeply simply because it is free from distractions. The first is that deep thinking cannot usually be constrained to an A4-sized sheet. A larger board is needed, preferably an infinite canvas, to give our thoughts freedom of movement. And Remarkable does not offer that; it is a screen that limits space (and thought) in the same way as an A4 sheet. It invites taking linear notes due to that limitation. And we already know that complex thinking is not linear. The other issue is that the distraction argument assumes that by choosing to use Remarkable, we suddenly don’t have a phone, Apple Watch, or other electronic devices vying for our attention. If we are strong enough to keep all other devices out of reach to focus solely on Remarkable, then we could also be strong enough to use a focus mode, like airplane mode, that allows us to work only on an iPad, for example.

Interesting, had never tought about the relationship between screen sizes and deep thinking. Googled for studies on this and found this one www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0167876021001835 that says in the abstract 'Recent e-learning studies have also demonstrated a positive effect related to larger screen sizes on a student's ability to recall information immediately after a pre-recorded lecture (Al Ghamdi et al., 2016; Park et al., 2018).' So it is worth investigating this relationship further... However I don't think it reduces the merit of someone trying, in whatever screen size - specially one that allows for portability - to aid concentration. Willpower is a limited resource, so any product that reduces friction, and spares willpower for other pursuits - specially in the context of many (most?) tech products engineered to deplete both willpower and concentration - deserves my appreciation. PS: With the bonus of being a beautiful and elegant product IMO.

I’m Chinese working in Silicon Valley. IMO there’s no purity mission driven or market driven in neither country. Even non-profit organizations can be influenced by politics, money that represents some kind of market behaviors. The market is the ultimate judge, and there’s money portion and a human portion in the evaluation. If you don’t make money, you can’t survive, if you don’t have empathy for humanity no one will use your product. So for successful companies you have to have both. Btw I like your video and your thought process, that almost have a meditative effect on me. Hope to see more of your work.

I think there are plenty of 'successful' products that don't display an empathy for humanity, exploiting psychological vulnerabilities to create addiction, for example. And I don't believe that the market is the 'ultimate judge'. I believe people are the ultimate judge of wether that technology is impacting positively their lives and the planet. Having said this, I am in favor that ideas and tech that positively impact people's lives to have a sustainable business model. I don't see them as doomed to be non-profitable. We just have to become more creative in finding these business models. Glad to hear you enjoyed my thought process. I love ideas and articulating them. Cool it also almost had a meditative effect - I couldn't ever imagine this positive externality of my expositions :)

It's Please Please Please by Sabrina Carpenter. At this point this song will play in my mind even with the video muted. The part of the song played in the video is: "All I'm asking baby Please please please don't prove I'm right Please please please Don't bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice Heartbreak is one thing My egos another I beg you don't embarass me Mother fucker ahhh Please please please Well I have a fun idea babe Maybe just stay inside I know you're craving some fresh air But the ceiling fan is so nice And we could live so happily If no one knows that you're with me I'm just kidding But really Kinda Really Really"
