Just wondering - have you never thought about trying to tac weld the splines back? Even if you can't get it perfect it just has to hold. Tac the individual splines, and then spin the shaft with the bikes engine on and grind them flat, then mark and carefully carve out the splines again with a Dremel. This method would prob work best with a Gas Mig welder , but flux core would prob work just fine
Only reason to try to do this is in the event the chain falls off and his the case and you gotta JB weld the case , you will really wanna be able to remove the sprocket. I wonder if you got an induction heater and wrapped the coil around the output shaft and heated just the splines red hot quickly and doused it in water or oil if that would give it more hardness and strength to not wear out again quickly...
Love the Ramcharger, not a dog/puppy fan.
It is a simple job.... but, there is a suggested torque and pattern to follow for the 8 bolts. Folks saying the broken a bolt, well prolly not gonna happen if you torque to 7 ft-lbs. Pattern follows X. do the 4 in the middle... btm right, top left, btm left, top right. the outer corners make an X too. btm left, top right, then btm right, top left.
Love the Ram & the puppie 🤟
@@victora.soriaf.6096 thanks for watching
Great video, but skip the music next time. And weird how he doesn't use black nitrile gloves when he's working with such a messy task. You can get a box a a couple hundred of them for dirt cheap. Beats all the grueling hand scrubbing and fingernail cleaning afterward without them.
I did not know about the coil pack donut seals , will remember this when I change the gasket
Right on. 👍
Can i drive right after or do i need to let it sit over night? Nobody seems to asnwer this question
You can drive after, if silicon was used give it 20 min to cure
@@radnplaid8083 i also noticed when I took the valve cover off the left front middle bolt was broken prior to me messing with it. Should I be worried about it leaking from it missing just one bolt or do I have time to figure out a way to get it out and put a new one in?
@@thomasbradley5419 you may get away with it for a while but eventually it will leak. But it it don’t leak after the first 10 miles probably be ok for a while
@@radnplaid8083 okay sweet it won't be long until I get a reverse drill bit set aka bolt extractor kit lol it's tiny as hell but I think I can get it
@@radnplaid8083 I do have the same engine as the vehicle in your video I used ultra grey from permatex and I put some around the area of which the bolt was missing but I didn't do a stupid amount I used the top of a flathead screwdriver to push it in between the plastic and the engine casings
Thanks. Appreciate you especially getting in there in the back with your camera to show what's going on. Gonna attempt this with a 2016 10th Gen civic tomorrow. Actually changing the entire valve cover since it developed a crack. Shop wanted $420 to replace a $175 part, lol. EDIT: finished. Started up with an error code, because I forgot to plug a sensor back in, LOL! Double check your work, people! Haha. Thanks for the demo. (BTW, I did it on a 2016 / 10th Gen civic, but the process was basically exactly the same)
need a t- case ? 4 speed ?
It’s sold now. But thanks for watching
Yo bro tysm for the vid helped me thought this only happened to me
No problem
Good job buds.
honestly, i have a 300 ex and its junk...no one knows anything about them. even had a guy private message me. claiming to not have seen one in 15 year's. cant figure out the wiring harness . everyone keeps sending me diagrams. but no luck finding the green and brown wires where they plug in at...
Sorry to hear that!
I got a 02 300ex and it's the best thing ever - only junk if you think it is and can't figure out your problem.. but their wiring is easy and very basic. There is literally a several hundred page PDF manual for them - I used it to rebuild an entire transmission / engine assembly one time and it worked great
🤣
URGENT, What are the blue connectors called that are visible clearly in the video once you removed the valve cover? I got water in mine I need to know if that's bad
That’s the fuel injector clips. No big deal dry them off and plug it back in thanks for watching
@radnplaid8083 thank you so much!!
The Honda gasket is probably cheaper than the fel-pro and way better.
You just put the weld arc through the bearings and gears. Now they are probably damaged too. Earth clamp goes straight on sprocket..
2 years later it’s still driving
There is a sequence to tightening the valve cover bolts i.e. its up/down from left to right (9 ft-lb).
I was thinking the same thing. Valve cover bolts, are supposed to be torqued to spec. Also in a certain sequence depending on the engine. Otherwise great video.
For L15A (Jazz/Fit) Tighten the bolts in two or three steps. In the final step tighten all bolts, in sequence, 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 8.7 lbf·ft). Start tightening with bolt in middle front-back and criss cross left-right end bolts are last.
HINT: Clean the dirt before you remove the cover
Is there a way to know without removing if it's bent I'm just not sure lol?
Have someone turn it back and forth and watch to see if you see any movement! Good luck 🤞
@@radnplaid8083 just did it now and my pops thinks it's straight I don't see any rub or anything of the sort either. I'm replacing the handlebars this week so I can take another look from that angle as well. Thanks for the advise
Would it be a bad idea to heat up the metal?
Good point! I thought about doing that but I believe it would make the steel weaker and more likely to bend again!
@@radnplaid8083 thanks for the reply im taking apart my YFZ450 right now to try and bend the stem back i was thinking of using a lil heat since i dont have that hydraulic

@@radnplaid8083 No luck man im going to try going to a Exhaust shop or body shop and see if they have that hydraulic pump you used or something along those lines . You think 20$ is ideal to just bend it back ?
@@woozymeds 20$ is cheap in comparison to a new steam! Worth a shot if they will try
Thanks buddy, i did it some time back. Rear bolts are pita. Some tips to remove the battery negative before starting the work, and making sure the gasket didnt come out while seating the valve cover especially the right side is tricky where the pipe connects. Mine came out a little bit and got misfire and codes. Had to remove and do it again.
Nice Rig, we need more ramcharger videos! :-)
Thanks for watching got some videos coming!!
Great videos man, thanks for sharing and helping. I had this changed too, alongside the VTEC solenoid gasket, since both had equal wear.

Most concise and easy to follow of all the civic valve cover gasket videos. I like the written suggestion and the speed up of videos while being able to see you work on it. Thanks 😊
Thankyou!!!
Planning on doing this hopefully next weekend. Probably the VVT solenoid also. Thing those bolts should be torque about 7 ft lbs.
Great video well explained. Thanks. Great job.
Glad to help
Just bent my 2021 Raptor steering stem.
You think that your able to save it ?
Are you going to try and straighten it ?
I have it pulled out, but I already ordered Alba Racing's steering stem +1.5 and anti vibe bracket. So I'll just put the new one in when it gets here. I'll count it as my first MOD.
Is there a way that the steering stem could be put in where it's off center? Looks like the stem was put in turned to the right about an inch. Any way to fix it?
@@True-Scotsman I don’t think so because it’s a clamped stem so no splines. Maybe the tie rods are out of adjustment or something is twisted! Good luck thanks for watching
My man, does STP Stop Leak fix valve gasket leak?
Try tighten the bolts but don’t over do it cause they will break. It might help until hot days come around but best to change that gasket
@@radnplaid8083 I hate what Scotty told me so far. 😄Thank man.
Thanks man ill do it my self
Perfect that’s exactly what I was hoping for! Helping people help them selves!
when tightening the cover bolts you should cris cross with a Tork wrench. great video though.
Thank you for sharing!
Good idea to adjust valves on these with the cover off.
Great video Boss 🦾
Hey thanks 🤟
Yep, when the three wheeler hit the market they were awesome, and Honda new how to build machines back in the 70's and 80's. But when the real Big Red (I call it) came out in 1985, that machine was a game changer for us that didn't want speed, but power and reliability.
Well put !!!
Man, i've been trying to find a trx300 roller for years here in FL. I have a rebuilt motor that needs a body haha
Wonder what else you could put it in?
@@radnplaid8083 good question
Maybe a 400ex or a 250
@@radnplaid8083 I'll research and see what else works
I just picked up a runner for $400 on FB marketplace. Dude said the CDI went out but once I got it home I saw the spark plug wire was broke and had a 14 guage wire twisted onto the broken plug wire and attached to the spark plug. Funny thing is it had a brand new spark plug in it. Who changes a plug trying to get spark when the plug wire is junk? lol I had a brand new coil in my stash so I threw it on, sprayed some gas in the carb and it fired up. I cleaned the carb and have been ripping around a bit. I need to do some other stuff, change the oil, check the valves, tighten the chain, front wheel alignment. Pretty good deal for a '97 though. All the brakes and clutch are smooth as silk and the plastics are in good shape minus the cut off front fenders like the one in this video.
Cheers bro!
Thanks bro
Good video.

Hi There. I have owned 5 Honda AC's in the last 25 years. I don't care what shape an Honda trike is in, if all the electricals and the carb is there, if you put some gas in, it will try to run. These things were built like tanks. I only have my 200 es and my 85 250 es left now. I am rebuilding my 250. So far i've put about 1600$ (Canadian). I have about another 1000$ left to put in. If you buy the plastic kit from Maiers the kit will run you about 850$ US. Is it worth it? Maybe. In my case, I would like to rebuild mine to almost factory specs. It's expensive, but much cheaper than a newer ATV, that will brake the first time you try to pull a 2000 lbs trailer. If I go slow, I can tow 2000 lbs of dust. (I actually did it with my 200es, which is smaller). You couldn't do that with a new ATV. Good luck with the rebuild.
Your absolutely right love these old rigs they just keep giving!🤘
Honestly best thing you could have done. That happened to mine, I took it apart replaced the shaft and it lasted a year. I should have just welded it would probably still be going on it. Nice video man
Thanks bud, it’s still going I’ve gotten lucky so far!
just a little tip, please be careful when removing the rear screws, i lost one because it fell behind the engine and was never able to find it, also be really careful with tightening them, i messed up and broke a bolt off, now i have to buy an extractor set and a drill to fix this issue.
Sorry to hear that! Ya they are small 10mm bolts that don’t take much to tighten up! Good luck with the extraction I’m sure it come out easy since you just had them out! 👍
Very true lost plenty of tools, tool pieces & car pieces 😆 😆 over last few weeks. I truly try not 2.
@@journeysinthiscrazyworld682 where is the 10mm 😂
@@radnplaid8083 my man, for me I would have wrapped small yarn around the bolt when tried to put it back for retrieving if felt somewhere in the engine. I’m not mechanic. I just fixed small issue in my car only.
Great video and very informative. Thanks for sharing. Approx how many hours to remove the engine? Andy 🇨🇦
Thanks ,Probably had the engine out in 4/5 hours at a drinking beer pace!
@@radnplaid8083 Ha! Thats the Canadian way lol. Thanks for replying. 🇨🇦
where do the top 5/8 hose go for vent. One hose goes from crank case then has a T, lower hose goes down to vent . Top hose goes up behind carburetor then comes out under frame below front part of seat. I can smell gas fumes from it while its running. Does this top hose go somewhere? Fumes are stinking up my garage Thanks
I’m sorry not sure if I’m able to help here it’s hard to explain when not in front of me! Do a google image of a big red carburetor diagram that should help you with the hose routing! Good luck 🤞
My big red is stuck in gear and it won’t shift to nutral, it has been sitting out side for a while. Do you have any idea how yo get it to shift out of gear?
Try to adjust your clutch it’s on the right side of the the bike, 17mm wrench with flat screwdriver in Center turn it in till it stops don’t force it back it off 1/8 turn hold it and tighten the nut! If this don’t help you could have guide plate or drum shifter issues ect. Good luck
@@radnplaid8083 Ok I’ll try, thanks for the reply
I think u need motorcycle oil for the internal clutch or it will fck it up eventually.
Mineral oil is totally fine in the crank case. If it were a manual transmission I would run a friction modified engine oil (motorcycle oil) thanks for watching!
