My names Jake Harpaz, and I’m your regular everyday surfer. I’ll be reviewing models from old to new, reassuring you guys whether these particular boards are worth your while. FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!! Enjoy.
Tokoro Fanning (EP.29 First Impressions Unreal)
Hey guys,
Here’s my first impressions of the Tokoro Fanning from legendary shaper Wade Tokoro. I picked this board up from a guy on marketplace here in Australia. Safe to say, It’s the best board I’ve ever owned. There’s not many magic boards, but this is one of them in my opinion. An oldie, but a goodie. Maybe you guys could order a custom.
Fins used:
- FCS ARC’s (Medium)

Hey fellow surf addicts, so I’m finally getting around to finishing the Chilli Peri Peri Review. I enjoyed this board, however, mine was glassed too thick to keep. Nonetheless, a super fun piece of craft, and James Cheal doesn’t disappoint once again. Hey Guys, So today I’m giving my first impressions on The JS Original Monsta Box in PU. This is a board I’m re reviewing, and seeing whether the spark I felt all those years ago, is still there. For now, I’ve ridden multiple boards since the start of doing reviews on this channel. I will give you guys an honest verdict when I get the chance. Hey Guys, So I’m finally getting around to reviewing the Peri Peri from Chilli Surfboards. Chilli’s seem to work, and the peri peri doesn’t disappoint. This one was glassed thicker, so I wasn’t able to get the best out of this board for reviewing purposes. If I had the chance, I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Conditions: 2-5 ft Fins Used: - FCS 2 Mick Fanning (Medium) Fins I’d recommend:...

nice!
Hi Jake! Whats your take on the MG x Phantom x Pyzalien 2 as a daily driver? I have a Gremlin for the smaller surf and wanted to add one of these as a DD.
I’m 6ft 190. Could I use one of these as a step up in southern California if I got a 6’3?
What do you think about the Rasta 2+1? How does it compare?
I’m never ridden the Rasta fins, but I’d like to try them in the future for sure.
Nice, and the ARCs rule I used to only ride those fins in all my boards lol
A good reliable set of fins mate. Can’t go wrong with them.
@ agreed
Awesome vid! Mind if I ask your weight ??
Thanks mate, I weigh around 70kg
monsta box or xero gravity?
How much do you weigh?
Hey, have you tried the sharpeye synergy.
Would the pyzel mini ghost be good for a first short board
An oldie but a goodie! Too much marketing hype and new models these days that just make us buy buy buy. There are plenty of sick models released in the last 4 years that are still as relevant today. Peri Peri, HS love buzz, Chilli Rare bird, Churro2 and lots more from Al merrick!
How much do you weigh?
This board or the MR X Cali Twin?
@@ryantherock7664 The RNF in my opinion over The Cali Twin. It paddles better.
❤
Thanks Zeev 👍
You're comparing to the 5'7" BV2 but sizing is so different. Could compare if it was 5'6 BV2 vs 5'4" RNF96 maybe.
Hey mate, you are right about sizing difference. However, even with sizing, the RNF 96 feels better than the BV2 from Chilli.
1.83m 77kg. 5'7" would work for me right?
The 5’7 would be perfect. If you’re unsure, go a bit bigger if you’re buying it new.
Great video mate!! NPJ a legend 🤙🏽🌊
Thanks mate, Neal Purchase is absolutely a legend. I’m Keen to check out a couple more boards of his in the future.
@@jakesboardreviews I'm keen to watch more videos 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Terry Ville
You should hop on a dumpster diver 2
I’d love to try one in the future. I haven’t ridden the first one yet.
finally got my hands on one of these redux RNF in iconic 5'5" x 19.25" dims and running T1's. I love the board it has a very particular feeling- always feels on top of the water but when you turn it the fins and rail grab and there is a lot of hold. You can really stuff it in steep faces! For someone who spends most my time on mids/fishes this is what I want a thruster to feel like without any of the drawbacks. Mine feels not very lively in smaller/mushier surf but I think it's had a nose buckle repair and the PU foam looks old.
It’s an unbelievable board. Definitely in the top 2 boards I’ve ridden in my lifetime. That’s what I love about The RNF Redux, you can rip into it as you would with a normal thruster. Old foam makes small wave surfing difficult, after too much yellowing, it doesn’t carry the same drive in weaker waves. Glad you’re enjoying it mate 👍
How much do you/did you weigh at the time?
@@nicholasbarszcz1100 at the time around 66 kg I think.
Hey Jake how do find the durability of JS boards compared to CI boards made in Australia?
@@Henry46444 The JS Boards are definitely more durable.
@@jakesboardreviews Thanks Jake. I’ve had a couple of CI boards looking about 10 years old after only 6 months recently, so I’m thinking of switching to JS. Do JS use different blanks? Or is it different resin/fiberglass cloth?
Hilarious mate 🤣
What’s your impression about light speed ? Only eps board I surfed was FireWire helium and it was really stiff…
@@arlo1993-n1c I didn’t ride it enough to get a full verdict, but it felt alive and not too on top of the water. If I purchased it, I would go it in a PU construction, as I prefer PU’s generally. It’s a great board nonetheless if that helps.
I keep surfing my Pyzalien 2 and keep enjoying it from 1 to 5ft. From my perspective PZ2 offers great speed and control. I've had zero sessions when I struggle with lack of hold of the board. Really amazing.
Apologies for the late response mate, as you said, great board. I agree, you definitely don’t feel like the board lacks hold. It’s a great daily driver and a fun craft to ride.
sick review
@@aaron.monson_surf Thanks mate, that’s my first impressions of the board. Full review will be coming shortly 👍
Great video! Wondering how will you regard this board as a big wave board or small wave board?
@@JLi-iu2id Hey mate, this is an old model from the early mid 2000’s. It’s called The JS Fat Fish. I would categorise this board as an all rounder. It’s Something that works from waist to slightly overhead waves, due to its rocker & fish/ swallow tail if that helps.
@@jakesboardreviews thank you 🙏

Schoen Oval
What would fcs2 equivalent be?
@@michaelmcnamara8835 Either the FCS 2 Performers or Accelerators. I prefer the accelerators personally however.
Love your reviews! If you are looking for a new fin to review, I'm really curious about how the new FCS 2 Gabriel Medina fins feel. I just got a lib tech quiver killer as my first own board and I'm between the Kolohe's and the Medina's as the first pair of fins for it. But of course also open for some other suggestions.👍🏽
I’ll try check out the Medinas. To be honest, you can’t go wrong with The Kolohe’s. I ride a medium set, and they just work. They have Enough hold, and also good release and drive. Try them for your quiver killer if that helps.
Worst board I’ve ever surfed, xero gravity goes good though
The Xero Gravity is a lot better 100%
how is it compared to inferno 72?
Hey mate, I would say the Xero Gravity is less bulky in the tail, however, it doesn’t paddle as well as the Inferno 72 in my opinion. Both aren’t my boards of choice to recommend from either shaper if that helps.
@@jakesboardreviewsthanks for the reply! What would you recommend then?
Last wave is a butt tickler ❤
What model chilli3? And how'd u find it in small waves?
@@jordz627 Hey mate, this is the Chilli Peri Peri Model. As long as it’s 2ft plus, you can ride it in most conditions up to 5 ft
Compared to the Machado Seaside?
@@Bethanyluvshorses I haven’t ridden the Machado Seaside yet, so I can’t compare the two.
This board goes well with an upright quad set , I used the stretch quad rears with a reactor style front fins and it flies plus its super fast through turns, I think it prefers waves around head high with a bit of punch .
@@Dicko301 I always wanted to try it as a quad. Super fun board, and it works great. I’ll have to try it as a quad in the future, thanks heaps mate 👍
Large Tokoro FCS 2 fins go sick, at the moment I'm running Fcs 2 Tokoro large Fronts with Pyzel medium rear mix of Pivot hold and release super fast and fun my favourite setup. The Futures Tokoro go really good to.
@@tezf6883 Legendary mate, thanks for the setup tips 👍
Recommended for 2-6 foot surf? (Israel wave)
It’s Maybe not the best choice for Israel’s waves, but in your wintertime, it would be a good option to surf the beach breaks in Tel Aviv and Herzliya during the head high swells if that helps.
@@jakesboardreviews thank💙
Not sure that qualifies as “hitting the section” getting there, showing up, present maybe
Sounds like you bought the board for different purposes, by your review it seems like you were looking more for a groveler for mushy days, other than a performance daily driver shortboard for average to good waves
Hey mate, I purchased this board as I enjoyed riding The V3 Rocket previously, and always wanted to try the Rocket Redux. I felt the board lacked the drive I was looking for, and control. However, I didn’t feel hindered performance wise in steeper sections. Not my favourite board I’ve reviewed so far, but I’d still give it another crack
Hi mate, which model you preferred this or the Inferno 72?
@@adamdagan8065 Hey mate, I would personally say the Inferno 72.
Ur super underrated bro, keep it up
@@GuilhermeSantos-jd2bn Thanks mate, I appreciate the support 🙏
Is that yellow the natural color of your surf board
No it’s how polyester surfboards look after a long time. Even some epoxy’s will look like that too. It used to be white.
the only NPJ ik about is no poop july
@@whycantibeegg 😂
Stomp pad looks a little forward on that...
Nice one mate! I'l considering getting one as well. It would be helpful to know your weight as an indication for the sizing. Would you also take one with more volume under your feet? Cheers
@@bigben007ch Hey mate, I weigh roughly around 70 kgs. In regard to volume, If I purchased an RNF 96 new, I’d most likely buy one with more length. I had the RNF Redux, which is still my favourite board to date. It was a stock 5’5 19 1/4 x 2 1/4 at 27 L, and that was perfect. I personally wouldn’t buy the RNF 96 in a 5’3, as a believe length is your friend. However, my performance didn’t feel hindered if that helps.
@@jakesboardreviews thanks a lot, that is really helpful! I weight the same. I'll head to my local Surfshop and grab the stock one (at a sale price :-) I saw this week.
@@bigben007ch Good on you mate, definitely worth grabbing if it’s on sale. Let me know how it goes for you.
how much do you weight? and height pls. xrs
@@IPHMLAMIL Hey mate, I’m roughly 5’11 at 70 kgs.
I’m just about the same as you. But I wear 4/3mm wet suite. I’m on the fence. For the board’s width, I might go with the 5’11. You ride Medium fins, right? All the best, from Portugal
Thanks for the tip- AM2 honeycombs?
