How do I create the template to begin?
Omg this is what I've been looking for
3:53 I dont really understand that point. With a DAW, you can export your piece as midi and import into a notation program, do some finishing touches and then export as sheet music.
You are a great teacher. Thank you so much. I am playing sheet music for some.time and also want to play piano and sing along. You provide me the knowledge to explore that dimension Very much Appreciated !!!
Good video! I have Cubase Pro and am considering Dorico Elements. Do people not take the score view in Cubase seriously? :)
How are you adding the initial setup bits, like "Piano/Vocal" and "Music by", etc. They just popped up for you in your template example; but inputting data under the Project Info dialog is not populating to the score and there is no frame for those text items under Engrave.
Lots of helpful information in this video!
Great video, thank you so much. Are you able to comment on how to open the template and import MXL into the template? When I try that I get the MXLAFTER the existing template empty measures. Am I missing something? Thanks!!!
Really helpful, thanks!!
If you hold alt I think, and click on objects it selects them easier …or maybe it was ctrl…and command in Mac…much easier to select items when it is hard to click when texts are on top of each other
Basically it selects the item below another item
Again, Julie thank you to show us your expertise. You are a good teacher 🙂
Finale user here switching to Dorico. I have extensicely created and used Finale templates. This video is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you
same!
i'm currently notating a book of 15songs and they are very short at only 2 or 3 pages each, would i be best doing a separate file per son or one file and doing them all in different flows?
Just too fast. I’m sure this is a great video for people familiar with Dorico. Oh well. Back to lost and confused land.
The Dorico forum and the Facebook group are both really helpful (and the Dorico team is active in both). If you're having problems, ask in either of those places and you'll get lots of help.
Great video!! I'm a long time Finale user and trying to crash learn Dorico. This all makes sense. I love theatre, also. played a lot of shows in our local theatre scene... love Stephen Sondheim. Thanks!!
love it, thanks!!!!
Great video, thank you!!
But how did you create your layout of instruments
In setup mode you add players and ensembles. When you add either, Dorico automatically adds a part layout for them over on the right, ready to print out for that player/ensemble, and you can adjust each part layout independently (but each is a view on the main score, so if you edit the music, all layouts will automatically track the changes).
Very helpful!
Thank you for this video! Sorry if this is a basic concept, but can you share how you got a border around the work number?
Yeah! Yeah, Yeah! Great performance and Great song. Keep it up!
Very useful, thanks
Boa tarde... parabéns pelo trabalho! Amei sua aula... ganhou mais um inscrito 😎
Really cool setup! I’m gonna utilize some of your setup ideas in my own notion music setup- Thankyou!!
Thanks!
Annoys the hell out of me when I watch a composers video and they are using a DAW and all I am viewing is midi tracks. Dorico Pro is the best solution being the best notation software with the features of a DAW included.
Any ideas how you do dynamci markings from Cubase project?
This data-focused approach to art looks fascinating and deserves more attention among the community. I'm so grateful I got to sample some of your earlier work at events led by the wonderful @musicaltheatrewriterguy. Now I'm excited to hear more directly from 'To the Lighthouse' and help in any way I can- with the music, lyrics, or book- I'm all ears! Great job managing your time across family, work, and art. Keep on keepin' on😃
Thanks for the vid. As a side issue, if you use both a notation program and a Daw simultaneously, what would you use for an interface to toggle between the two? Do you have a favourite one you use?
Thank You!
I've been composing and arranging for many years now, even learned the piano for 4 years, but this simple and structured listing of things that effect your voicing, really helped me step up my game! Thank you very much. Your way of presenting and speaking also helps a lot in keeping focus. <3
Hello. I work with a Cubase Pro 11. It took me a long time, but now I've got the score edit down pretty well. I invite you to watch any of the videos on my channel. What do you think? I'd love to hear your comments. All the best. JM.
Thank you but i need to- how print the notes by score editor
thank you for good information!
did you need to reinput all your dynamic markings? how do you remember where to put them? also in cubase did you just play the notes on your keyboard and then quantize them before you exported them?
Is there a way to write something in Muscore and then put it into Cubase 5 so I can choose better sounding instruments, mix it better, and use better effects. I want the final product to come from Cubase . Now this final product will function as a demo tape did back in the day. Why don't I just write in Cubase? The notes I write in Cubase score are never accurately represented. It's sooooo frustrating! Great channel and great content. Thank you for this helpful video. I just downloaded the only notation program that I could get - Muscore. All thanks to this helpful video.
Holy Cow! Is there a program that plays notes you write!?!??!?!? The ones I have tried NEVER play what I write accurately.
Dorico seems the best of both world since it's primarily notiation software but had an excellent midi editor. Most people go from DAW to Notation, but tend to go the other way around if I need more than your typical orchestral Instruments.
Beautiful song.. what more is there to say 🙂
Oh dear...
Nice good
Oh, I love the jingle😭❤
dorico gives you hability to add plugins, libraries, edit midi on a piano roll....
For your work revision number, you could use a token. The date can be filled automatically every time you save the project.
You mention that you use Garage Band and another program in the lower budget side. What program is it?
Great job explaining!! When adding tokens to Page Templates, you can right click before typing anything and Dorico will have a drop down menu that you can pick any token that you have put in your information dialogue.
Thanks for this ever so useful technique 🙂
Thank you for the good video.
Wow! Thanks for sharing such priceless information!!!❤
Reaper has had notion software built into it for years. I can write an entire soundscore, record it, and export the entire chart as a PDF. You can add lyrics and chord symbols, mark your A-B sections, etc. I took a Pro Tools class in college while studying recording engineering and bought a copy of Reaper for something to work on so I wouldn't have to go to the lab. I never opened Pro Tools again after the class. You can also edit video with Reaper. Just $60 U.S. for 5 years and all updates included.
