Ken's Cinema Sofa

Welcome fellow film lovers! It's Ken, your cinema guide in Tokyo. I grew up exploring amazing films and television with my film grad Dad, always encouraging me to seek out new frontiers of creativity. As a missionary in Japan, and Korea before that, I took that spirit on the road with 15 years of experience in theology and cultural immersion. I figured those aspects of myself couldn't hurt in starting my new hobby: exploring cinema. There's a TON of movies I have seen, but surprisingly many that I have not. So expect everything from big Hollywood popcorn movies (big Marvel fan!), to smaller independent films, TV shows, and maaaybe the occasional video game? If it's creative, who knows? Some may be religious in nature, which I usually supply with a healthy commentary, and some others will just be me fanboying! Come along for the ride!

Great video man. Your insight on Japanese culture is really interesting, I always got the idea that this show was really detailed and accurate but I never would have noticed half of this stuff. Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks for the encouraging comment Jim! Yeah I'm honored to be able to watch a production so richly detailed, the hype was real. Much more coming, editing episode 3 now, stay tuned!
He's Back! Glad to see super dog joining the cast
Yes! This is the silver age version of the character, with all the whimsical sci-fi that I love from All-Star Superman. And his name is Krypto Fern, how dare you with that "super dog" LOL "joining the cast" haha raise in milk bones kept him at the table
when I first saw it I smiled from ear to ear subconsciously only realized I was smiling midway through. it reminded me of the 1940s Fleischer Superman cartoons my father got me back when I was 4.
Yeah! Wow, I forgot to even mention that, good point! I'd read that Gunn was also influenced by those, classic! What do you think of the costume?
@@KensCinemaSofa it's pretty good. at first I was on the fence and kept my judgement on it when it was first revealed. but seeing it in motion has got me on board.
Yeah, agreed, and I think the leaks on the internet didnt do it justice, seeing it at weird angles and probably not tightly fastened in between cuts
Greetings from Chicago!!
Greetings sir!! How'd you like the trailer??
@ loved it, looks more in line with the colorful, fun feeling of the comics.
Exactly man, that's what I was thinking, you can still show emotion and distress without sacrificing that
it’s funny you mentioned blade runner because ridley wanted to intertwine prometheus with blade runner. vickers was allegedly a replicant.
Hey thanks for the comment Alex! Yeah I'd heard rumors of that, what do you know about it? I think that'd b confusing, since androids are already in the Alien world don't you think? Are they different than replicants? Replicants seem closer to us humans in emotion, even bleed red. Interesting.
@ the way they explained it is that androids only belong to weyland yutani and replicants are made by another company kinda like apple and samsung. also replicants are more like clones than robots so they’re a bit different. it’s kind of a dumb idea but it would be interesting to see them interact. lol
AhhhhHAaaa! OK, got it now, yeah it would be really interesting to see that, especially since both worlds were pioneered by Ridley Scott. Come to think of it, I really need to do a Blade Runner rewatch/commentary. Thanks for your insightful comment!
"I disavow them" 😂. Great review, interesting tidbits throughout, gotta add it to my watch list. U should be eating popcorn during your review 🍿
Sup brotha! Hey thanks man, yeah I put my disavow stamp on those movies...wait, what movies?? Don't know what yer talkin bout lol. Believe it or not, somebody snapped on me for eating some food while reacting, I thought it'd b nice to show some Japanese food here in Japan, but I guess some folks can't get with the 3D food particle effects You didnt see the movie yet??? Maaan what r you doin? LOL
@@fernandocreative **cheese has entered the chat**
Hahahaha we gonna do this now on the channel too! I'm so here for it lol
I don’t think that was Ash. Remember the first Ash was decaptitated and left in the space ship that Ripley blew up at the end of the first movie
Hey thanks for the comment!! Hahaha Yes, yes, I feel you on that brother Mancer, it kind of confused me during the reaction
@ thanks for the heads up on the upcoming TV series, I had no idea!
Oh yeah! Made by Noah Hawley (Fargo Tv series)
Hey Ken, I just discovered your channel and I think it is pretty interesting. Do you take Movie Reaction Video Requests ? If Yes then if you haven't already seen it yet, is there any chance you can a Reaction Video to the movie "John Carpenter's The Thing" (it is an R-rated Sci-Fi/Horror movie that came out back in 1982 and it stars Kurt Russell) ?
Hey there and welcome to the cinema sofa! Thanks for the comment too, really helps people like you find my small channel. Ahh, the grey hairs on this head have been around the block lol so I have seen THE THING! No way I'd miss a classic like that with my film grad Dad in the house growing up, mandatory viewing! What I can do is a rewatch/commentary in the near future, interested?
@@KensCinemaSofa Yeah, I will keep a lookout for that reaction video. If you don't mind me also asking, have you already seen all 6 of the "Scream" movies ? If not then is there any chance you could do reaction videos to each of them ?
Oh you got me! I have seen only the original 3, yeah definitely will get to those. I took a year off from the channel so trying to get the ball rolling again. Thanks again for your help!
ALIEN ROMULUS is HERE! How did you guys feel about this one? I know many people, including some friends of mine, are on the fence about it. Drop a comment and fill me in!
You should read Brian Godawa 's Jesus Truimphant. Brian godawa does art lincses but he is stick true to who Jesus is and the gospel.
Thanks for the recommendation Elizabeth! I have some time coming up during the holidays, so I'll look into it!
I personally started reading with Jezebel harlot of queen of Israel my humble opinion that book is better than any movie produced lately
@KensCinemaSofa the books are on audible and amazon
You should read Brian godawa Chronicles of the Nephilim, Chronicles of the watchers, and the Chronicles of the apocalypse based on Gensesis 3 war between the two seeds the seed of the seperent and the seed of woman. God Jesus vs false gods of the nations aka fallen angels and satan
I watch TV shows and movies i have a big problem with blend other religions with gospel of Jesus Christ and water down the truth.
I'll check and see, but thanks for your comment Elizabeth!
The problem is that they push devil's one world order religions
Really??! Oh we'll see, I haven't gotten that far yet
Lifting up mary too much... it is idolatrous and weird spirit behind the show is produced catholics and Mormons not true bible beliving born again the holy spirit christians with discernment. John baptist is mock😢 they made Jesus Christ made weak on doctrine instead Jesuus made some social justice leader that's wicked as hell. They promoted that blasmpher Dan Brown's Jesus.
Wow, OK these are a lot of allegations against the show, and if they are true then we need to pray diligently for these brethren, I just haven't gotten that far yet. Starting season 3 next week, pray for me!
The chosen has another spirit that not The Holy Spirit and another gospel and the music is unsettling. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed". 2 Corinthians 11:4
Thank you for your comment Elizabeth! I truly appreciate your spiritual perspective, I have heard from some others the same as you, and others that love it. I have only seen 2 seasons so far myself, and up until now I have not seen anything major that would categorize this show as "another gospel". The message is still the same: God has come in flesh through His Son Jesus Christ to redeem all who believe. The law is made complete in Christ, as he says in the show "I am the law of Moses". Paul says in Colossians 2:16-17: "Therefore let no one judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a feast, a New Moon, or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the body that casts it belongs to Christ...." This was one of the main challenges that Paul and his generation of Christians faced from false teachers preaching "another gospel": trying to put people back in slavery to a law instead of the grace of the Lord Jesus poured out at the crucifixion. Now, as I said, so far I don't see anything MAJOR, there will always be smaller changes and interpretations by Christian artists and creators due to how vast Christianity is in the world. However, I commend the Chosen team's transparency and accountability by encouraging people to read the Bible AS they watch the show (a secular production would not care to say that), staying connected with the community, listening to our criticism about the show and making videos to answer them -- as well as having a circle of advisors -- from Baptist pastors to Messianic Jewish rabbis (Jews who believe Jesus is the messiah, if you didn't know) -- to help guide them. Everyone makes mistakes, but it's good to see their intention to stay right with God by taking these steps. Many, many Hollywood Bible movies make a crazy amount of mistakes, and don't care to check with pastors and churches to ask if they are doing things right. Pray for our brothers and sisters of the Chosen that they continue to stay humble in this way, because we need more Christians to use their artistic skills to preach Jesus. I promise to stay alert though as I continue the series, bless you!
@KensCinemaSofa you read Brian godawa books at least he stick true the spirit not weak down Bible. Chronicles of the Nephilim biblical historical supernatural warfare.
24:50 if I remember right, I think Joseph was in prison for about 3 years
Hey Saklee! Thanks for the comment, yeah scholars say at least 2 years, maybe much more. The Bible is kind of vague on that particular detail
This show just keeps getting better! Thanks for everyone's recommendations and input expanding on the historicity of this show. Looking forward to episode 3!
Do not question those things you are unsure about. All will be revealed either by Expo or Backstory. Knowing your Japanese history is helpful too. A lot of what you see is based on historical fact. Katajikenai !!
This is based on a novel loosely based on real life events.
Hey thanks for the comment Chris! Yeah I have a nice bit of knowledge of Japan since it was my minor in college. However, that study was from 1600's to modern times, with some extra study of the Heian Jidai, and Yayoi (my personal interest), so there are some gaps. I learned more since getting here to Japan in 2009 though. I know that this guy has to be based on Tokugawa Ieyasu though, no question. My main reason for questioning in the video though is to get fine gentleman like you to share in the comments (helps the algorithm)! LOL thanks!
Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah I've known that since the original with Richard Chamberlain aired, in fact I'm ashamed to say that it was one of the reasons I didn't try the series or the book out years ago (im a stickler for historical accuracy). So glad I changed my mind due to the recommendations of folks on this channel!
You are in for a treat with this series. It is artistically - hell, in fact in every way, the best thing I have seen and I have been around since Moses wore shorts!! One thing - your movie volume is way low and maybe should be on a par with your Mic? An observation; not a criticism.👍
Hey thanks so much for that sir! haha LOL that long huh? That really gets me fired up, and in fact the second episode is done and scheduled for Thursday. About the volume, I intentionally made it low as to evade copyrights, its worked for me thus far, but if its too low to satisfy viewers then yeah I'll raise it.
I love this adaptation! And I appreciate your insights. Toranaga is an analog for Tokugawa. :) from the producers/show runners - they wrote the script in English, the script was translated into Japanese, and then the script went to a screenwright who specializes in samurai drama and translated modern Japanese into "Shakespearean" Japanese. and then it went back to the writers for the subtitles to be written in English. We can thank Hiroyuki Sanada for the authentic representation of feudal Japan.
Hey thanks for the comment and sharing all that info! I had no idea the writing process was that intricate! Yeah I suspected that connection with Tokugawa, the similarities were striking. Looking forward to more!
Brandon Potter plays Quintus. Agree the episodes spark a path back to the Bible. Good luck avoiding spoilers….. Some doozies are in store
haha thanks for the warning Linda! I'm dodging spoilers like a running back lol yeah im ever grateful for the sparks fellow brethren in Christ make using their creative skills in this production.
And thanks for that actor's name drop!
Nope - the WOW (Walking on Water) scene is at the end of season 3. For those who saw it in theaters, it was a total surprise because they did such a good job keeping it a secret. As for Judas, they do a great job of showing that he fit in from the beginning, as the other disciples were surprised when he betrayed Jesus. It's not like he was Snidely Whiplash from the beginning. The gospel writers mention the betrayal every time they say his name, but that is because they wrote it down afterwards. The show builds the story of Judas throughout the next 2 seasons and show a possible reason why Judas betrayed Him - his misunderstanding of what Jesus came to do.
Hey thanks for the comment Chris! I was afraid to read your comment (trying to stay spoiler free?? ironic, I know lol). Yes, I do like how they're portraying everyone 3 dimensionally, they're doing an excellent job of building what it would feel like in that final moment. Being in part fiction, we still dont know totally how much the disciples knew about his character (as they said Judas used to help himself to the moneybag in John 12:6, something im sure didnt just come to light after his betrayal) It was more likely all put together in hindsight. Still, a devastating blow. Appreciate you always!
Hey brother I know I'm late to the party but I appreciate your reaction on this masterpiece of a film, God bless from New Zealand. From a fellow Christian and actually also Dragon Ball fan haha
Hey there Ethan! Better late than never, and always welcome! Thanks for the comment, yeah this one was jam packed with spiritual elements to explore, I could not resist. Stay tuned for more! (and maybe some Dragon Ball too lol)
This was such a beautiful episode in all of it's theological mystery as to the nature of Jesus ❤🔥 What did you like? Let me know!
Excellent series!!!! 🙏🏽💪
Hey thanks for the comment! So far I see what everyone's getting hyped about, now im even more excited
A wonderful drama, thanks for your work in Japan for those who need to hear the Gospel. Japan is one of my favorite cultures. My trap to Japan was in 1981 for two weeks. Every episode is exciting and a surprise at every turn. This new version is the best.
Hey thanks for the comment William! Yes this show has got me hooked from the very start, it is the rare show that is top notch in every area, with added effort in recreating a time and place down to obscure details like dialect. Love it. I appreciate the blessed encouragement as well! 1981? Wow! You're a vet then as far as Gaikokujins go lol Was it work or pleasure? I came out here for 2 weeks 20 years after you, then again in 2005 and finally to live from 2009. Keep my ministry in your prayers kudasai
Was based on Tokagawa Ieyasu ,also there was an englishman William Adams shipwrecked in Japan in 1600 42:39
Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah I'd heard of a French man in Japan who was the basis for last samurai, but the first im hearing of William Adams, appreciate the help!
Also Mariko is based on Akechi Tama also known as Hosokawa Gracia.
@@sebastianmunozochoa1485 Hey thanks for the comment Sebastian! I'm not aware of Akechi Tama, and I'm assuming "Gracia" was her Christian name? I'm fighting the urge to google it, wanna go in fresh. Thanks again!
@@KensCinemaSofa you're welcome man. I'm also reading the book, I was even considering buying a Blu-ray with the 1980 version of Shogun that was in a video store. I mean , both versions are good.
Ah, so you do recommend watching the original after I finish this one? Or is it a bit redundant? I may just watch it on my own
Really enjoyed this show! Such rich detail, even the Japanese language was antiquated, they don't speak like that anymore. Let me know what you liked or what they could have done differently Oh and I made a mistake in the video: I came back to Japan in 2005, when I was 25 LOL
I don’t have a problem with the modern sayings since I pretty sure that they had their own modern first century saying which we in this age probably wouldn’t get. The Chosen has been translated into 50 languages so far and this is one of the things they have to adjust when doing it because some of the sayings we might have don’t exactly translate well in other languages.
Hey thanks for the comment anme! Yeah, that's a good point, I mostly agree with you. I think we do need to be careful also: there's a line between translating something to better fit our understanding, and watering scripture down to fit our culture. The Chosen has not done the latter so much as I'm seeing so far, thank God, but it's a fine line that Bible translators often balance. Thanks again!
@ I understand, but I wasn’t exactly talking about the translations of the Bible parts but rather translating the modern day sayings from English into other languages and the jokes that Americans may get that other cultures wouldn’t. Forgot to mention before, I enjoy your reviews of the Chosen.
Oh yeah, gotcha, yeah I must admit it does make me comfortable watching the show with a few zingers LOL. And thanks for saying so, sorry TH-cam has a limit to how many times they want to alert me to a new comment so I didnt see this, but its greatly appreciated, bless you!
I am from Germany... My son live in Tokio... Where ist your Church in Japan... Greetings von Germany....
Greetings from Tokyo! Thanks for the comment, and I have plans to visit Berlin's Pergamon Museum (some biblical artifacts there). You son is here? Awesome! My church is at Seiseki Sakuragaoka station, tell him to find me on Instagram - Ellis Gandy
I think if Jesus was tempted in all ways as we are, then he would have had to consider His words before He spoke them, as we do. Not that His words were not directly from God, but that in His humanness He could have have said things in different ways - Just like if He said "Excuse me", or "pass the bread" He could have been tempted to be rude instead of polite. That doesn't really explain what I mean, but the mystery of the incarnation will always be somewhat a mystery to us.
Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah that is a nice point of view there, in our humanity we have free will to speak however we want which means that there is temptation in that as well, interesting observation. There were also definitely times when scripture says that 'Jesus, full of the spirit, said' or 'shouted' so and so, which shows that at some points the Holy Spirit took over and directly spoke what He wanted to, but then again there were moments when Jesus "marveled" at something that seemed surprising to him (centurion's faith for example). so yeah I agree it remains a blessed mystery, one that I think we're meant to ponder and discuss for ages, and keeps our mind's on Christ. Thanks again for the insightful comment!
Great reaction as always. Thank you for reacting to this show. I really appreciate your observations. EASTER EGG 🐣 #1 QUINTUS: Have you ever been to the Far East? JESUS: I've *received* visitors from the Far East (as in the Wise Men who brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh). EASTER EGG 🐣 #2 QUINTUS: Oh, Jesus of Nazareth, I really like you! Just don't make me kill you. JESUS: I won't make you do anything. But my father, on the other hand... (alluding to his eventual crucifixion). This episode was just soooo GOOD.
Hey thanks for the comment Crystal, you caught those Easter eggs, awesome! I really enjoy the way those writers connect the past to the present. I must say the first one didn't register with me because they said the "Far" east, which would be where I live in Japan, along with China, Korea, etc. The gospel of Matthew says "Magi from the east" came to Jesus, but Magi were diviners and astrologers who served Babylonian and Persian kings historically. And east of Israel is modern day Iraq (Babylon) and Iran (Persia). The second Easter egg I got, oh yeah. Thanks again always and stay tuned!
It's not indicated why the father is banished, but it's clearly not the case that the community was strict ("Puritanical" in the negative sense in which the term is often used) and kicked the family out because they were less strict. Just the opposite, it seems. Obviously the father is extremely strict in his beliefs and practices. Even in his opening speech, he indicates that *he* has been the one preaching the gospel purely (thereby condemning the community that doesn't agree with his beliefs). Something similar happened with Roger Williams. Though he's associated now with "liberty of conscience," in his earlier years he was a strict Separatist, stricter than the rest of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and of the Plymouth Colony. Their members, when visiting England, would attend Church of England services and Williams couldn't stand that. To him, it was a terrible compromise. You could imagine him saying, like the father here, "What did we come all the way over here to the wilderness for unless for the pure gospel? So how can we go back to the Church of England to visit?" Eventually, Williams caused so much trouble that they were going to ship him back to England, but he ran away out into the wilderness. The father in The Witch, too, has clearly been a troublemaker, seeing his views as the "pure" ones. He condemns himself later for his "pride." It's that pride that leaves him outside the community. As the church father Cyprian put it, and Calvin and later Puritans echoed, "Outside the church there is no salvation." The Witch is, in a sense, a Puritan horror story.
Thanks for the comment, it's really clear you understand Puritan history and the theological context that The Witch is set in! That is a very astute observation about it being a Puritan horror story, and not too far off from many mainstream christian teachings: a sheep, in the wilderness of the world, best stay near the chief shepherd, Christ himself. The wolves look for strays, or the lame that linger behind. The witch embodies that wolf. Thanks again for such an insightful comment!
You know, a reaction should wait for the story to unfold to THEN react, rather than jumping ahead. JS
Yeah once again, if I had a time machine, you could talk to me from a year ago lol. Check out some newer ones.
"Not what we once were"
thanks!
Yes, there are episodes where you see very little of the character of Jesus - because this is the Chosen; that is, the show focuses more on those who were chosen to follow Jesus, ie His disciples. As this episode aptly illustrates, meeting Jesus has a greater impact when you know where each started.
Hey thank for the comment! Wow, you found one of my early vids from a year ago, yeah I was still green when it comes to reactions, always getting better (even now). When I talk at length I always pause, yes. Bless you in Christ!
It's obvious to me that this is not your first watch, since you talk over so much of the dialogue. If it truly is your first time, then you either need to pause or you need to put on the captions, so you don't miss.
Oh I see you have several comments on this video, sorry just saw them (14 hrs ahead here in Tokyo). Well, yeah im a minister and missionary here in Tokyo, deception is not part of my trade, this is my first time watching through the show. But then this was an early reaction video, when I was still getting used to it. Maybe check out some newer ones to compare. Bless you!
Actually Both Film's Joseph king of dreams and the prince of egypt got nothing to do with Both true story's because with Joseph king of dreams based in the time of The book of Genesis and the prince of egypt based on the time of the book of Exodus
Hey thanks for the comment! Sorry though, I don't quite understand what you mean. Can you explain?
@@KensCinemaSofa Because they are both different timeline of the Bible GENESIS for Joseph king of dreams and Exodus For the prince of egypt 400 years later They're still connected to the Israelites though and Based on a True story of The Bible but Parts of both books Genesis and Exodus in the inspiration of the Film's were taking out of context an Joseph king of dreams and the prince of egypt for Entertainment purposes
Thanks for clarifying your comment, I understand what you're saying. I am curious though about why you said it. Was there some point you saw in the video that you were commenting on? Yes, they are from 2 different points, but Joseph's story is important for learning how the Israelites got into Egypt, why they flourished as they did (due to Joseph's incredibly good standing with Pharaoh), which later influenced the Pharaoh of Exodus's decision to enslave them - “Then a new king, who did not know Joseph, came to power in Egypt. "Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become too numerous and too powerful for us. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, or they will increase even more; and if a war breaks out, they may join our enemies, fight against us, and leave the country.” So the Egyptians appointed taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labor." - Exodus 10:8-11 So while the two time periods are different, there is still a narrative flow from Joseph (and from before Joseph, since the promised land flowing with milk and honey that Moses wants to take the hebrews to was a covenant with Abraham, Joseph's great grandfather) to Moses.
I have been waiting for you to continue this series. I enjoy your comments. I especially loved the forgiveness scene in the tent. It shows so much of what we think versus what God has done for us. I also really enjoy the Old Testament scenes, and the verses from the OT that point to Christ or to the NT.
Thanks for the comment! I'm certainly glad to be back Chris! Yeah that forgiveness scene really sets Christianity apart from other religions, specifically the concept of "grace". And I'm ALWAYS down for Old Testament scenes that are woven in as you said. Stay tuned!
I love Jesus
Amen! I love Jesus too, it's even more amazing that a being that is holy: a fundamentally superior, and entirely other order of being would love us more! And desires to speak to and make covenants with us!
Been an atheist for a long time. I can't remember why exactly, maybe it was due to me recognizing that without strong Judeo-Christian values, the world is slowly losing it's grip on reality. Anyway, I watched the first few episodes and I haven't cried this much in a long time. The Jesus story is so deeply connected to a part of us which we've neglected for so long. You see it everywhere - movies, games, music - everything is either sex, drugs or guns. Innocence and purity are a taboo subject in entertainment. I'm going to buy a Bible soon. There is something so beautiful (and extremely sad at the same time) about Jesus, that I cannot neglect anymore. By the way, your channel was a random TH-cam recommendation which I'm grateful for.♥
My brother thank you for sharing such an insightful, and just real comment, I believe, though He seem far away, every soul has the potential to sense there Creator calling. But the world, as a whole, is inherently opposite of God. Jesus said it best: “My kingdom is not of this world; if it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now My kingdom is not of this realm.” “Then You are a king!” Pilate said. “You say that I am a king,” Jesus answered. “For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice...” - Jesus on trial, John 18:36-37. Happy blessed reading!
@@KensCinemaSofa You're a wonderful human being, thank you!
I also like how they bring the OT into the story, showing the continuity of the Scriptures.
Hey thanks for the comment! Yes, yes, love that too. I think it mirrors how the Bible should be read as well, the Old Testament supplements and corroborates the gospel.
I really love this episode. Everything from Mary Magdalene coming back to Jesus and how Jesus took her back in, to the man with the withered hand being healed, to even the low-key crush that Matthew reveals about Mary Magdalene. I loved it all.
Hey thanks for the comment Crystal! Yeah I loved it as well, this show is so good at organically melding extended elements that are reasonably assumed about the disciple's lives with biblically grounded scenes from the gospels, and even mostly in the order they happened! Can't wait to see more
Amen my friend to all the scripture you cited! Keep on keeping on, subbed
Much appreciated brother! Bless you and I will a keep own!
14:26 I'm sorry, i can't stop laughing when you were gonna explain something and the video cuts to you chuckling at Simeon's ballerina dance when he took Jospeh's coat, that was perfect editing 😂
hahaha don't be sorry, sometimes random acts of whimsy and the weird override even the most well laid plans. Totally forgot what tidbit I was gonna illuminate. It's been awhile, so when I reviewed the clip you meant just now, I instantly chuckled again in astonishment LOL
Masterpiece. Thanks for reaction.
It's my honest pleasure, thanks for the comment! More to come, just regrouping after a trip back home.
I believe that the problem with many "versions" of the Bible isn't the fact, that It was translated into many languages, but the fact that over the years, some people of power made changes, "throwing out" some parts of the Bible they did't want to be known. That's the problem - like July of the 325 A.D and the Emperor Constantine.
Hey Akane! Thanks for the comment, yeah I agree on that as far as earlier versions throughout history that have affected large swathes of christianity, especially in Europe. However, with the advent of modern technology and archaeology, we have access to over 5800 biblical manuscripts that make up the Bible, some of which go back to the 2nd century, and one, the oldest, manuscript p52 (portions of the gospel of John) is from 100-150 A.D., a mere 80-110 years after Jesus Christ himself -- well before there was ever a complete put together "bible" as we know it. Researchers find that the differences between these early manuscripts are trivial, mostly linguistic, dialect changes in a word, etc. Modern translations like the ESV project and NASB, that are designed to translate "word for word" from these early manuscripts, may be a tougher read than, say, the NIV version (thought for thought) to some, but they have a fountain of the early records to make sure that nothing is lost or added. Not to mention the huge amounts that are as ancient and from Egypt (Coptic), Syria, Ethiopia, etc. These were outside of Rome, but included in today's ongoing analysis
