Yusei #1 i love the overall vibes and realism and darkness of of 5d's. Yusei is just a guy that grew up on the streets poor, and segregated with the rest of his friends and made a change to the outlook of new domino city. I also loved how yusei never gave into darkness in the way some other characters did. Idk man i just cant see any of the other protags on that evel pf maturity

Does this take place before or after Yubel because if before then the plot is fitting well but if this take place after Yubel Jaden should also have access to Yubel’s\ the great king’s power as well as super poly then why isn’t Jaden tapping into his and Yubel’s power along with Yugi re-tapping into Pharaoh Atem’s power? If this does take place after Yubel the plot seems like it has some minor pmotholes

My only complaint is that at the end I think it would have been more interesting if he put a card like cyber Commander to frame Tristan instead. Since he was the one who threw the ring he would want payback. Allowing Yugi to still be a dualist and having a chance to win at it while distracting him because Tristan is running from the law

Declan is such an interesting character that it's really hard for me to actually appreciate him as a rival. I really love the D/D/D archetype as has so many unique qualities to its gameplay and strategies. However I rather find his personality boring? He has the persona and skills as a duelist that makes him great. Plus he wants to fight back against his father's organization to protect the four dimensions while pushing the protagonist yuya to be his best despite the conflict at hand. But even with all that there's something missing about Declan. And that's something could have been explored more in the anime and the manga flushed them out a little bit better. But even still he just felt kind of bland in terms of his own motivation or his inner struggles he faces. He's in a similar situation as revolver he's he's in the middle of being a really good rival but there's something that's lacking.

Tori got plenty of screentime. She was present for almost every one of Yuma's duel. The problem was that for the amount of screentime she got, she didn't contribute anything meaningful besides being the supportive childhood friend. It's the same issue I have with Tea, although I was able to tolerate her more I was surprised to see Romin so low, I’ve heard many people say she’s one of the better written female characters. I haven’t watched Sevens myself, though, so I can’t give an opinion on her Yuzu started out strong, but like many of the female characters of the series, she falls off and is reduced to a damsel in distress I don’t know if I agree about Alexis having character development or at least enough worth pointing out. It felt like the writers didn’t know what to do with her, which is why they tacked on her dream of becoming a teacher completely out of nowhere. Also, she may have been a strong duelist, but she never got any important duels I can agree with Aki’s placement, I would even consider putting her at the number one spot, just because I feel like she was handled the best out of all the girls. She had a very strong introduction, and was a sympathetic character I love Aoi, but I would not put her at the top. She’s in the same boat as other female leads where she’s underutilized and treated very badly in the story. She lost duels that she should have won

To whoever is reading this: If your answer for #1 wasn't Joey, know that I respect your opinion... so long as you admit its wrong.

Even though its cheating, it has to be a three-way tie between Yugi, Jaiden and Yusei for me. All 3 are iconic and did something better than the other 2. Yugi is the heart of the franchise. The love for the game itself and the desire to protect & support the people you care for. Its simple, but its something every protagonist after him carries at their core. I feel like we take for granted how inspiring someone so earnest can be. Jaiden is probably the most traumatised and has the biggest rollercoaster of an arc. He's a walking representation of how everyone, even the kindest of us, have a destructive side that hungers for strength and our own selfish goals. But that this can be a force for good if honed by hope and the belief in both your own and others' potential. Yusei is the most outwardly stoic. The complete opposite to Jaiden in how he doesn't really change, but unlike Yugi who passively inspires, Yusei *burns* the path he wants into the world. He doesn't just want to protect those he cares about, he wants to change the world into a place where everyone is inspired and free to do the same.

I swear every time they make a female duelist that's part of the main cast, or at least adjacent, its almost always *Cool concept, mediocre execution.* They either start off cool, but get delegated to "damsel in distress" or get robbed of their Duels and much deserved screentime. Alexis and Akiza make me the most mad, but I can't deny that Yuzu and Skye/Blue Angel probably got it the worst if I'm being objective. Romin is the only one that managed to stay both plot relevant and a solid character from beginning to end. Because while I definetly don't find her half as interesting as many of the others on this list, the fact that she survived the entirety of her show's run without getting ruined or sidelined is a *miracle* So she kinda deserves to be in the top 3 for consistency alone in my opinion.

In my opinion, the mark of a well done rival character depends on both their relationship with the main character but also if they feel like a protagonist in their own right. This is exactly why Kaiba remains iconic and why Jack is so loved. Personally its a tie between them as they have very similar qualities, its just that they each excel in slightly different areas. Every other character, again just for me, either didn't got the screentime they deserved, the writting botched them hard or they simply didn't have personal enough of a connection with the main protagonist to be considered a rival Special shoutout to Kite for being I think the only rival character to never actually *lose* a game to the protagonist.

I also wanna point out that Joey fought a thug with nunchucks, with his hands in his pockets on a pipe over a river for Yugi in the slickest way possible.

Personally, I would have put Atem on here, too, since the OG is as much his story as it is Yugi's, if not moreso.

Akiza is the best because she had great character development. None of the other girls had this. Sky is a close second for me for the same reason; character development, as shown in her avatar changing as she grows. Although not on the same level as Akiza.

I feel like the girl the one who fought akiza and crow she should be on the list if we talk about duel wise. I think sherry her name? she made crow and akiza struggle and if it were one on one she would had won

Vrans, Sevens, and Go Rush are the only series where the female protag don't have feelings for the male protag. Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monster: YuGi has Tea and Rebecca gunning for him. Yu-Gi-Oh GX: Alexis and Blair are fighting to see who get's Jaden. Yu-Gi-Oh 5DS: Yusei and Akiza like each other. Yu-Gi-Oh ZeXal: Tori and Cathy have a big crush on Yuma. Finally Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V: ZuZu and Aura having a crush on Yuya, Yugo having a crush on Rin, and finally Yuto and Ruri being a couple like Yusei and Akiza from 5DS.

I agree with most of this list, but the biggest crime for me is the use of the English Dub names. I cringe every time I hear "Zuzu" instead of "Yuzu" or "Akiza" instead of "Aki". 4Kids has this weird practice of Westernizing character names if they sound too Japanese and leaving character names alone if they sound Western enough like "Jack Atlas" and "Crow Hogan" from 5D's.

Thank you for the video! Personaly i would put Romin at 4, Aoi at 3 and Alexis at 1. Alexis is just too awesome, i am so sad to see how she was treated in later seasons. And i wanted her and Jaden to get together so bad. Her Arc-V design was also chef's kiss 👌🏻

I want to show you my rankings of the main protagonists and what I think about them. #7 Yuga Ohdo- Compared to the other protagonists he just seems really boring and I feel the same way about Sevens. #6 Yuma Tsukamo- I really enjoyed his underdog story in the first half of Zexal and the second half really helped show us that it's okay for Yu-Gi-Oh heroes to be scared of these dangerous opponents. #5 Yuya Sakaki- The duel style he used was really entertaining to watch and the emotional journey he went through made him feel really sympathetic #4 Yusei Fudo- This guy was one of the coolest protagonists I have ever seen an epic brave warrior that is always ready to lead the charge. # 3 Jaden Yuki- The Hero deck he used was probably one of the most amazing in the franchise and his personality just made him even cooler # 2 Yusaku Fujiki- The mystery surrounding his past and the epic battle he was fighting in a virtual world was just incredible # 1 Yugi/ Atem- The one that stated it all and a protagonist that everyone wants to watch from beginning to end his adventure will always be an important part of Yu-Gi-Oh history

Ngl I'm currently watching Zexal for the first time and I genuinely cant watch more then two episodes in a row bc of the sheer accumulation of annoyance that Yuma AND Tori manage to convey 💀😅

I would say that from all the yugioh main girls, by FAR, romin and yuamu are the 2 best ones, and its not based on opinion, but actual facts. Both are very good duelists, have good development and interactions with the main cast and side characters. Cant really pick whos the best between both since go rush hasnt ended, and yuamu is still VERY involved in these last arcs... Most of the other girls did nothing other than just be moral support at best. Alexis being one of the worst ones at that, she had 2 animes worth of appearences, and she barelly did anything in those, in gx she had a whole plot about finding/saving her brother, but in the end the one who solved that plot was jaden, and the fusion arc in arc v was rushed, so she barelly had any screen time. Out of all the old yugioh girls, akiza is the best one, since not only was she a great duelist, she had a good plot in both seasons, even if she wasnt well developed in the 2nd, at least they gave her a conclusion to her story.

I cannot defend Aoi as Number one because of how Shin Yoshida treated her character and it was terrible treatment that you cannot ignore at all! I will not defend that nor accept that.
