You just subscribed to my channel so I came here out of curiosity. And I was not disappointed. As a kid I would stay in Chesterfield with my grandparents and often go to the market. This was back in the early 70s so memories are pretty vague and I do not remember most of the buildings. I do however remember the railways station and the nearby Trebor Sweet Factory - you could smell the sweet smell if the wind was in the right direction. Also have many fond memories of Queen’s Park and even have some photos stashed away somewhere. I think the bridge you walked on when entering the park was there and remember walking on it. The mini railway was also quite new I think and I was an early passenger. I spent my early years in Pleasley and have more memories of that area and nearby Mansfield although no doubt it has changed since we moved away in 1979. Last time I was in Chesterfield would have been late 1986, just before I left the UK. Thanks for the video - it’s rare that people appreciate such history and good to see so many of the old buildings and streets still surviving in some shape or form. I’ll be taking a look at some of your other videos when I have time as there are a few familiar names in the list!

Look at trekking exploration Ant has done two videos lately one is the track fromArnold to Sneinton and the second one was the old colwich road which is still there from colwich park to the end of the racecourse as colwich loop road was where the train ran. Two fascinating videos to watch.

Towards the end of the video, before the dragon, there used to be a blue-brick railway bridge running along where Marham close is now. We used to 'play' on that bridge in the 1980s

Went here the other day, didn't see any tents though, apparently there's an entrance to a mine or cave in there somewhere, didn't see that either so might have to take another trip. Interesting place, great video, nice to hook up with you on FB. Keep on exploring👍

Neptune's hut has now been taken apart by the nature reserve staff. I went to find it last week (May 2024) and all that's left is some railway sleepers. I later found out they did it in March 2024 and claimed the roof had collapsed? but it looked strong in your video!

Great video. If you were looking for old buildings you should have gone to the Shambles which is near the market you were at. It's the oldest part of town, you would have loved it there

The old houses near the Alfred east gallery was a hospital in the 1600’s! Sir Alfred East is buried in the London Road cemetery where you were earlier in the video, not far from where Charles Wicksteed is buried,

You’ve got so many things wrong there, I’ve lived in Kettering all my life so why say all these things when they aren’t the truth. The large cemetery is London Road cemetery, and there is a hell of a lot more that went on with that place and it’s graves, which are a lot are just head stones not graves, because they were moved from another area in the town

Comments 1 Add a comment… The Dynamo House cafe opens a little earlier for the park runners & park walkers, so around 9am or just after for serving Teas, Coffees, Cold soft drinks and yummy volunteer baked cakes, there is also a fair sized toilet/ baby change facility and It's open most Saturdays and bank holiday Mondays. The winding engine house runs free volunteer led tours on a Saturdays usually 10am - 12pm.

They do cadets where that tank was

Before the nursing home was the bowling greens for the miners welfare. Miners welfare is were you walked by the demolushed building. With a car park either side. and all the surrounding houses are old pit worker houses... the summit pit canteen building was also the Pit Head Baths, showers and changing rooms..
