Believe it or not, the J2ME version was the first time I've ever played the original Sonic The Hedgehog. I think I played sonic advance on the gba before that though. Distinctly remember sitting in my moms huge bed playing on her phone while an equally large feeling TV was playing Hannah Montana. We were also eating chex mix which was crazy tasty to little old me. Damn dude this was supposed to be a video about shitty sonic ports.

The Sonic Mania + on Netflix is actually pretty good, runs like butter on my phone, base game is the same thing like I cannot make this up they're THE same, only real issue I get are the special stages being hell to control on a touchscreen.

What about Sonic 3d Blast? That is actually an interesting discussion.

The game com version of sonic 2 and 3 and k are the worst

completely naked, covered in honey, in a forest full of driver ants, blindfolded, in an iron maiden, with your nipples super glued together. this is the only way to get the true sonic experience.

Cool video but I think the awfulness of SA2's PC port was really understated lol Back when it came out it could very well been considered the worst PC port SEGA had ever put out, just so severely unstable (thing crashed CONSTANTLY), and even nowadays while it's way more stable it still crashes a lot without mods, and that's not mentioning the random pop-ups or how hard it is to close or issues with gamepads, it's really funny. And that's not even going into the issues that Battle introduced that aren't just graphical issues in the cutscenes. The game controls a LOT better in the Dreamcast version due to the analog deadzone being increased in the Battle ports (with rail grinding and the mechs in particular just being completely butchered) and only recently (last week or so) did a mod for the PC port release that fixes it lol

The worst version of Sonic 3 is probably the one on the DS collection. The framerate is horrendous, and the special stages are borderline unplayable.

I genuinely love playing SA1 in the canonical unfun way, I play as sonic until I unlock Tails then return to Sonic, when Tails gets saved,then play Sonic until you meet Knuckles, then play Knuckles playthrough till you fight Sonic, then go unlock Amy with Sonic, go play Amy and then Unlock Big and rinse and repeat & again with Gamma and finish the story off Super obviously. Extremely convoluted but its funny seeing the scenes basically back to back

Sonic Adventure's dozens of ports that continuously break the game more and more make me so sad. As someone who's played the original on her Dreamcast on a CRT, it's a STUNNING looking video game for 1998/99 and still feels great to play.

Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure 2 has a nasty bug in some copy, the final level has a bug where the level doesn't load in Eggman section which cause him to fall to his death which keeps repeating til you ran out of lives making this level unbeatable that you just can't beat the game

I played in 2004 the first Sonic on a Motorola Razr V3, it was awful

How do you "pardon my language" fuck up a port of sonic mania on Mobile?! The homebrew scene has got the game running on the wii-u and dreamcast! Oh yeah and I just looked to even play the game you have to be subscribed to Netflix!

I dunno if it was just my experience or if other people went through this too, but playing Sonic Heroes on the PS2, the save and load system just straight up refused to work, even on an empty memory card. And I'd refuse to believe one save file of Sonic Heroes needs more space than multiple save files of Kingdom Hearts 1, 2 and Chain of Memories.

Gonna have to disagree with your assessment on Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I'd say the DS collection honestly. Namely because of how the special stages randomly flicker.

Also worth noting The 360 versions of Generations and Unleashed are playable through Xbox One X and Series X in 4K and boosted framerate While the PS3 versions are stuck on PS3 with all there faults

SA2 is clearly the best sonic game because it doesn’t have a worst way to play it

for sa2 i feel pc port of battle would be the worst possible version, as i'm fairly sure its the only version of the game where sega screwed up the analogue deadzones which makes precise turning, and especially grinding more difficult

I gotta say, I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that the modern SADX ports don't have widescreen and the ugliest screen borders out there. Like PC is clearly the worst, because at least it runs well on consoles (generally the performance has only gotten better with each release,) but the lack of widescreen was one of the biggest complaints back when it launched lol

Sonic 1 GBA was really bad to the point where a guy had to come in with a proof of concept homebrew port to show that it's possible to have game run smoothly and optimized. And the rest was "history" when 2017 came.

I had to lower the volume for the first suggestion for the worst Sonic 1 version. That was complete ear rape.

i did not realize adventure dx was so much worse than the other versions of that game, getting that on Xbox 360 was my first exposure to it and it's still one of my favorite Sonic games out of any of them, i kind of want to try finding some other versions of that game too go through eventually now

It's still really nice how we have a lot of these modern ports in the first place. Sure some of them aren't the best, but it's really nice of Sega to preserve these games to some extent.

SA2 on Steam has some other issues like the trolley at the middle of City Escape getting clipped in the camera and blocking your view so I’m gonna vote for that as the worst version

nah sonic genesis on gba should be the worst version of sonic 1 that ""port"" is more of a direct affront to god that the j2me version
