I honestly think yumi should be the best lyoko fighter given her martial arts background. She literally has the coolest powers and weapons, with telekinesis and those fans she shouldn’t miss any targets. It sucks that they make her miss most of her targets, gets eliminated easily and needs saving from the boys and this “save the girl trope” is very evident as odd and Ulrich don’t have those instances as much as yumi and aelita. Yumi is literally my favorite in and out of lyoko 😫 I wanted more for her

Maggie and Phoebe are the most powerful sisters

She was the most ambitious character in terms of ideas and I feel like that was what held her back in season 1. She was only given one fan initially to make it easier to keep track of, but as a result that nerfed her attack potential, and her fan is more of an intricate design that has to behave like a boomerang disc and clank with objects, then return to either her hand to catch (more animation requirement) or land somewhere leaving her unarmed. Compare that to a melee item of sword or the tiny triangles of laser arrows and it makes sense why animators on a low budget wouldn’t utilize her to her full potential when considering animation. Her power was telekinesis, which is fairly easy to animate but it does have to look natural as though objects are being pulled from or dropped onto locations. Compare that to Ulrich’s triplicate which is just copying his model a couple times or Odd’s psychic visions which are just a way to reuse scenes with a filter on them and it’s still probably the more annoying and costly one to animate. Her movement skill was acrobatics, which have to look fluid and natural in animation like a person would perform them, and additionally have to look skilled and graceful in how she moves to emphasize it. Compare that to Ulrich just going fast in a burst of yellow or Odd acting like a cat and again it would probably be the most annoying one to animate. When their budget went up we got to see her more realized as what I think she was always imagined to be. She got a second fan and we saw much more acrobatics and combinations of her arsenal (spinning around with her fans to block lasers, using telekinesis with her fans for trick plays, etc).

I always liked Yumi but I feel she would have done _much_ better most of the time if she focused more on dodging or defending instead of flipping around.

Yumi has a very creative weapon, agility and telekinesis, yet the writters insist on giving Ulrich and Odd a better treatment. Yumi deserves better

I find it Interesting how Yumj only uses one fan in the first season compared to season 2 were she uses tow instead.
