      Hi Scott, I am not sure if dcc sound did the sound file for IDR, I had a decoder already that I going to use, in a steam era models derm I was building and mike let me transfer it to the IDR model. The sound file is a bit different as it has a short horn, station whistle etc. I think the biggest difference is the speaker,it makes a lot of difference, I had to turn it down ,to less than half and the sound is clearer. My other Derm, I will just fit the speaker. The lighting, it just looked odd ,with lighting up front ,but none in the carriage, I had everything already to do it, apart from the decoder which was $37. @@1johnmcwilliams at our railway club of the 5 in the club 1 wouldn't run because wiring was too tight so couldn't fit the plug from tender to engine without disassembling loco to pull more wiring through but it then left some wires very tight when refitting body and 2 had very noisy gear trains in the mechanism and the last 2 locked up with in a couple of metres and are going back to Ixion via the stores they were bought from. glad yours runs okay now though. Good video, some nice camera work! I also have one fitted with dcc and sound from dccsound, great sound project. But the mechanism in mine makes a lot of noise when running at medium speeds just wondering if yours had the same issue? In your video you are only running slowly, the problem is at higher speeds. The ultra bright lights can be improved by using the ‘dim’ function at F13, and to make more realistic colour can be painted with Tamiya X26 orange clear paint.

    • @1johnmcwilliams
      @1johnmcwilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dean, yes mine was very noisy and when I first got it ,the mechanism was louder than the sound decoder. I got onto Ixion and they recommended lubricating the mechanism. I followed their instructions and the loco is a lot quieter now, it does still have some noise. I have adjusted the lighting on my lokprogrammer since making the video and I had already applied some clear orange to the light lenses. It is still a very good loco, it is very smooth at low speeds .Sure I had some issues with loco ,but I am very happy with it now. Thank you for watching my video ,Cheers John.

      @deanbrookes2609 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine didn’t get quieter after lubrication and further run in and went back to Ixion. It was replaced and the new one is very quiet. Ixion have had a few noisy ones and I understand that they suspect there was a batch of faulty motors, which cause an imbalance although they run quite well. Ixion are using my original one to try to isolate the issue.

      Hi Brett, Yes I changed a fair few things with my Lokprgrammer. I removed the auto brake feature. I unticked the moment button in f6 . I set cv2-3,cv3-20,cv4-40,cv5-120,cv6-40.I replaced the speaker with a Y Class dual speaker from DCC SOUND. I set the voltage to 14v ,in the motor setting page. The cv's you can adjust with your dcc system ,but the other things you need a Lokprogrammer. Hopes this helps. Cheers John.

      @@1johnmcwilliams Thanks for your reply John. Very new to DCC, I will play around with the CV's that you mentioned. Nice sound from that upgraded speaker. Cheers Brett

    Nice video John and nice sound instlation too i would like to get one of those but they don't fit my moddeling era and they are reasonably priced too at $295 for a DCC ready model.- Nicholas.

      Hi Nicholas, thank you for your comment. Yes out of my era also, i try model the 1980's in Victoria. It is a nice running locomotive. It was hard to find a suitable sound file on the Esu website. Cheers John

      Hi Nicholas ,thank you for your nice comment. The Auscision X class are a great loco, there are still for sale. The Austrains cement wagons are great also. Cheers John.

    This is very impressive. So is this essentially the same speaker and sound set that come with the DCC fitted SDS NRs? Is it very hard / complicated to install this yourself?

    • @1johnmcwilliams
      @1johnmcwilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Did you mean the Auscision NR CLASS ? I have a different sound file from a company called DCC SOUND(same decoder) and my speaker is from there also (much bigger than the Auscision speaker). No it is not difficult to install ,but if it is your first sound install ,I would not try it. There are plenty of guys around that would do it for you. The loco is very fragile! Hope this helps you, Cheers John

      @@1johnmcwilliams Oh cool. Thank you! I won’t try messing around! No, I meant the SDS NR because the factory fitted DCC they have comes from DCC Sound so I wondered if it was the same one.

    I can't wait to have my Auscision NR class. I've already made payment for indigenous liveried one.

    • @1johnmcwilliams
      @1johnmcwilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for comment. The Auscision version will be a lot more tinnier ? They use much smaller speakers. The sound is probably not too bad, but a dcc sound speaker or similar would make a huge difference. Cheers John.

      @@1johnmcwilliams Oh right, I see. The new NRs I’ve heard sound okay. Is it hard to replace the speakers to improve the sound?

    • @1johnmcwilliams
      @1johnmcwilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FromtheWindowSeat No it is not hard, but depends on a persons ability. Be very careful handing the loco, it is very fragile, parts fall off very easy. Some people will happy with the auscision as it is. It just my personal opinion it sounds better with the larger speaker. It would be best to hear the loco's in person,maybe you have a train club nearby? Cheers John

    Hi John, are all the chassis the same despite the livery? ie can the top of a DC loco be swapped out and placed onto the chassis of a DCC loco without impacting the full look of the livery? I understand that the lighting leads need to be placed on the DCC ports

    • @1johnmcwilliams
      @1johnmcwilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew , I would say all the NR class loco's are the same. DCC and DC loco's have the same circuit board ,just the DC version has a 21 pin plug instead of a decoder. Yes ,the 2 ditch light leads need to be moved and also the main lighting lead. If you go to the Auscision NR class locomotive page ,it has all the information there. I hope I was some help to you. Cheers John.
