Clavers
Kenya
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 ก.ย. 2015
I'm Clavers Odhiambo, a Kenyan fine artist specializing in oil painting since 2014. On often large canvases I create life-like paintings of an array of subjects, with human figures featuring the most. Follow along as I open a window into the world of oil painting by sharing my methods, thought processes and all the delicate work that goes into creating realistic art.
The Mountain Calls: Torn, Crumpled & Charred.
In this oil painting of a 100yr old photograph that has seen better days, a Kikuyu warrior proudly regards Mt.Kenya on a quiet afternoon. Watch as I narrate my process of creating this challenging yet exciting monochrome.

Great piece
Hello, Clavers! Every painting should have some type of meaning behind a great painter with a meaningful painting. This is a beautiful painting! In one of your videos you discussed or explain the five shades of colors and you mentioned the five shades of colors in this video. I said to myself that I will need to practice the five shades of colors. I noticed the different types of brushes that you use to smooth out the painting (small round brush and a medium round brush). I'm going to practice doing that as well (that's neat). You are a great teacher! 🙏🏾❤️🖌️🎨
Wow, thanks Sharon, and good to know you'll be trying out my methods as well :) For the smoothing effect, old/used flat brushes do it best (or rather brushes that used to be flat when they were new). Round brushes can so it too, but they typically have pointed/tipped bristles which you kinda have to work around. Anyway, enjoy!
@@ClaversOdhiambo Good morning, Clavers! Thank you for the information. I don't know how to paint people, but one day I will try. The smooth techniques is what I need to get down first and the five shades of colors. Thank you! 🙏🏾❤️🎨🖌️
Wow
Potent message
Great painting. I just started using the "lazy grid" method myself. I used to hate the grid to tracing process now I love it! The game of trying to get things as precise as possible is just that, a game worth playing for me. Have fun with it and glad your painting has a voice in reference to the protests. Glad you made it work without physical/live references and posing.
Thanks. Yeah there are many ways to nail proportions but I find that the grid comes in handy more and more the bigger the painting gets.
Nice
Powerful is an understatement.
Thanks man :)
I love the storytelling behind the piece. I was specifically impressed that you pulled pieces from different sources sort of making it a collage. I could say much more but damn🔥🔥🔥 kazi safi sana
Shukran sana; it was an exciting challenge
Bravo 👏👏
Thanks Gregor :)
Art comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable… nice piece 🙌🏾 inspirational

Thank you :) glad it was helpful.
💯
Beautiful as always!
She is, right? 😊
Amazing work!
Thank you! 😊👍🏽
Thank you!!
Great work. Could you please make a video on " a normal day as a full time artist" like what is ur daily routine
Thanks. "A normal day as Clavers Odhiambo" would make more sense since I'd only be speaking of my routine. It's unlikely that I'll do that though; not really interested in recording myself making coffee or walking around the house lol.
@@ClaversOdhiambo😆 oh, ok, I get it .
You use oil to outline then do an acrylic underpainting. Don't you worry that this will react and undermine your final painting's longevity?
Really good question. This would be a risk if the outlines were laid in thick or as impastos, except I thin them incredibly (mix the paint with a lot of solvent) so the outline barely counts as a layer. This way they don't impede those parts of acrylic that'll go over them from sticking to the canvas the way they're meant to so...no risk of future peeling or air bubbles/pockets while painting (only possible demerits I can think of rn.)
Good morning, Clavers! Thank you for clarifying the process of how to use solvent oil on your paintings, and answering other questions as well. These were some great questions with some great answers. "If you don't know than ask the question(s)". I have truly enjoyed learning from the basics of painting to some questions that I didn't know the answers to. You are a GREAT TEACHER! Again, thank you for the Q & A! Have a great day! 🎨🖌️❤️
Thanks for your kind words and...you're most welcome :) have a good day as well.
Thank you for sharing the Q&A I learned some new things. Thank you for that. Also, you are now my official teacher and guide. Please keep the content coming.
What an honor lol thank you! More to come for sure
Hello, Clavers! I just love how you give great details of what you are doing, and your paintings are beautiful! Clavers, do you use the solvent oil with oil paint or with the acrylic paint? Or can you use the solvent oil with both oil and acrylic paint? Beautiful painting! 🖌
Thanks Sharon 😊and for the good questions too. I answer them in detail here th-cam.com/video/HYxDomTJe6w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wjo71H5x_nK-eJwU
@@ClaversOdhiambo Hello, Clavers! I will watch the video later today, and thank you for answering the questions. After I finish watching the video I will respond. Have a great day! 🎨🖌️
Plus, black is an indestructible skin, which means your paintings are unique 👌 nice 💣💣💣
..if only lol. Thanks a lot!
Outstanding masterpiece, the black one 😎 pop some smoke 🚬
Masterful!
Awesome ❤❤❤ 😊
Its turned out great
Thanks :)
Is your first layer oil or acrylic paint
Acrylic, for this artwork. Oil painting begins at 3:14
So beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you :)
How many days do you typically wait in between first oli layer and the second detail layer?
Provided I didn't use any pure white in the first layer (since in my experience it dries slower than any other color), a day or two is usually just enough time to proceed to the final layer.
Thank you! I’m going ask more questions through time. I appreciate your help friend.
No worries@@zaynhersi4339 I've also explained it in detail here th-cam.com/video/HYxDomTJe6w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DcDSo5O_CJlJp9ke
I like the way you paint, the way you structure, and explain what is your process and why you do it.❤️🔥exquisite
Oh thank you :) quite a lot of work goes into these so...this is always good to hear.
I proudly display this painting in my home. Clavers did amazing work and my ex-gf did a great job of communicating my vision.
Always a pleasure :)
This is such a masterpiece! Love to see the full process. I find the acrylic under painting really interesting because your under painting process is my finished product lol. This video inspires me to venture out and grow as an artist☺️
Haha...that's good to hear. Although to be fair the grisaille can very well be a finished piece on its own; that just depends on your style and what the type of paint you use can allow. I, for instance, can't go much beyond that level of detailing with acrylics and that's why for the stages that follow I switch to oils.
Hi Clevers....I pretty much appreciate you for having shared this video..I have learned a lot..You are so organized in your everything...May God continue to bless the works of your hands!
Thanks a lot and glad it was helpful :)
