Jungle Book Trails Episode 1 The Beginning
Thanks for checking in today! This is the First episode of an ongoing series documenting my new trail build in my backyard. The aim is to outline and then develop some fun home made trails for myself, friends and my Grandkids to ride on.
Today is an over view and walkthrough of the beginning process and some thoughts for what this could be. I'm really excited to share this with you and take you all on my trail building journey. I'd appreciate your thought and ideas for how I can make the most of what is available to me. Elevation is limited and resources are restricted to what is. on the ground and a few boxes of 3" decking screws. So away we go!!
If you'd like to help support this endeavor, check out the gear list below if you're looking for any top quality gear. If you make a purchase I may receive a small commission from the sale.
BELOW is a list of the items I mentioned in many of my videos. I've tried to include additional options for you, I know how much we all like to create our own look when it comes to our gear. Let me know if I missed anything, I'll do an update to this video for winter riding soon.
Be sure to check back regularly for more episodes.

    Hey, that’s awesome to hear!! San Lee is a great ride all around. Check out the trail system on Trail Forks if you need an overview. If you are avoiding sketchy sections then watch out for Freefall and anything that says Rockness. Definitely check out the Gravity Park. The new “beginner “ loop is a lot of fun. Also Charlie’s Climb is a great climb trail you can run either direction. Have a blast and let me know how it goes. By the way, next Saturday the 26th we are hosting the San Lee Trailfest at San Lee. It’s an amazing event filled with great people and lots of group rides and demos available from REEB Cycles and Niner. Hope to see you there. Be sure to stop by say hi at the REEB Tent.

      Hey, Sorry for the delayed response. Awesome time of the year to get into MTB. If you’ve ridden San Lee a few time by now, you’ve discovered it is pretty awesome. Most of San Lee is rideable by riders of any level. Depending on your comfort level with San Lee, you might want to check out Harris Lake in New Hill, NC. It is mostly a XC focused trail system with some fun bits scattered throughout the trail system. You can definitely build your confidence riding there as well as build up some endurance. I hope you are enjoying your new sport and best of luck!!

    I'm glad you mentioned that about the right of way because you are right we have it backwards...it much safer and easier for the uphill person to yield.... especially as the trail gets steeper. Not to mention you ruin the other person's downhill. It is one of the dumbest "rules" of the trail and however it got accepted as trail etiquette....who knows

    Steve - I have a RIPMO AF and I am strongly considering the standard LEVO because I heard it has more power than the LEVO SL (90 nm vs 55 nm). Have you tried the standard LEVO and if so which do you prefer?

    • @SAMTB
      @SAMTB ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I ride the Ripmo AF as well. I’ve ridden the Levo and it “feels “ bigger, probably because it is a lot heavier. I like the SL because it’s a lot lighter and the battery capacity is so close with the bonus battery attached

  • @gustisk8
    @gustisk8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a ripmo AF and if u are more enduro guy or bike park guy the travel of the bike isnt good any way, i have cascade link and 5 tokens in rear shock and i use full rear travel in every descent its a real good TRAIL bike not enduro bike

    • @SAMTB
      @SAMTB ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gus, If your blowing through your travel and having to add that many tokens in the DVO Diamond or Onyx, Something is wrong with your set up. I ride Pisgah, Arizona, New Mexico and I don’t have a problem with the suspension. I had it set up and tuned at Squatch Bikes and it rides great. Have your bike mechanic take a look at your set up. If you’re not over 250 lbs. you shouldn’t have a problem.

I went to Outerbike in Bentonville last year and learned so much! I got to ride Canyon, Nukeproof, Kona, Banshee, Propain, Ibis, Specialized all in one weekend. I could have test out more bikes but I was literally too tired by around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. :) Highly recommend.

    Interesting tire journey. Cool to hear your thoughts on all this. Question for you ... I'm in Colorado and have Specialized tires - 29x2.6 Butcher in the front and 29x2.6 Eliminator in the rear. And that works great for me here. However, we're planning on moving to the Raleigh area in the spring. Will those tires be suitable or do you think I'll need to change it up?

    • @SAMTB
      @SAMTB ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I’d say your tires will be fine. It’s a different kind of ride here. For you, it will seem really flat. You may switch up to a xc or lite trail tire. The Raleigh area, referred to as the Triangle has some pretty diverse terrain. You’ll always have roots no matter where you ride around here but some areas have a lot more rocks and others have almost no rocks. We also have a lot of bandit trails that tent to have a lot of wood features. Hit me up when you get here. Maybe we can get in a few of my favorite trails

    Good info, but W-w-w-w-wait...an Evoc hydration pro hip pack for $50? I most DEFINITELY need the link for that. Additionally, as someone who's only a year in to mountain biking, with no previous transferable experience such as BMX, road cycling, motocross etc, I feel that the number 1 best acquisition that I've made so far, is lessons/coaching.

Also, check out any of the national events for lessons with active pro riders. I follow and have ridden with Jeff Lenosky over the past few years and his videos and in person training is the best I’ve ever experienced. • @badcompany1313
      @badcompany1313 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DW suspension design is supposed to be a very efficient pedaler. It should pedal better than bikes if similar travel, but a short travel might take the edge. I haven’t ridden one just going off of all I’ve researched, currently saving for my Ripmo af.

    • @SAMTB
      @SAMTB ปีที่แล้ว

      The IBIS Ripmo AF or carbon version are exceptional climbers. The combination of the DVO shock the SRAM Eagle gear ( I’ve upgraded to the GX cassette and GX AXS System on this bike) and the overall geometry have made this bike a bit of a legend in terms of climbing. To be honest, i think its awesome that the bike climbs great but the real magic happens when you point this bike downhill. I’ve ridden a number os bikes that would be considered a competitor to the Ripmo and I would say from my personal experience, none are quite as good as the Ripmo.

    No info really on how to attach the rack to the hitch. Maybe my rack didn’t come with the proper part? Can you elaborate and show a video of you attaching the rack to your hitch under the car???

    Brumley is by far my favorite. The rock gardens on Springhouse always get me though.

    The wheels leave much to be desired. Great value even with the brakes and wheels. Good platform to build on.

    I'm glad you did this review. Pleas comment as to whether it swayed or not once you started driving with it on the car.

      The rack is pretty solid on the back of my Tiguan and with the included adapter for larger hitch receivers. There is a screw instead of a hitch pin that seems to make a better connection with the hitch receiver. Unless I’m off road and the whole truck os bouncing back and forth, the bike and the carrier are solid. Hope this helps. By the way I’ve had the carrier for over 2 years now and no issues.
