ROOM ELEPHANTS: (1) Why is it so important to atheist's that others believe the way they do. That's a bit like the question about why it's so important for mentally ill drag queens to read stories to children. (2) Faith is so important (powerful and useful) that every drug must beat it. It's called the placebo effect. Even if peoples' beliefs or convictions were not true, it remains belief is a powerful tool. (3) Before any atheist undertakes to attack someone of faith [actual violence and such aside], he/she should be willing to, FIRST, talk about and address his or her many defects. Be it addictions, inability to save for his/he future, to avoid being a burden on others, and so on.

No. Evolution doesn't take millions of years, and plenty of people have seen it. Look at virus and bacteria for example, their short lifespans means that they can evolve quite dramatically under such a short timespan that one person can easily observe it. Larger organism, with longer lifespans and smaller litters, evolve in the same way, it just takes more time. But even evolution in larger organisms, such as mammals, is not down to blind faith: by studying fossils and DNA, as well as geographical distribution of different subspecies, their evolution can be mapped out and understood. Besides, it's far from true to say that the whole understanding of evolution sprang from Darwin. Various theories and ideas have tried to explain it far earlier, even from deeply religious people. In 394 the bishop Augustine of Hippo wrote that organisms was created in a state of potentiality, not perfect but changing where new species could me born from old ones. The priest Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) argued that nature was ever changing, and saw in that a proof of Gods greatness. In the year 1377 the muslim scholar Ibn Khaldun wrote a book called Muqaddimah where he not only explained that things like skin colour evolved due to climate, but also argued that man had evolved from apes. I think it all comes down to the fact that you can't read the Bible in the same way you read On the Origin of Species. To understand the theory of evolution, you need knowledge. You compare observable facts and draw logical conclusions. To believe in God, you need faith. You can believe in God, but you can never know that He exists.
