I grew up on Long Island and left in 1985 for Western NY. The only thing I miss are the beaches, which is why we own property in South Carolina. And oh yeah, the SC beaches are even nicer.

The racism out here is ridiculous. We moved from Brooklyn to deep end of Suffolk County for a better life for the children almost a year ago and we already want to move away. I could count with one hand how many black officers I've seen since moving out here, been pulled over unnecessarily many times for no reason and these white people out here are real arrogant. The realtors are just as prejudice and will show a potential home buyer of color the shitty areas and try to make it seem good while telling the white ones to stay away from those same areas!!!

I lived in Nassau county long Island for 17 years. Freeport and Hempstead NY. The property taxes are too high

Long island is a terrible place now. It’s fullllll of drugs and. Crime. I suggest moving off it asap. Far far to expensive as well you’ll always wish you left because your savings won’t be much in your later yrs.

I live on Long Island. Worst part is leaving. I make a comfortable livable wage to stay here. Nowhere else compares. I live in central Suffolk. From here east is beautiful. The feast is too congested. I dread driving west

I just found out today how far Long Island is from NYC, at the other end around a 2 hour drive. That is nowhere close! I can drive down to Olympia from Seattle in that time.

The worst part about living on Long Island is living on Long Island. Other than that, it's still terrible.

Grew up and lived in South Bellmore, South Merrick and North Bellmore some 30 years ago before moving out West. The traffic back then was getting out of hand. The housing prices and rent were out of control. Long Island is beautiful to visit but definitely not to live there.

Grew up on Long Island, in West Sayville. Then moved to Holbrook. Great places, but i moved out of NY to the Midwest. My rent in NY was 2440.00, if i wanted to stay i would've been paying 2880.00. i moved to Midwest and my rent for dame exact layout 2BR/2BA, 1350 sq ft, great schools, top floor apartment, hardwood floors, brand new appliances. ...880.00 per month. New York priced itself out of business. I was sad to leave but I am very happy now.

I have lived in Nassau and Suffolk Counties most of my life, but for the past 26 years have lived in Bayside, Queens. I think my area (called Oakland Gardens) is still affordable. We have express busses to the city, one goes up 3rd Ave and the other goes up 6th Ave. Its quiet, leafy, lots of parks nearby and I can hop on the LIE or NSP and go east at a moment's notice. I just came back from my local supermarket and saw some of my neighbors there, it's very much a neighborhood. I think my area is a good alternative for those who want the best of both worlds and I think our taxes are much lower here.

I was born and raised on Long Island, raised in Huntington Station. Had a house in Bellport. Sold and moved away in 2005 to Puerto Rico but now in Kansas, I miss Long Island very much.

Some of the lakes on long Island. Has been poisoned with dozens of 5 gallon buckets of pills . A lot of people are goings to get sick. Really really sick
