@@blazekcmo913 yeah it would be a long job by myself haha. Super grateful for my mates who could help me!
How do you young guys know how to do all this!
@@timesofyourlife1 bit of guessing, bit of googling, a lot of trial and error!
What coilovers you got?
Hey brother what are your thoughts on the t56 now after 2 years?
It’s been excellent! A very predictable and very nice mechanical feeling gearbox. It was a little bit noisy using ATF fluid during the break in, but using a slightly thicker oil now and it’s been great!
@@LifeofWings Thanks thats good to know
Very thankful for this video, as I’m planning to do this soon
thats a nice car man, and i really appreciate the effort you put into making this video. about to try the exact same thing with a kbd vertex kit and this has given me a bit to think about. if i see your car out in victoria im going to wave
Yo, i will buy a Soarer soon hoping within the next 5 years to get in manual. Then i would have a nice affordable JDM car
also i subscribed
For the aluminum uses scotch pad
Hey thankyou for this video, I just bought a '91 soarer and was wondering why I couldn't lock it from inside... I knew I was gonna get some lil things to fix like this... But you video is gonna put me on the right path!
I'm working on piecing together a manual swap for my Soarer, and this Supra pedal info is valuable. Much appreciated!
Annoying that the supra pedal didn’t work in the end but hopefully the vid helps others avoid the mistake. Good luck with your swap!
So the JZA80 brake pedal can't be used? Wonder why people say it does.
Yeah idk why people say it does but for $50 I was willing to try. Unfortunately I wasted my money…
@@LifeofWings Shame. I really don't want to cut the automatic brake pedal, but looks like I'll have to.
I love watching big burly men lift heavy objects
Best!
Thanks for the vid, informative! I was looking to paint mine for my 110 so this will come in handy. Would the torque specs be the same for the bolts if i was to use a prp dress up kit?
Thankyou! And might be worth an email to them to check, but I'd say it'd probably be the same. I believe the point of the low torque specs for the OEM bolts is not for the bolts themselves, but rather so you don't squish the rubber seals too flat as apparently that will cause leaks. Like if you torque them to OEM spec, the cam covers don't actually sit flush on top of the head, they're still slightly raised because of the rubber seal in between. Also, if you're reusing 20+ year old cam covers, not going too tight will help minimise risk of cracking of the tabs on the cam covers.
@LifeofWings yeah i may email them just to confirm. I don't wanna spend that much money on oem covers as i know they're expensive, but i also wanna make sure i don't crack them. Its a catch 22 haha
If you are wanting a 110 FMIC I got my greddy one from RHDjapan. Diggin the vids!
Thanks! I’ll be sure to check them out
cool cover, most ppl where i live drive the stock 110 with 1gfe engine very beautiful car
Did you run that fitment on stock brakes? Looking at similar but my uzz31 has ls400 brakes fitted
Yep, that was on the stock JZZ30 brakes which I think are smaller than the LS400 brakes. There is still quite a bit of brake clearance between the Kiwamis and the JZZ30 brakes, but I couldn't say if it would fit with LS400 brakes
Did u have rev limiter on?
That’s the factory rev limiter
I’ve got 18x9+38 xd9s all round on my 110. It’s quite low but I feel the fitment at the back is perfect (no rubbing and of course no guard rolling). Like the videos!
I know it's your daily but those wheels would pop with a bit more low! also there's a guy in brisbane selling full series 1 aero in white! ;)
Absolutely it does!! I slammed it the first time I put the wheels on and it looks super nice. Unfortunately, I had to lift the car as I couldn’t get out of my steep driveway… And thanks! I did see that QLD kit, just don’t have the funds at the moment!
Did you get a fine for driving the 1jz on P plates? I'm wondering if I'm going to have this issue as well.
Luckily I didn't for driving on P plates. At the time of this defect, the rule for P platers was, if the car was on club rego there were no restrictions as long as the engine was not modified. They've since changed the rule so even club reg cars are governed by the power to weight limit. Unfortunately, in Victoria, as soarer's are imports, VicRoads has no data on them for the power or weight so they're on the banned list just cause it's turbocharged. Which is a shame because I think the luxury 1JZ soarer model with the heavy electric seats just comes in under the power to weight limit... I did, however, cop a fine for the roll cage and Nardi steering wheel as "unapproved modifications"
@@LifeofWings Appreciate the reply, I guess I'll just have to play dumb until I can get an exemption or something 😂 I'm based in melb as well, hopefully I spot your soarer around one day :) I rate your build style a lot
@@trppa6157 Haha thanks and good luck to you! Just make sure you're ok with the risk if you get unlucky with a cop, I think it's 3 demerits for driving a banned vehicle
I've just bought one of these in Victoria as well :) Same colour and I've been considering those rims for a while now. Do you mind me asking what club rego you decided to go with in vic? I'm about to get mine done as well.
Nice man!! And yeah the kiwamis are real nice, although I think I would get different sizing if I were to do it again.. And sorry mate, as I am part of a small club run by my local mechanic, I'd prefer to try to avoid doxxing myself if I can help it haha
Yeah think you may have swapped the clutch and brake pedal by accident
Nah it turned out the "manual" brake pedal was actually just an automatic brake pedal that had been cut down! Which is why it wasn't aligned properly, but I bend it straight and now have no issues!
Just curious how much shipping was?
What’s the paint color if u don’t mind me asking ?
Toyota Royal Jade Pearl - 6M2. With some extra silver flake in the pearl coat
@@LifeofWings ❤️🔥 thanks
Hey mate, nice choice. I have a JZX110 up here in QLD. Starting slowly with the mods too. I've currently got Teins installed on mine from back in its Japan days. What are your thoughts on Shockworks?
Nice pickup! The Shockworks are amazing, couldn't recommend them enough! Because they ask you a lot of questions about how you want to use the car, the coils they set up for you are pretty much exactly what you ask for. Mine are set up perfect for a daily street driven car. Almost don't notice they're installed, but firm up real nicely for any spirited driving I do
@@LifeofWings thanks mate. Do you have any socials? Love to share content with you. Regarding the Teins, they are slightly tired and was looking for a replacement shortly. If the shockworks are good as you say, I’ll look into them. I will be doing some spirted driving and the occasional track/drift day. Funny I should stumble upon your page, you have the same varex style exhaust as mine!
@@sumeetkumar8026 I'm @lifeofwings20 on insta Yeah worth talking to them if you're in the market for new coils And nice! In all honesty, I might replace my varex at some point... doesn't work the best for me
Super glad you went for Shockworks mate, they are truly the best coilovers on the market in Aus and I absolutely loved my set in my Crown Estate. Very keen to get a set in my Chaser when funds permit.
Yeah, I'm super happy with them! I definitely get why people recommend spending the extra over BCs for them. Super comfortable when cruising and dailying them, yet excellent handling when you're ripping it!
dear, unnusual footage. would you like more views?!catch you later!;)
Love your videos. Very informative. What are the spring rates of the front and rear?
Thankyou!! And yeah, I realised whilst editing I forgot to mention spring rates. So the fronts are 20kg/mm and the rears are 12kg/mm
Thanks! I also love the pace of your videos. Very chill even after the sway bar link. I see MCA comfort pro are Front 16kg Rear 8kg. Do you find your shockworks are a bit stiff or you prefer this way? Maybe future proof for skid pan?
@@petrolhead9756 Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it! And I actually think I'm just in the perfect sweet spot for a daily drive. You almost don't notice you're not on stock suspension just cruising around, driving to work, etc. This might be because Shockworks apparently tune the dampers after talking with you so the coils will suit your needs. So the stiff springs might not be as stiff as say 20kg on BCs for example. The only time where you can notice the stiffness on the fronts is if you take a speed bump a bit too quick, and then it's a bit of a jolt. So you do have to go slower than normal over speedbumps, but otherwise I can't complain!
@Life of Wings Thanks for taking the time to reply in detail. That sounds perfect for a street car, potentially a little track use. I might give Shockworks a call in the new year and get the same set. Keen to see your new wheels video and find out if you need aftermarket upper camber arm since the car is lower now.
@@petrolhead9756 No problems! And yeah they're good to talk to and know a heap about suspension tuning. And me too! Wheels video should be coming pretty soon!
Love the idea of a T56 swap for my soarer too, is the gearing okay for the 4.1? Also is the KBD kit holding up good, I'm a bit scared but looks like a better deal than the 97+ stuff from jp
Yeah, it's a great gearbox and the double over drive is nice for cruising. I won't lie, the 4.1 is a little bit long, especially for making stock power. I've been thinking about changing to a 4.3 which I believe is a "bolt on" affair, when I get around to upgrading to an LSD. And yep, the KBD kit has been on for a year and a half now and has held up great! Car gets hot Aussie sun yet has no evidence of any "sagging" that some PU kits can get. Definitely happy with my choice to go KBD over the OEM 97+ kits or anything fibreglass
Driving clips needed to motivate me to finish my soarer !
Haha I'm sure you'll get there! And I'm waiting for the roads in Vic to recover from all this rain!! Pot holes everywhere
@@LifeofWings eventually I will. Ah right fair enough. Irish roads have potholes all year round unfortunately.
What master cylinder did ya use man?
I used a Wilwood compact master cylinder with a 3/4” bore
Mine seems be really noisy at lower rpm but after 2000 rpm silent, running the single disc mcleod. Did the same thing on the brake pedal bought a mk4 pedal didn't fit, bend and cut the auto pedal is probably the best option.
Yeah mine is a bit noisy around 1200-1600rpm but has gotten much better with using a 75W85 oil instead of the Dex III

Good job.
where are the mark 2 videos bro, i just recently bought a 03 mark 2, needs a crank shaft at the moment, but they are super nice
Are you using a manual ecu
Nah still on the auto ECU, but it just runs the motor now
Hello, I have the same gearbox in my soarer. we always lose the speed signal, do you have the same problem?
Nah I haven’t had that issue before. Poor wire connection maybe? Or faulty speed sensor?
@@LifeofWings my problem is we drive 30kmh and the signal goes to 0kmh
Did you wire it to the digital speedometer, and does it read mph or kmh? I’m wanting to buy an imported soarer however I’m seeing no solutions on how to make the digital dash read in mph instead of kmh
Yep, the control patch harness gets wired directly to the digital speedo and plugs in to the t56 magnum to get the speed output signal from that and then alters it so the digital speedo still works, And yes, being JDM the dash reads in kph. Technically you could alter the signal to make the speedo read in mph not kph as the control unit is fully customizable, but you would need to alter the t56 speed signal plug to be able to plug into the r154 or a340e. But the digital dash physically says km/h next to the number so not a perfect solution...
Hows the soarer project coming along? Looking forward for a grannas t56 review.
Not too bad, had a bit of a rough spot these last couple months. Solving a few issues some with the gearbox install and some "old car things". There will be a video on it and hopefully a bit of a review too
@@LifeofWings I’m trying to sort out the speedo calibration. Does yours work?
@@Existanceclan Took a little bit of playing around to get it right at first, but yeah mine works no problems
@@LifeofWings would you share your settings with me? I’m having troubles for it to read correctly. Mine instantly shoots up to 180.
@@Existanceclan yeah no worries I’ll have a look this weekend. Mine did that too when I first started. I think the soarer speedometer has quite different pulse counts to the A80’s but I’ll screenshot my settings and pass them on
Did you index the bellhousing?
It’s mostly not required for the Grannas Racing cast aluminium bells. They come machined and toleranced to 5/1000ths of an inch already so as long as the dowels on the block aren’t damaged, everything is already toleranced without indexing. Was a factor in my decision when choosing the Grannas bell instead of the quick time bell which does need indexing every time.
@@LifeofWings ahhh. Now he uses the quicktime. Do u feel like the clutch/trans is noisy?
@@isaiahchandra6396 So the clutch isn’t noisy which is pretty crazy as most high torque twin plates rattle super loud. In fact, I can’t recommend this clutch enough. For something that can hold 1000+Nm, it’s dead quiet and engages so smoothly and easily! The gearbox, however, does have the typical Tremec T56 “box of rocks” noise from the gears themselves when the engine is under load at low rpm. After about a week of driving you get used to it and learn to downshift earlier if you anticipate when the engine might come under load to get the rpm out of the “noisy” range. Worth noting, from my experience, it’s only noisy in second and third between 1500-2000 rpm. Overall the gearbox and clutch setup is still much quieter than other twin plates I’ve heard on R154 or V160 JZs…
Been waiting for another 110 episode. I have just recently imported one from Japan, hopefully get it this week.
HEY GREAT VIDEO! GOOD INFORMATION. I RECENTLY PURCHASE MY SOARER AND IT SHOULD BE ARRIVING TO US BY THE END OF THIS MONTH. I ALREADY HAVE A 2JZVVTINAT THAT IM BUILDING FOR IT.HOW MUCH WAS THE WHOLE R154 SWAP?DO YOU HAVE LINKS WHERE I CAN PURCHASE THIS PARTS. YOU SHOULD HAVE AN AFFLIATE LINKS IN YOUR DESCRIPTION. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MAN.!
Thanks mate! And very nice, that will be a nice build. So this kit was for a Tremec T56 not a R154 so it was a bit more expensive (but rated for a lot more torque). I got the kit from Grannas Racing (www.grannasracing.com). If you have a look, Joel Grannas can give you a personalised quote for a full swap kit depending on your setup and future goals with the car.
Firstly, the 1JZGTE that’s in your soarer is arguably an engine that has more character than the 2JZGE NA-T. 2nd, an R154 can be sourced for you though DriftHQ or DriftMotion here in the US.
bruh that old man was about to have a heart attack :o
