Helium (He), Neon (Ne), Argon (Ar), Krypton (Kr), Xenon (Xe), and Radon(Rn). General electronic configuration of these elements is ns2 np6. The outermost shell is completely filled, giving them little tendency to participate in chemical reactions, i.e. they are chemically inert and referred to as Inert gases. Various scientists, viz. Cavendish, Rayleigh, Ramsay, travers, Dorn gave their contributions in the discovery of these noble gases. In detail, history, discovery and occurrence of noble gases is discussed here.
