    A lot of folks have had quite rapid degredation of their LEV40 batteries in Mitsi Outlanders. Hello, I"m very interested in these packs to replace the batteries on my homemade electric car, th-cam.com/video/_uLH1N42sdg/w-d-xo.html . I need between 250 and 300 volts, and would like to have around 10KwH capacity, with up to 500A peak discharge, all of which seems very much in line with the specs of these cells, using between 72 and 80 of them in series, and they are available here in Europe from the mitsubishi PHEV's. However I have a question- how do they do without any cooling? They don't seem to have forced air or liquid cooling, or even air gaps for the air to go through. Don't they get very hot? Thanks for any insight you might have on this.

    • @robertgregory8964
      @robertgregory8964 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't know about the 40, but the LEV50N is max 300A continuous discharge and 50-100A max charge rate depending on temperature (even lower at extremes). They seem a bit weak for regenerative braking of a medium vehicle which typically needs 30kW. The Miev is a small and lightweight EV. PHEVs are engine assisted and don't need extreme battery power vs capacity, probably why the Outlander used LEV40. However, that car has battery problems that I suspect relates to the heavy vehicle regenerative braking requirements causing stress. Forced air cooling.

    • @gregoinc4987
      @gregoinc4987 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello apology for the late reply. The LEV50 can absolutely operate as a stand alone battery. You would obviously need to calculate how many LEV50 cells you might need to make 24 volts, or as close as possible. As with all Lithium Ion batteries, suitable configuration of the BMS is critical.

The nominal voltage of each LEV50 cell is approximately 3.7 volts, so you just need to do the maths on how many cells you would need in parallel to reach 24 volts, or as close as possible. As with all Lithium Ion batteries, suitable configuration of the BMS is critical. Recommend a good quality BMS to be safe.

I think it wouldn't do bad to insulate it with some shrink wrap, would avoid a few times dropping the tool onto the battery. I have used even electrical tape. @@TomichNaumich Hi again. We refer to the blue batteries as the LEV40 or LEV50 lithium ion cells. Where are you located, as I may know someone that could supply the individual cells.

    Thanks for the Video, Its a subject that I will have to look into in the years to come. Are these battery packs in good condition, or do they contain Dud cells? would they be fine to install in a vehicle? It was really nice to her an Australian accent on this subject.

      Hi and thanks for watching. I have not found an issue with any of the battery packs I have sourced. Which is probably due to me choosing the packs carefully, making sure they are from vehicles with low mileage and have not been damaged i.e. in accidents etc. The LEV40 and LEV50 are amazing lithium ion cells, and can be used for all kinds of projects.

      @@gregoinc4987 So is it possible to measure voltage right there on the salvage yard on the power terminals before opening the pack, so you don't buy a flood damaged or shorted battery?

    Hi, where did you acquire the imiev battery pack from? Also how much did it cost? I am looking at the cost of buying a newer replacement battery pack for my 2011 imiev. Thanks Paul

      Hi Paul, Great to hear from you. I source Mitsubishi LEV40 and LEV50 battery assemblies via international suppliers to import into Australia. The delay in my reply was due to me waiting for a response from one supplier for a late model Miev pack for you. Unfortunately there was no good news, with Miev packs rare at the moment. Price wise, the pack prices vary due to market demands, and can range anywhere from $3000 to $5000 imported into Australia. Regards, Mark
