11:58 I do like the hobbit trilogy don't get me wrong but the dwarves survive the most ridiculous shit imaginable from Thorin first of all not having his arm broken by azogs mace only carrying a piece of wood while eowyn got her arm broken by the witch kings flail while having an actual shield, To the dwarves surviving the goblin king falling on them and much much more. the dwarves are actual superhumans in the hobbit movies I straight up expect Spiderman to do some of the stunts they do and it clashes so hard with the more realistic fight scenes of the lord of the rings where for example boromir was knocked out a bit by getting flung into a wall in moria. That's my Biggest issue with the hobbit trilogy by far. But hey atleast there are fan edits where most if not all the ridiculous cgi stunts are removed
@@secondbestjojo1300 totally fair point - I appreciate you giving your opinion with actual examples to support it!
@@hobbricks_lego_man thanks I'm actually kinda surprised you understood what I as saying because I just noticed I miss typed alot of stuff so better fix that before I look like an idiot anyways I definitely agree with most of your points and I do think the movie's actually do improve on the book in some ways like the dwarves. They have so much more personality in the movies I recently heard an audiobook of the book and I don't think bofur even had 2 lines but in the movies he's actually my favorite dwarf and I feel like the one that's nicest to bilbo besides Balin.
I definitely disagree with some placements but Chamber at 1 deserves the highest level of respect
1:37:43 unironically more epic than the portals scene in endgame
Awesome review man, I am in no hurry to check out this show and can see why this season is frustrating to die hard Middle Earth fans. I'm far more hyped for War of The Rhohirum in December which could be a breath of fresh air!
Awesome review man, I agree love how Monsters At Work as a sequel refrences both Monsters Inc and Monsters University and the show was able to make compelling conflict even after Mike and Sully made the scare floor into the laugh floor and the new characters I instantly liked Val being my favourite she's so likeable. Season 2 is even better as that season got more daring and dramatic!
Accurate to how parents are nowadays just very careless good job Hollywood on capturing that😂🙏
22:08 what are you talking about? Yes its appropriate to use gollums theme when gollum is on screen. But thats not what he said, is it? Why use the ringwraith theme during thorins ’last stand’ moment?
@@mattiasandersson8693 I’m pretty sure the reason given for the usage of the Ringwraith theme in the Appendices is that they wanted something dark which fit the tone of the scene. I conceded in the video that it is an odd music choice, but my issue is that Cosmonaut uses that as a broad criticism of the score as a whole being unoriginal, which simply isn’t true. Me bringing up Gollum’s theme and the Rivendell theme are examples of Howard Shore reincorporating relevant leitmotifs. I also bring up Smaug’s theme and a few others to disprove his point about how the score exclusively reuses themes from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Awesome review man, this looks different from all the Warner Bros Lego movies but looks fresh and enjoyable. Glad you were able to get to the right showing. Shame not many people are likely to see this movie like Lego Movie 2 sadly bombed, the Lego Movie's in general deserve better. I will certainly check it out when it releases in my country in November!
Looking forward to your review my friend!
It’s definitely odd that Lego is so strict on what can and can’t be in sets, yet has such a mature movie in theaters (for Lego standards at least). Definitely an odd choice, but hey better than Lego Movie 3. Great video and analysis like always!
Thanks Jack! Always a pleasure to read your thoughts.
There are many things that I don’t like about this. So it’s easier to talk about the things that I liked cause it’s really small. I loved the Dwarves the relationship between Durin and his son Durin (Even though there should only be one Durin at a time cause of the Dwarven belief that Durin is the reincarnation of Durin the deathless) I loved seeing their struggles and also it was cool that the Balrog was there (even though he killed a Durin like 3,000 years before he was supposed to and in the wrong age.) but the best acting and story was with the dwarves. I love Tom being in it as a cool cameo but the basically took what happened to the hobbits in the fellowship of the ring and had happen to Gandalf (Who also isn’t supposed to be there and in the wrong age).
Agreed, the dwarf storyline was the highlight of the season for me. Although I think the conclusion to it was pretty clunky, it was the only plot I felt consistently invested in. I liked the musical element that Tom brought to the story, but his presence did just feel like another attempt at nostalgia bait due to how minimal a role he plays in the story. I don't know how else they could have written him though, since he is just supposed to be a neutral force so it wouldn't make sense for him to get actively involved in the conflict aside from setting Gandalf on his path.

It's only been a year, but it feels longer. So glad they finally released it on PS4 so people like us can play it!

A truly tragic ending.
Ill say this, the stuff my family and I are really digging is anything concerning Adar and the Orcs, Sauron and Celebrimbor, Durins Father storyline has been interesting, and finally to my surprise, Galadriel and some of the high elves stories have fascinating moments. Everything else is not compelling and or miandering.
Thanks for giving your opinion! I'll agree that the Sauron and Adar plotlines had some strong moments, episode 6 was probably my favourite of the season for that reason, since it mostly focuses on them. I just wish everything was held together with better writing, as is it feels like a massive waste.
@@hobbricks_lego_man Another bigger question is this. Are they trying to tie this into the Peter Jackson Middle Earth movies? Because that Balrog is identical to one that fights Grand Elf ( oh I'm sorry Gandalf) in Fellowship. Also when the queen gives Elendil the sword Narsil, that's the same one seen in the original trilogy. So are they trying to force this to be a prequel to those six movies or just inconsequential easter eggs?
@@Story2ScreenMovieReviewPodcast It's difficult to tell tbh, I don't think it's meant to be a prequel but they are relying heavily on iconography from Peter Jackson's films. Even reusing lines of dialogue like: "always follow your nose" or "many who live deserve death, and some that die deserve life." That seems like a major link to the LOTR trilogy, but they probably are just inconsequential easter eggs.
WAIT TOM BOMBADIL IS IN THIS??????????
Indeed he is, and he's a merry fellow.
If you want to be so disappointed, then watch it😁👍
@@Mr.Feanor I did lol. And even if I hadn't watched the finale episode, I think watching 7 episodes of an 8 episode season of television is a good metric to judge what the quality of the last episode will be. Unless episode 8 was somehow the greatest piece of television to ever grace the screen, I would have no reason to believe it was good based on the precedent set by the rest of the season. (now you could be saying not to watch the finale because I'll be disappointed, in which case I wasted my time refuting an argument that was only meant as a joke 😂)

Grace Davidson is a classical opera singer who sings a lot of Baroque and Medieval music. She sang Feast of Starlight on the Hobbit soundtrack too!
That's awesome, thanks for letting me know. I had no idea that she worked on the Hobbit films!
I agree 100%. Canon Thrawn is way superior to legends Thrawn. Everyone says that legends Thrawn is super smart and outsmarts the good guys every time, while I can't recall a single time in this trilogy (halfway through TLC as of writing) that Thrawn has actually really won against them using his brain. The main squad always get lucky and leave Thrawn in the dust. Extremely overhyped books
Agreed, Thrawn in canon almost always comes up with realistically smart counters to the heroes (this is even applicable to the Rebels TV show to some extent). In legends however, it feels like there is a lot of telling and little showing of his strategic abilities. We'll be told he's this massive threat to be feared, he can "tear down the republic from the inside out" but nothing we are shown ever really corroborates that narrative.
“Crosshair is a bad character and Hunter does not develop.” Sure! If you watched the show blind
Or if you put it on the TV while sitting in another room looking the other way with headphones on - that’s one of the only things I can think would lead to that interpretation of the show.
tears almost swell when you played the crosshair theme, its SO emotional and cathartic
One of the most underrated AND understated themes in Star Wars. Simplistic, yet incredibly powerful.

Aye bro im about a year late here 😂, so I am on the last chapter of Chaos rising. Should I be good returning to the first book now or should I follow another order now that I have ascendancy started? Also not sure if you have read any of the EU since this list but are there any additional books I should include? Ik i gotta read the hier to an empire trilogy but haven't got knowledge on EU books past that.
Apologies for the late response my friend! I think you're safe to jump back to the first Thrawn book after Chaos Rising, and then Alliances. I read Chaos Rising first and then the rest of the first trilogy (yet again that was because Greater Good and Lesser Evil weren't published at that time). It's really up to you, if you want to read them chronologically there's no harm in that, I just created this video to provide a fun and different order for people to experience the story. As far as legends is concerned, Heir to the Empire is the main one obviously, but I'd also recommend the Hand of Thrawn duology: Specter of the Past and Vision of the Future. Funnily enough Thrawn isn't actually in them, but the story is actually pretty cool (until the ending which kinda drops the ball IMO). I've also heard about Outbound Flight and Survivor's Quest being semi-Thrawn related - the former being a prequel to Heir to the Empire and the latter being a sequel to Hand of Thrawn - almost like the Ascendancy equivalent for the legends Thrawn character. There's honestly so much Star Wars reading material out there, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface lol. Anyway, sorry for the long-winded comment - hope this was informative!
I also found the trilogy overhyped. In general I don’t really like the Thrawn character. His intelligence borders on omnipotence where it seems like he knows everything and the reasons given for why he does seem contrived to me. Like bro just knows that instead of jumping into hyperspace Mara Jade is hiding behind a moon. Excuse me what? How?
That's a really good point. It's for the reasons you described that I far prefer the new canon Thrawn books, because he acts more like a real character. His intelligence in that series feels like reasonable anticipatory action against his opponents rather than an almost god-like ability to predict the future.
Btw I think it was Jangbricks who said this, but the modern Stormtrooper helmets look like the Stormtroopers from the Family Guy Star Wars specials and ever since I can't unsee it

I just realized at the 4:41 mark in this video, I concede to Cosmo being correct about Bilbo being taller than Balin - well, after rewatching the movie I realized that during the scene in question, Balin is sitting down and Bilbo is standing on a small step above him... so obviously he would appear taller than him. Right when I think I can give credit to Cosmo for getting something right, it turns out he's still wrong 🤦♂
Hi everyone! Just wanted to make a minor correction - in this video I say that past the Bad Batch's battle with the Clone operatives, we don't hear Crosshair's theme again. Well, some people in the comments have kindly informed me that this isn't the case - in the final track of the show called "I Am Ready" we can hear his theme twice. The first instance is around 13 seconds in, as Omega tells Hunter to "keep an eye on Wrecker and Crosshair," while she's gone. The second is towards the end of the credits at 2:25 in the track. The reason I didn't notice this is because of the unique instrumentation and the key that it is played in being different from anything else in the show. It's honestly quite beautiful, this is the Kiners' way of telling us musically that Crosshair has finally found peace. Even though we don't get to see him in the epilogue, his presence is still felt.
I would like to make a small amendment to something I said in this video - around 11 minutes in I say that Crosshair's music wasn't used in S2 E3 until the end of the episode. This is incorrect, after rewatching the show I noticed that his theme can be heard at the beginning of the episode during Crosshair's briefing with Rampart - you can find it at around 0:28 in this clip: th-cam.com/video/MBqj9vjgF3w/w-d-xo.html The reason I missed this is probably because I was mostly using the OST for reference while making this video, and this variation of the theme isn't included in the official soundtrack.
The thumbnail caught me off guard I spit out my coffee 😂😂 Great video yet again 👍. This show has always been about The Bad Batch finding purpose and... tbh this show is anti-war to the max. I'm so glad the show decided to have the whole rebellion thingy as a side plot and Hunter's not on board with it from the start, his sole purpose is to give his squad lives they deserve.
Thanks my friend! Always appreciate your positive comments and hearing your opinions on the show.
@@hobbricks_lego_man thanks ❤ oh and the clone rebellion thingy. Echo literally called it a 'small network of clones' most of them are within imperial ranks and their main goal during the time is to help their brothers who want to run away or in trouble because of the Empire not to defeat the empire. (They are not the Partisans, good lord💀) And I don't think Rex being there in the finale will be a ... Clone rebellion? It's like 3 of them. (I don't know if I'm wrong or not but he seems more respectful in his Ahsoka video. It's a legit criticism which you can agree or disagree with. But when it comes to TBB he seems biased)
@@silentvoice2776 Oh he's definitely biased against Bad Batch - in most videos he's far more charitable than he is in this one because he doesn't elaborate on anything he's saying here lol. And you're so right, most of Rex's clone network got wiped out halfway through the season, so if they called him in it would literally just be him, Gregor, and Howzer? Wow, what a huge amount of backup 😂
@@hobbricks_lego_man (My reply glitched 😭) EVEN IF they come flying in I'm sure they'll be shot down by a laser cannon to keep the stakes high! (Like "We're stuck here?" scene in Rogue one) Or Rex can summons a Rebellion fleet?? 😂 That too! And idk he doesn't use words like "nothingness, trash, stale, etc" in his Ahsoka video. He seems less aggressive. Myself, I enjoy Ahsoka because of the Kiners. Their score is the only reason I sit through the show. It's too good they can't keep doing this to me. Like you, this show left us pondering about the themes, subtexts and stuff! (That's the fun part. I enjoy discussing it with my friends) I've never felt this enthusiastic about analysing something since Arcane and I'm not saying that Sheev should like the show cuz it's not everyone's cup of tea and I respect that but BRO EASY. I love your take on Hunter and Crosshair. Especially Hunter! His subtle character development in my opinion did harm the audience because you have to think about it (I find it entertaining) Oh by the way I don't know if you are on Twitter or not and I'm not sure if you've seen the kiners tweet about 'I am ready'. Anyway I'll leave it here just in case 😊 x.com/KinerMusic/status/1793016825690968174?t=h4TNq6ffzk0SJWMgMykFMA&s=19
@@silentvoice2776 Totally agree with you, the score was the only thing about Ahsoka that I even remotely liked lol - and this show is by far the most fun I've had analyzing media in a while as well. I usually like Sheev's videos because they are objectively in-depth, applying reasonable logic and provably valid criticisms to the media in question (his Ahsoka or Clone Wars videos being great examples of this). This video just feels weird because he immediately admits to having little passion for the show and acts like making this video was an obligation he had, when it's like - no? You could've chosen not to make a video on the show you dislike, but instead you chose to make a 13 minute video claiming that you're correct and acting as if you are intellectually superior to the audience while failing to validate any of your points. As I said in the video - not a great look for the objectivity guy. P.S. I don't have Twitter and had not idea about the Kiner's post - so thanks for sharing that with me!
Great response! TH-cam recommended Sheev's video to me, but I didn't watch it because I try to avoid Star Wars negativity, especially in regards to The Bad Batch because I feel like there have been so much unfounded hate for the show over the past three years lol. The issue I have with arguments like Sheev's is that they seem to be based on the show the person wanted rather than what the show was trying to do. Unfortunately I think a lot of people went into the show with expectations for a Clone Wars continuation and never realized that the show called "The Bad Batch" would be about the Bad Batch haha. Then (especially during the first season) they would complain that a show about the batch trying to "find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy" actually does explore how different members of the batch deal with change and find their own paths in a post-war galaxy. What makes this show so meaningful to me is that it focuses how the characters handle change and a world where they don't have to be soldiers anymore, and I hate that a lot of people overlook this theme (and the other themes) of the show because it wasn't what they personally wanted from it. Also on your section about Crosshair's character not aligning with his Clone Wars characterization: I loved your analysis of his character and just wanted to say that what you said about how a core part of his character is that he takes things personally got me thinking. In the Clone Wars arc, a bit part of Crosshair's characterization is him taking things personally similarly to how he does in the Bad Batch. He cares only about the batch and doesn't give a shit about another clone (Echo) being a prisoner of war. He constantly antagonizes and starts fights the regs (iirc he does it much more than the other members of the batch), because he doesn't know/have a personal relationship with Rex, Jesse, Kix, and Echo. It's only after they rescue Echo and spend time fighting alongside him that makes Crosshair trust him and be willing to accept him into their very tight knit squad. So tbh through this lens I can kinda see this Crosshair also taking his brothers leaving him as an unforgivable and extremely personal betrayal that drastically changes where his loyalties lie (in the sense that the Empire replaces the batch in the #1 place of importance in Crosshair's life). Does The Clone Wars Crosshair seem like the type of guy to turn on his brothers for the Empire? In my opinion, still no, but like you said I also don't really care because The Clone Wars arc doesn't explore his character like The Bad Batch does, so I think it's reasonable to accept this slight incongruity in exchange for a more interesting and meaningful character. But anyways your analysis just made me think more about how The Clone Wars Crosshair might not be as different from The Bad Batch Crosshair as I had originally thought- at least when analyzing the "taking things personally" part of his character. Sorry for the long rant lmao. Love the video!
I appreciate your thoughtful and detailed comment! I agree that many people had false expectations of what this show was going to be, just because it has the same art-style and some characters carrying over from the Clone Wars didn't mean it would be the exact same story. I accepted from the beginning that it was going to be a spiritual continuation of the Clone Wars just from the POV of one particular group of characters, and I think I had a different experience with the show as a result of that. On a thematic level I think it did a great job of carrying on with the idea of free-will and the Clones' fight for individuality. Tbh I hadn't thought that much about how Crosshair's Clone Wars characterization may or may not align with how he's presented in the Bad Batch, since I don't have a particularly vivid memory of that arc from season 7. There's no denying that he was the most cold and actively antagonistic of the Bad Batchers (which is most likely why the writers of BB chose for him to be the one who turns on the squad). They clearly didn't ignore every aspect of his characterization either, as many have pointed out, his line: "I would've left him for dead too. Besides, he's just another reg," comes full circle when he chooses to try and save Mayday in season 2. Something else important to note that I forgot to mention in the video, is the reason Crosshair's actions in the Bad Batch seem more severe than in Clone Wars is because in the war they were mostly fighting droids, but under the thumb of the Empire they are being ordered to kill living beings. The rest of the squad immediately recognize this to be morally wrong when they are sent to execute a camp of innocent civilians, but Crosshair tells them to "finish the mission." The conflict between Crosshair and the Batch didn't get heated until it crossed a moral line that he simply didn't draw - it's arguable that due to his cold and severely unyielding personality, he didn't see a difference between sniping pieces of metal and real breathing people, most likely due to the fact that he was engineered not to make that distinction. When we reframe his character that way, the conflict between Crosshair and the squad wasn't so much to do with them suddenly not "following orders" and instead that they made a moral distinction he was either unwilling or even incapable of making. Anyway, thank you for the kind words - I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Just wanted to add onto what you said with my own thoughts.
Sheev just reflects the lost hope many people had coming into the show, thinking that this would be a CONTINUATION of the clone wars, culminating in a clone rebellion, but I think the writers made the difficult decision in S3 to ditch the political clone world they explored in S2 for a more focused story on the main characters, whom had been criticized numerous times for lack of depth and focus. I think it was a hard choice either way, give what fans may WANT to see, but sideline their OWN characters, or make the story they really wanted to make, but sideline some "overarching plot" (Even though Tantiss arguably is more overarching than the Senate stuff) I dislike the words "wasted potential". That always means "I didnt get the story I wanted". Its not critique on fair grounds
I just find it weird that he complains about this show not resolving the "clone rebellion" plot line while simultaneously acknowledging that it is clearly going to be continued in a future series, and then also says that he won't watch that show anyway because it's an ongoing story of "nothingness." He's just disproven his own point but proceeds to treat it as a criticism of this series despite knowing that wasn't the focus of the story.
Gotta love Sheev making huge overarching statements with little to no evidence. I think there are things you can criticize about the Bad Batch, but most if not all of what he said was unsubstantiated garbage. Great job debunking and expressing your opinions that are actually backed up with evidence!
Thanks man! I agree the Bad Batch is not above criticism, but all his arguments in the video are extremely faulty. Like - if he wanted to criticize the 3rd season for having filler, why not bring up the random Fennec/Ventress subplot that literally went nowhere and contributed little to the story, instead of the penultimate three episodes which are some of the most important when it comes to plot progression.
He sounds to me like just another one who never grasped why a show called 'The Bad Batch' is about... the Bad Batch, and not about, well, geopolitical developments. There's no shortage of those people for some reason. And the Bad Batch was by far the best Star Wars content we've had in years.
I absolutely agree, Bad Batch is up there as some of the best Star Wars storytelling we've ever received (Imo at least). Don't get why everyone was expecting an overarching clone rebellion plot line when that was never the focus of the show. That's not to say that the show isn't good when dealing with politics - S2 Ep 7 & 8 are a prime example of this, but the series was always going to be primarily about the title characters.
