Coffee Talk: Billy Caldwell and the Chicago Great Lakes Trail
My mom had four girls, and all 3 of my sisters loved them, i was the only daughter that never liked dolls which my mom never did either, i am now 64 and dolls still give me the creeps! I believe they are all haunted but some are more discreet and contain it better than some, they are all creepy if you ask me!
I’m a collector ❤
I don't find them creepy I find them extremely beautiful , I've dolls from Victorian times and other generations I composition dolls , most of them in mint condition as they were probably the only doll the child ever owned , my mum and her sisters have kept their child hood dolls as they are treasured items I collect dolls from all era's and vast collection of rare black dolls these dolls are extremely beautiful especially the ones with the ethnicily correct facial features and hair but I've noticed in this day and age very rarely will a child cherish a doll the way my mum's and my generation would , I go to car boot sales and thrift stores and come across dolls of this present time in these places , that are pricey when new ether Thier a mess or still in their boxes , most of the time I pick them up for practically nothing and restore them redressing them , and sell them on to another doll collector who will take care of it , the our generation dolls seem to be ones that turn up the most , when i come across the black versions i really go the extra mile on thier hair useing fabric conditioner ,ill spend hours braiding the hair and beading it or use pipe cleaners to curl the hair using hot water it's really effective , i learned such skills from local african settlers who have came to Ireland to work and make a new life for themselves , thier children seem to hold on to thier dolls as black dolls seem hard to find , most of the african ladies like to buy the dolls for the children it's amazing the hair styles they do for the dolls works of art and even beautiful costumes of Thier culture really astonishing I've really learned a lot from these ladies ,
IM THE ONE WHO WENT THERE ON A. FIELD TRIPPPPP!

This was my grandparent's home church!! they got married there in 1956 and been a huge part of that church since then. my mother and 2 uncles were baptized there as well as confirmed there. a couple of my cousins and I were also baptized there too. Good Shepherd is everything to my family including myself. So many wonderful memories.

I dont know why im scared of a porcelain dolls
I love the Tech History.
Super history lesson. Thanks
how are you?, love it-great ~ later. 🖖
What fun to learn something new about my old home town. :)
The antique dolls are actually bisque not porcelain. Most with composition bodies. Some of the dolls you have shown are from the 1930’s and 40’s and have composition heads which were less breakable than bisque. I find it annoying when people refer to antique dolls as creepy these were loved play dolls for children.
I love this Betamax and i have a betamax
Dolls are works of art. I don’t understand people who are afraid of them . Very strange!
This show can make a bar soaps seem creepy Seriously people are crazy these days back in the old days they play with dolls no problem.
My Dad bought one when it first came out. It was one big heavy beast! 👍
I enjoyed the video. On May 25th,1979, I was 21 years old and lived in Simi Valley, CA-a suburb of Los Angeles. I was home that afternoon, cleaning my house. I had the TV on for some background noise, and the regular program was interrupted by a “Special Report” American Airlines flight 191 from ORD to LAX crashed on take-off in Chicago. I never did finish cleaning my house because I couldn't take my eyes off the television. I watched the news about the crash for hours. It was devastating. I thought about it for days: all those poor souls on the plane, their families, and friends. Every year on May 25th @ about 1305 Pacific time, I have a moment of silence and say a little prayer to remember everyone on Flight 191, their families, friends, and all the emergency responders. I bought your book today. I can't wait to get it. ❤
Creepy? No!! So cute❤
Wow
Antique Dolls are not creepy.....they are beautiful works of art...... I am a collector and they are all so beautiful.
China dolls are only creepy in some bad movies.
Central vac is the best way to vacuum your home.
I think they're absolutely gorgeous! I'm a collector!
They're gorgeous 😍🥰
I remember when my father put indoor plumbing into my grandparents' old farmhouse next door, in about 1954 (not in Des Plaines). My grandfather kept the privy next to the tractor shed, because he felt ambiguous about the idea of bowel movements in the house. That privy, of course, had the Sears catalogs, at some times, corncobs at other times.
Found! Anna Delvey’s muse!
It’s not true that VCRs become obsolete since DVD players became common. These could play DVDs but couldn’t record TV programs. DVDs were a play only medium just like Laserdiscs or prerecorded video tapes.
Yes I only had one too as a child even though I grew up in the 90s
we had beta. popular in Philippines and Nigeria
I love porcelain dolls. I understand how most people find them creepy but I don't. Every doll was made and designed for everyone to enjoy and I've been collecting since 2021 and I currently have 17 dolls all of different heights, clothing aesthetics, different face molds too. I cherish these dolls and I wouldn't want anything to happen too them because of the joy they give me 💕
Amen
✨️🙏🏻💕
I found them beautiful and cute not creepy or Scary as someone who has Autism I don't judge dolls Appearances I been collecting for 7 years
Hi, I have autism to. I been collecting porcelain dolls because it makes me feel comfort because I’m very lonely and I I’m homeschooled and I don’t have any friends my dolls are my friends. They seemed all to have their own personalities and looks it can be very interesting. I’m currently 17. Yeah some people do you think they’re creepy like my mother
You need to do a walking tour of this cemetery. We did one from the Park Ridge perspective where the Maine South drama department was playing the citizens. My family and I really enjoyed it. Our family was and is from Des Plaines and most of them are in that cemetery.
Creepy
No
Grew up i Des Plaines. used to get burgers there when i was a kid.
This is such wonderful work.
Excellent thanks Phil
Love this! Simple and to the point! Im for sure using this video in my lesson on consumerism in the 1920s! Would love to see more videos like this describing what life was like back then. Love how you explained it and showed images to go with the topic. Thanks! A video on DP/ suburban development due to the RR would also be super cool! (Just sayin :D)
Thanks for the suggestion! It may be several weeks before we are able to produce it, but the train topic is a good one.
So interesting. I will save this & watch it again, soon.
We still have one today!
Philip, Interesting Historical piece about the Parlor Piano in the Des Plaines History Center Kinder House.
