3D Printer enclosure made from Ikea METOD wardrobe (similar to Ikea Platsa version) but 60cm (23 3/4") deep. Home build DIY - a professional looking 3D enclosure for less than purpose built 3D printer enclosures.
Future videos will add lighting, extractors and other items, so subscribe to keep updated.
Ikea parts used:
METOD high cabinet frame 60x60x220 cm
2x FONNES door with hinges 60x40 cm white (includes hinges)
2x SINDVIK glass door 60x64 cm white/clear glass
2x BESTÅ pair soft closing/push-open hinge - for Sindvik doors
3x UTRUSTA pair shelf 60x60 cm white
Sound deadening sheet material: Amazon UK amzn.to/3mKMxA1
I cannot find the same product for USA, but something like amzn.to/3Jv5a45 may do (its actually thicker).

    Isn't capricorn tubing tighter? As the PTFE tubes are only there to guide the filament and not feed like in a normal bowden setup, wouldn't you want the tubes less tight? (like the 4od 3id mm ones)?

On fast accelleration it is loud. If yours is manual you could remove centre resonator to make it louder, not recommended on auto's due to drone. For me its definitely loud enough.

      The cheap pwm on Amazon is just a two wire voltage regulator. The Noctua, which I also have, uses all 4 wires so gives a signal to the fan. I am using the version of this controller that allows for 2 fans, 2 temp sensors, and a buzzer. I am currently designing, testing, and creating a 3d printed cooling system for a Kicker CXA car amplifier. It's turning out great so far.. still need to do some final touches to it. The board works as advertised. Great electronic board to help with the project.

    Hello, thanks for taking your time to make these videos in such a detailed way, is it necessary to use the buck converter if I use a 12v fan with a 12v thermostat?

    • @colinhill
      @colinhill 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. I used it because I also used the 5v feed. But the converter also gives you a socket plus terminal connector on 12v side which makes connections easy.

    Hi Colin, Thank you for taking the time to produce your informative and pedagogical video. Much appreciated. I have been contemplating doing basically exacly what you did in this video, but with a digital controler solution. I.e. rather than setting things up manually, I would like to set the parameters and access temperature controlers using a zigbee hub (I use Hubitat Elevation). Any thoughts on if and how that could be done?

      Hi. Would like to do the same but not had time to investigate.

    If the Buck Converter Converts 12V to 5V, then how is the Fan getting the 12V it needs?

    • @colinhill
      @colinhill ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 12v outputs next to the 12v input. I use those.

    • @GalaxyerLP

      @@colinhill so then we dont strictly need the buck converter, we could just use a 12v power supply with a led terminal plug?

    • @colinhill
      @colinhill ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GalaxyerLP yes that's an option. I tend to have other devices that also use 5v, but if you don't have any then just use a 12v supply direct

    Hey Colin. Great video and I am going to try something similar for a lack enclosure I have. One question, do you think it is worth having an incoming fan as well as an exhaust one? That might keep it from getting too hot and therefore too loud. I mainly print PLA and have started PETG, but I am using the enclosure for noise cancelling predominantly. Thanks again.

    • @colinhill
      @colinhill ปีที่แล้ว

      My PrusaBox had a vent slot to allow fresh air in. But an incoming fan may create a draught of cold air causing petg to warp. I'm guessing on Lack there is a gap around front doors, that will allow fresh air in. And for pla I would leave doors open a little. Petg should be fine with doors closed. Remember you can set the on off temps so that will determine how loud it gets. Good luck

    You put links for the enclosure, which the video isn't about, but no links for the extruder, which the video is about. I seriously question your reasoning.

    • @colinhill
      @colinhill ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps because it's easy to Google Bondtech. However many people have no idea the manufacturer of the enclosure and I get lots of questions asking who makes it. And they have two links depending on your country. So that's my reasoning!
