Awesome Crew leads CSX L615 through Carpenter on the former D&S Mainline!
Not too long ago I was able to finally make one of my dreams come true - catching a train on the former Durham & Southern Railway mainline. Specifically through Carpenter, a small historic village just north of Apex. The D&S is special to me because it used to run through my hometown, but when the Seaboard (now CSX) took over, they ripped up all the tracks south of Apex (including my hometown), only operating between Apex and Durham, instead of the former full route which went all the way south to Dunn. Although a shell of what it once was, the mighty D&S still shines in Carpenter.

On a VERY hot spring day in Apex NC, I was able to catch Amtrak’s Silver Star running about 7 and a half hours late due to various uncontrollable delays. What was the D & S Railroad? I can't find any information. Thanks!
D&S is short for Durham & Southern. It was a 60ish mile shortline that ran from Durham to Dunn, NC, between 1903 and 1979, until it was taken over by the Seaboard. Now barely half of the line exists, which is the portion shown in this video that runs from Durham to Apex, used by CSX

I was actually there that same day. I was heading back from South Carolina on my home to Maryland. We must have missed each other because I was there when the weather turned gross.

What does the P092 -(09) mean?
It’s basically a big ol’ symbol, like a flight number: “P” means passenger, 092 is the train number, and -(09) is the date it left its origin (Miami, April 09).

Ah I thought you meant the ones off to the side. The reason there’s two is because they lead to an island platform so one is for one side, one is for the other. The other straight tracks, besides the diagonal one, are no longer used
