You are a machine man. Solid content as always👍
🙌Thanks man, always more to see and do!
@@mattrwoodward. Presidential traverse in the future?
@@joshuaadamsharakaly7134 I've got to right?! Just a question of hard push for 1 day or enjoy in 2
@@mattrwoodward. give yourself the 2 day buffer....unless you are the machine I know you are lol.
Hi Matt. Enjoyed this nicely filmed and detailed look at the New England Trail in CT. I was impressed with all the views you had, looks like a fairly well-blazed trail. Thanks for making this for us, hope you have a very blessed holiday time!
Thanks Ken, Happy Holidays! Views on views on views for this trail and I'd say very well blazed, maybe 2-3 spots that were tough
@@mattrwoodward. Do you have plans to hike the section in MA?
@@kenwbrenner Eventually I'm sure, but too much in CT that gets priority
Great video. I have been to many of those spots on the metacomet.
Great vid thanks!
You made this a year before the tornado hit the park
I made a follow up the year after the tornado with a handful of comparison shots when they reopened the park, looks like I'm due for a 5 year update on how the park has recovered th-cam.com/video/huSXy9KRImA/w-d-xo.html
@@mattrwoodward. thanks, watching now
This year I’ve done every single possible trail. I just finished yesterday with the blue trail. I live about 3 miles from SG so I just walk there and back. The white and blue are definitely the hardest trails
Congrats! Hope you you registered it to be an official Sleeping Giant Master
@@mattrwoodward. interesting, i never heard of that. where do i go to do that
@@dylanchadderton1 Looks like there's now some stipulations sgpa.org/giant-master/
@@mattrwoodward. I see, i just checked it out, thanks for the link btw. That's not gonna happen, you have to be SGPA member first and foremost, which im not doing and you also have to register BEFORE you do the trails. Im sure you can fudge that, but for me its not even worth it either way. But thanks for the info, never knew that!
very cool that you are still posting! i remember seeing some videos of yours many years ago.. so many channels went dead after a few years of such posts but you’re still going
Thanks man, 9 years already and here for the long term!
Hi Matt. Thanks for doing this for us. Glad you was able to go there and see this event.
Whoa.
Hi Matt. Another enjoyable blue trail video! As mentioned in other video comments, I was stationed at the Groton sub base 1971-1974. I hiked many of the southeast CT blue trails and purchased the CT Walk Book, 9th edition, 1972. I'd not heard of this trail, so I pulled out my old guide book to see if it was mentioned. What I found was the Cockaponset State Forest, which included 4 named trails totaling 10.8 miles. If you'd like to see the descriptions and trail map from this old guide book, I'll be glad to scan and email to you. Thanks for your great work, look forward to more videos.
If you think that's beautiful you've got to come to New England and from Massachusetts to Maine the coastline is spectacular especially the first thing in the morning You wake up and you watch the sunrise it is indescribable It's absolutely fantastic Much better than watching the sunset you can watch the sunset anywhere in the Pacific Ocean You live there but only the last time I mean it's kind of like a Ireland or Scotland or Whales um Northwestern section of England It's pretty but it's not the same thing As being on the East Coast and watching a sunrise first thing in the morning and it's nice to watch the sunset and the colors change but how would you like to see the colors start off and then change and become full daylight it is absolutely wonderful the last we have great whites here too so off of Cape Cod lots of them and plus flow further N you get all the humpbacks and the gray whales and the gray seals so a lot of the great whites go after them so you should you should come to England especially in the high summer like July August early September late June and we have lots of sins we have gracious we have harbor seals they love to go out for the harbor seals the great whites and the gray seals. let's we have lots of dolphins it'll go as I have humpbacks and gray whales I don't know if we've got any oh what are they I don't know if we have any other seals around in New England I know we have sperm whales occasionally it was a stranding once a long time ago of them up in the keep in I think it was like in the 1615 hundred 1600s but great way to eat a lot of stuff up here in New England including other sharks they're in tiger trucks that have been seen up the Hudson River Back in the 1700s
another great video!
This is my main fishing pond it’s so pretty and there’s tons of fish, thank you for doing a video on this pond
I just moved to Enfield, and saw Kings Island when biking the Canal trail. So happy to find this video. Cant wait to Kayak and Camp
The music ruins the video. Original audio, or even a generic nature song track would be more appropriate than deafening muzak. Or a voice over, ideally.
Too true, twas' the style at the time, I ruin my videos in other ways these days 😉
My mother grew up in Mount Carmel. She lived on Middle road which is still there her house even. It backs up to the back of Quinnipiac.
response recommended unless you got flame retardant pants liar
in accurate I was there and wtf is bry
I'm one of a handful of people ever inside that tower I have original l'hippodrome and memories my grandfather was the only person besides Mr Lippincott to hold a key even his son Brent didn't have one. you omitted the second most interesting gratuite feature the glyphs and code puzzles inscribed on the perimeters granite rocks. respond if u want to see original photos idk who u are but no one went in that tower u could see it from 91
This was my first blue blaze trail I hiked after I found your website last year! Looking to backpack the pachaug trail soon. I’m glad you hit up the quieter side of ct for some of these gems!
Nice 👍 thoroughly enjoyed
Every year since 2015 I say I'm gonna finish and I still haven't. Maybe this is the year! Although I don't see any info on 2024's hikes yet
I'm actually usually in the same boat. Here's to completing 2024! They usually release the year's challenge in late March so we're close now
been hiking this a lot lately, thx!😎👍👍 plan on doing some over nights, and also continuing through the Rhode Island section to Ashville pond.
this is a cool video to watch as me and my friend built that wood log wall back in 2015 when we were like 11 lol i also live on the road the entrance you used in the beginning of the video is on (bailey rd)
nice to hear a famniliar name. Hugh Hamill was one of my favorite UCONN professors
Nice video! Love the Manchester RR. If i had to guess, I would say you used the Insta360 X 3 here, I havr the same camera!
Thanks! Yep, done it every year since 2015 and it's an X2 if I remember right
Cool hike. Curious about the house and the stone foundations...makes me wishing I could know what the structures looked like. Guess they're lost to the past...
Yea I should go on Google Earth and see what the old aerials look like for the area
I was wondering if you've ever done night hikes for the video here and do you ever do videos from Massachusetts? Two places you might find interesting to hike is the Daniel Webster National Park or State Park excuse me In Massachusetts on the border with Rhode Island and in Natick MA There's the scout camp conservation area Called Nobscot there's a place in Numpscot Kong Called King Phillips Peak or King Phillips Lookout where at night you can see Boston laid out below you off in the distance it's a beautiful sun i've been there once. now during King Phillips War he and his scouts would go up there and see the candles and fires and st lamps of Boston So you could plan their attacks. To this day you can still see Boston spread out below you With all its glittering lights. It's a view worth seeing. I would definitely go your first time with an experienced guide that has been there before and knows the trails Cause there are a lot of trails at Docscot. Might be called knob stock excuse me But I think it stops God. Hey I haven't been there in 40 years so over 40 years So it's hard to remove the exact name of the place But it's right on the Natick Framingham border and it's on Google Maps I'm sure. I would definitely give it a try at least once.
Awesome!
Nicely done again Matt. Appreciate the complete look at this trail. It somewhat reminds me of the AT in PA (not many views, ridge walking, etc.). Thanks!
Hi Matt. Just found this video and enjoyed watching it. I enjoy your narration and filming skills, and find this to be an excellent video guidebook for this trail. As info, I was stationed at the sub base in Groton, CT 1971-1974, and developed an interest in hiking via the CT blue trails in SE CT. I liked the way the Pequot Trail tied into the Narragansett, which connected to the Nehantic and Pachaug trails. I've heard some of that is now gone, which is unfortunate. I've continued my interest on hiking over the years since, and have section-hiked the AT from GA to southern PA. Hope to return and hike some further north. I've documented my AT hikes (and others) on my TH-cam channel. Also plan to hike trails closer to where I live (southern Mississippi) such as the trails in the Smokies, return to some favorite sections of the AT, perhaps hiking in Arkansas, and some of the better parts of the AT in the states north of where I am now. I'll subscibe and look for more of your CT blue trail videos. Keep up the great work...
Only millionaires live there
Great video tour of my old stomping grounds. As carefree youths in the late 80's, we used to build a fire in the corner of the walls and party down inside the end portion of that sluiceway. This was long before this became a hiking destination. I see that that the right sluiceway outlet tunnel has opened up on the end. Back when we would hang out down there, that pipe was completely dark and plugged up with river silt. So glad this site now is being preserved, explored and enjoyed by so many.
that’s amazing i love literally a 1 minute walk from that wall on bailey rd and i hand there all the time on the weekends!
As recently ( ! ) as the early 1960s, there was a little snack bar at the summit, where you could buy cocoa or coffee.
Yes, the old Manchester Drive In Theater. I was first there as a 5 year old in 1955 in my parents' 1948 Plymouth 4 door sedan.
Great video! Working through the metacomet and tunxis myself. Enjoy
Another great production! Enjoyable watching on my 4k big screen TV. Great resolution, sound and enjoy the graphic inserts. Got a good laugh over the video ending. 👍✌️👏
That mountain Laurel is beautiful, I've never seen it that thick. No bees or pollinators visiting it? By the way, the Meshomasic is the last refuge of the timber rattlesnake to the east of the Connecticut river. I've been traipsing through the woods and fishing areas of Connecticut for over 50 years and I've never actually seen one, but if I was out in the middle of that state forest in the less visited areas, i'd stick to the main trails and watch where I step! It seems very unlikely that youd encounter a rattler ---- they're very wary of humans since we nearly exterminated them in the state 150 years ago ---- but it's best to play It safe. I would consider it akin to seeing a unicorn!
Definitely the best year for mountain laurel in a long time! Some pollinators were out depending on the area, more than they could handle I bet. The Shenipsit's original plan was to meet the Massachusett's border at Rattlesnake Hill, though I'm sure several other areas on the trail would have qualified for that name too
Ty Matt
Thanks Matt!
Hey Matt, planning on doing the same trip the 3rd week of April 2023. Your video has been helpful and a great reference. Just wondering if you had any tips/ reflections that you think would be helpful share. I plan on taking my Islay 14 (plenty of storage) and I have the paddlers trail downloaded on my phone with resources such as campsites and other resources. Lmk man!
That first day is a long one, I'd be tempted to start the previous evening and stay at Kings Island campsite (which didn't exist yet when I did this paddle) and do the stretch to River Highlands the next day. Plenty of quiet shoreline and islands to pull off and explore if you're feeling tired. And if you go all the way out to the lighthouse at the end, be prepared to either fight the current in the channel coming back or go out and around if the tides aren't your favor. Great trip, I'd definitely do again - hope you have a great time!
@@mattrwoodward. Much appreciated!! I'll lyk how it goes.
Nice bro, I finished 2 and a half minutes behind you.
Can't wait to hike this trail, although I won't stand anywhere near those steep edges like you lol
A good hike and one that takes you near the edge. Did you try to go to where the plane crashed in the 1950s? Higby also had a crash into the side facing 91 in the 60's. th-cam.com/video/zz7AmCSltYI/w-d-xo.html
I was aware of the plane crash but didn't seek it out this time, saving it for a less rushed hike. Thanks for the link to the footage!
I call these Ridgelines mini tetons. That trail head is a 5 min drive from my house.i hike it with the kids a whole lot!
That's perfect and I'd certainly do the same if I was only 5 minutes away!
Thanks Matt.
You visit some really beautiful places!!
I need to look up this park maybe I can visit it sometime. I like this waterfall, very cool. 👍
Aarghhh, I think I posted a comment to the wrong video...just want to say, as always, enjoyable to see CT views and history. Good job!
Lovely little hike. What State is it in, please?
Connecticut!
Thanks for the heads up, Sir. Have a fantastic Christmas!
