This is a brief how-to for changing the stock sway bar links on a Jeep Renegade (years 2015-2018).
Tools:
- Pass-thru 18mm (I used a 19mm)
The ones I bought (a.co/d/2ch3wZu) I don't recommend, because they don't have an 18mm and they're harder to fit at the base of the nut.
If I were to do it again, I'd buy something more like these: a.co/d/iIY6bdv
- T40 Torx wrench (a bit like this: a.co/d/4u2WhLx)
- Breaker bar (18" bar is what I used, similar to this: a.co/d/4pEa0h5)
- 18 mm socket wrench (to lower the Jeep using the stock jack)
- 3/4" wrench (to install the replacement Moog part)
- Jack stand (similar to these: www.harborfreight.com/automotive/jacks-jack-stands/jack-stands/3-ton-heavy-duty-ratcheting-jack-stands-slate-gray-70593.html)
Parts:
Moog Sway Bar Link (www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8712424&cc=3353583&pt=7580&jsn=13)

I believe you forgot to put the grease in. 😮
I’ve changed these out quite a few times. Those Moogs are 18mm for both backside & nut. A ratchet wrench works well too. Also retorque at least the top nut with the car on the ground under weight load.
How good is the lazer NGK do on power and gas mileage?
@@RandyAtcitty power seems fine and has milage is good. I regularly get the higher 20s, 28mph or so
What is in the tube
3 years on, how are they holding up? Just saw the sway bar vid, and they still seem perfect and not faded at all.
Yea, they've been great! They're just as bright as the day I installed them, and the housing has held up well with the weather and use throughout these past few years. I would still recommend them!
Great video. Just scared me when you had your leg under the vehicle even with the jack stands.
Safety first scare to fail the jack stand.
Thank you for the video, it's a big help
Of course! Glad it helped!
You have to grease Moog sway bar links. They don't have enough grease inside from the factory. BTW What is the mileage of your Renegade?
This was something I wasn't 100% on. Because this particular link is both greasable and has a sealed boot. I believe there are more than one compatible Moog branded sway bar links for the renegade as well. It's been good so far, I want to say I changed them at around 115k miles or so? And I'm at 120K ish now?
@@srcarter3 if it’s greasable then it’s not sealed
For the love of God, get an actual floor jack.
😂 I'm good
Thanks for the info, I see your link. Im going to give it a try. I have a 2015 and my only issue is the knob rubbing off into my hand. Time for a change.
Glad you found the link okay. I highly recommend the new knob! My only regret is not doing it sooner!!
Same!!!
Fantastic, thanks!
Thanks for this, helpful! Delighted with my new momo 😁
Nice video thanks, very helpful, i was expecting the old one to split in the middle like ther replacement Alfa one i bought. This one didn't just pop of though, the only thing I had that would fit was a 12T hydraulic blind bearing puller, a bit overkill!
where did you put the jack stands to support the car ? How do you think it could be jacked up without the scissor jack?
got them.. But didn't came with harness...Its not plug and play for 2022 Renegade.. You need harness also !
Did you reach out to the seller? The link on Amazon still shows it comes with a wiring harness and is plug and play for all models including 2022 models.
Thank you so much for this, both the walk though and the MOMO recommendation. I installed mine last week without issues on a 2015, and the new knob is a significant upgrade. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful! I still love my momo to this day! Way better than the stock one!
this helped immensely in my replacing my plugs, thanks so much for it.
I'm glad this helped!
Very helpful keep up the good work
Awesome video. Thank you!
Thanks so much ❤ and yeah I was scary because sound terrible when I start my car 😂
No Torque wrench? bold choice.
If you have a torque wrench, I do recommend using it. I don't know the specified torque values though I assume they can be found online.
@@srcarter3 I should have also said this was a great video. Super clear viewing angles. Thank you!
On my 16 I have to go thru the radio and put the brakes in service mode, retracts the calipers.
I'm fairly certain that only needs to be done if you're working on the back breaks. Definitely can't hurt though.
@@srcarter3 Yes, what am doing tomorrow. Learned my lesson on an Audi. Battery was out.... Had to run 2 wires from my Jeep to make the motor retract
Well, that didn't go as planned. LOL. Read forums and even watched videos on 2016 trailhawk. Well, didn't need the elusive E20 on back. Lug caps swelled so had to beat 17mm sockets on and luckily I have many so 3 are still stuck on the lug. Would have been nice to know the caliper slide volts takes 2 wrenches. Today, used a 17mm and 1/2". Boot top has a nut that needs to be held while 1/2 these off bolt. 17mm for the bracket. Darn rotor stuck on so had to PB blaster it then hammer pry it off. Then the brain fart kicked in. after 30min I realized Duhhh! other way. Still in a brain fart couldn't figure why new lug bolts won't fit, lined up wrong holes. Other side took 15 min. Gotta say it stops on a dime. Got that giddy laugh when first broke hard. Back has a semi with a coated, slotted drilled rotor. These type rotors work better when needing braking power while towing and I tow frequently. I always buy cars that the volts are never the same. Everyone saying 16mm, 14mm E20...Today a 1/2 17mm..Maybe the E20 only used on front? I will say the jack points suck. Used a hydraulic and didn't have that adapter so a bit dented..
Only back brake have the e-brake that requires service mode through radio console.
How are they holding up. Any issues
Ya they've been great, no issues 👌
Thank you. This was very helpful. I just got a new (uhh, used) renegade. The knob is only a little worn, not really a problem yet, but it feels like thin plastic. It just feels cheap to me and it kills the driving experience for me. I wanted to replace it even before I bought it but I was concerned that i couldn't see any screws or other obvious way to remove it without destroying anything.
Oh yeah I hope you order this momo one, it's been great, I only wish I'd done it sooner? Such a better driving experience honesty. Good luck!!
Excellent video and very helpful
Are you in california?
I'm not. Sorry 😔
Awesome :) I need to do this activity, because the mechanics I visited only do the bare minimum and can't find a problem that I think is related to the shocks.
you're AWESOME
Thank you!
Excelent video
Thanks for the video. Clearly the design engineer was paid by the number of screws he involved! Geez.
Haha yeah, it does seem to be a tad overkill.
Thanks for the video. Very informative and well explained.
Since you’ve had these on a while, how are they holding up?
We recently bought a second vehicle, so we've only put a few thousand miles on the jeep since I replace the pads and rotors, but they've been great! Absolutely no issues so far.
I’m so glad someone has guidance on this. Thank you. Any specification necessary for the replacement?
Can you clarify by what you mean by specification? This is for the manual transmission renegade, I believe they should all be the same from 2015-2018. (Not available in the US after that)
Hi changed out my Spark plugs and my Jeep shakes under the Hood it's no longer stalling or Stopping just shaking like crazy and has a weird rough hatd airy sound only 54,000 miles on my 2.4 2017 Jeep Renegade.
Hmm... Have you had the engine mounts looked at?
Check your connections
Check your Oxygen Sensors as well.
@@goriarell I sold the Jeep back in June too many problems
Very thorough. Thanks a lot!
A good and even cheaper item to replace the rubber insert socket is a magnetic wand, just use a long tool to brush the plug off when you have it settled in the well. Worked for my 2013 Corolla. And be careful removing the ignition plug!!! If you drop any part of that (like a copper spring) it will cause the plug to misfire and your vehicle will shake violently, but not to cause any worry as you can easily reassemble the ignition plug, just be careful not to lose any part of it.
What about the plug that was connected to the signal?
You don't end up using that anymore, so that wiring basically is just hanging out in the engine bay.
And why don't you use the original plug of the turning light?
very good video. I wanted to know about a suitable adapter for the knob and what is the size . thanks
I've love the Momo. Should have done it years ago, honestly!
Very Nice, thanks!
Looks great! Thank you for video. Putting these on my yellow ‘17 renegade
Awesome! The smoked signals will look great on the yellow I bet!
Thank you!
Thank you!
what wheel and tire setup did you put on? i have the same color renegade in a 2019 and been looking for a new black wheel setup like yours
I bought Vision Cross wheels (www.discounttire.com/buy-wheels/vision-cross) with Falken Wildpeak AT Trail tires (www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/falken-wildpeak-a-t-trail/p/80711)
Are the NPK spark plugs pre-gapped? I assume so if they are OEM.
Yes, the ones in the video (and links) are pre gapped!
Excelente video saludos desde chile 🇨🇱 👍🏼
Thank you so much for your video I just replaced my stock with these yesterday im in London (England) you video was so so helpful , I had one small additional issue the notch that the metal clip goes back into on the unit of mine was too wide so I had to grind back a bit on it like the small cross notch one you did , all works, fits and looks much cooler, once again thank you for taking the time to do your video otherwise I would have struggled knowing what to do
Thanks so much, very good explanation 👍🏻
Thank you for info.
Thanks for the info. New sub here, just bought my first Jeep, which I’m clueless about lol
I bought those same ones. I’m gonna put them on when it’s a little warmer. Don’t have a garage
