Weaving 4-Shaft Overshot on a Louet Spring Loom
มุมมอง 3637 หลายเดือนก่อน
Second attempt! I’m so much happier with this piece after taking the time to repair the threading errors, sleying errors, resley at a looser sett, change the pattern weft AND the tabby weft. I unwove this piece SEVERAL times until I had it right. 🤓 For Those That Want to Know: * The draft is “Lee’s Surrender”, a popular 4-shaft, overshot design. It can be found for free on the Leclerc website o...

Handwoven Towels on the Louet Spring Loom

A peek at all the steps that go into making handwoven tea towels! What Is Weaving And How Do Handweavers Make It?
This is absolutely satisfying
How does it switch the over-under for the material?
Is it difficult?
Como sellama este trlat? Marca? Y donde se consigue?
Perdón, cómo se llama? Marca? Dónde lo puedo encontrar?
Como se llama este telar? Donde se consigue?
Que hermosos telares!!
Yes please
So excited, I just ordered mine
Congratulations! How exciting!

I just read a book set in late 1700s London about a silk weaver's family. They use a draw loom to make figured silks. I'd never even heard of a draw loom prior to reading that book, so I was so confused about why it required two people. One to work the treadles, throw the weft, and call out the draw cords needed to the assistant who would pull the cords. Watching videos like this one are helping me understand the process a bit better.
That’s awesome!! I’m so glad it helped!
What software are you using?
I’m using iWeaveIt
Waw i like you vidio
Your mashin my feverit

How I Sew Hems on Handwoven Towels… Yesterday I shared how I pinned hems, today is all about machine sewing them. I start about 1/2” in from the edge. My machine is a bit fancy and does a knot (not necessary). Then I reverse stitch back to the absolute beginning and give a gentle nudge to the fabric to sew over the bulk going forwards again. The main sewing part was awkward .. I was sewing while looking through the camera and straddling the tripod … how on earth do people record these things 😅 I sew right to the end, then reverse stitch about a 1/2” then complete with a fancy knot (again not necessary)… you could just reverse again a few more stitches to secure. I can’t recommend a walking foot enough when working with handwoven hems!! A walking foot has an additional set of feed dogs (from the top) that help grab and march the fabric through, working with the feed dogs below. Think alligator 🐊 having a snack 😜 🤓 For Those That Want To Know: This sewing machine is the Janome MC 6600P and it includes a built in walking foot (AcuFeed System). If you aren’t sure, bring your sewing machine into a reputable shop and they can help fit a walking foot for you. I sew hems on handwoven cloth before it’s wetfinished. I don’t measure and I don’t iron! (See yesterday’s post to see how I pin the hem) This is a hand towel woven with Brassards 2/8 cotton. Threading is straight draw on 4-shafts with a sett of 20. Treadling is horizontal herringbone. I wove them on an Oxaback, Ulla Cyrus, combination drawloom, set up for single harness … to practice before I attempted double harness 😳 #weaving #handweaver #handwoven #handweaver #handweaversofinstagram #sewinghandwovenfabric #sewing #slowcloth #kawarthaweaving #janome #janome6600 #handmade
Your work and the colors you chose for this piece are beautiful. I would love to have a loom like this but for now on my budget I stick with my lap loom and Zoom loom plus some my hubby makes. Happy weaving! 🧵🧶🕸️
Thank you so much!! I also really enjoy pin loom weaving 😁
@@kawarthaweaving I find it highly relaxing, once I get going on it my fingers just fly over the loom in such a soothing way.
Where exactly are you situated in ashford and btw you can be vague as i live there
I have absolutely no affiliation with Ashford whatsoever. I purchased this loom with my personal money and my opinions are my own. Hope this is what you are asking??
@kawarthaweaving lol sorry I thought u were someone else !!
Hermoooso !!!❤
Wow! If only! What a dream!
That is so cool!
What software are you using on your tablet?
IWeaveIt
wow!
Can you make the design that I will show
Not sure exactly what you are asking? Sorry
It is almost robotic 😅
Only because I’ve done it a bazillion times 😅
Mesmerising!
Silver textiles Super 👌
Thank you ☺️
i wish looms like this didn't cost so much. My own primitive frame looms are much slower.
All my floor looms are second hand! Please check your local buy and sell groups.
I would like to see a video where you show what you do when the yarn on the heddle is empty halfways. I just started to dig into that art and it's something i wonder about. Do you knot on one side or do you leave it.. ^^
Sorry, I’m not exactly sure what you are asking … are you asking about setting up the loom? Or actual weaving?
@@kawarthaweaving while weaving. You put yarn on the heddle and somewhen it's empty. Do you just leave it loose?
I just warped a 480 ends baby blanket, so I can relate. what software are you using to keep track of your draft and weaving progress? I was considering iWeaveit for iPad.
My main program is Fiberworks, but it’s not mobile. I use iweave it to track threading and treadling on my iPad, while I’m at the loom.
thanks for posting the video. That's my dream loom...
It really is a pleasure to weave on!
So cute the penguin socks!
Haha thanks 😂. My studio is above the unheated garage so I need cozy, warm socks!
Lovely loom.
Thank you, it really is a pleasure to weave on.
Thanks. I'll try it. Have mostly heavy shuttles that are great with other looms. That would be very freeing.
omg this loom and your piece are both so beautiful
Thank you so much ☺️
Looks like a nice shed. Are you using a slim shuttle?
It’s a really nice shed ☺️. Yes, I’m using Leclerc slim shuttles.
Does that loom have a race on the beaterh? How do you manage to use the shuttle, rather than a stick shuttle?
There is not a shuttle race. It takes some practice, but it’s doable. Consistent warp tension, properly wound bobbin and very deliberate shuttle throwing. I also use a slim shuttle.
You can also make a race for it using a cross stick. Take the cross stick and tie it against the reed at the end holes (to the wingnut that's behind the reed that secures beater head). There's an article somewhere showing you how to do it, should be ready to Google.
Hi, could you please tell me what application you are using for your pattern on your tablet?
IWeaveIt with the in-app treadle purchase
I'm so sorry for your loss
Where did you get that?
The loom?? It’s the Ashford 16-shaft table loom. They have a list of dealers on their website.
Beautiful colours and design. Also you’re so quick at reading the pattern!
Thank you! 😊
I have 2 questions. 1: What was used to number the shaft levers? 2: What stand is being used to hold the iPad above the loom and how is it attached? Thanks
I made the numbers out of vinyl with a Cricut crafting machine. I purchased an iPad stand from Amazon. It just sits on the top of the castle.
@@kawarthaweaving thank you
What app/program are you using on the screen?
Looks like iWeaveIt with the possible in-app purchase of Treadle Tracker
This is so satisfying to watch
Thank you so much! 😊
