Sounds Amazing! Vintage 1963 ES 345 TD Semi-Hollow Guitar, Stereo Varitone - Only at Lovies Guitars
Sometimes with these semi-hollow guitars, they just have this great midrange focus and "flute-like" quality. This guitar has all of that!

Quick Description:
This 1963 Gibson ES-345TD Stereo Varitone has a vintage cherry red finish! The Gibson ES-345 TD was launched in 1959, and first demonstrated at the summer trade shows of that year - along with the Gibson ES-355 stereo varitone. These models came one year after the successful launch of the Gibson ES-335 and Gibson ES-355 models. All of these guitars were part of the new thinline series of guitars, characterized by a semi-hollow body: a maple top and back with a central maple block running the length of the body continuing from where the neck ends. The neck, in typical Gibson style, was initially mahogany, with a rosewood fingerboard. The 345 doesn’t have some of the ornamentation of the 355, but it still has gold plated hardware, and the stereo varitone circuitry.
Guitar weighs 8.85lbs, a great weight for the semi hollow guitars, being well balanced. Serial: 112856 SKU: 7189

Great demo! By all the gods, thank you for sharing in the description, details on what you were playing it through, and how! So many demos lack that key info.
Thanks! Honestly it’s feedback like this that led me to start including all of that info. Thanks for watching!!!
Simply spectacular !
Not a thing wrong with the originals!
@@SandalGuy1 it’s a fair point. Although I liked the swap, at the end of the day, there was a lot less difference than I thought there would be.
@@tjnilsen Yeah, it's weird. The price of some pickups, and at the end of the day, quite often, not a substantial difference, at least to my ears. I think all guitar players would like to think there's a huge difference, but for me, not enough to justify the high prices of some makers. Anyway, it's good you're happy with your guitar. Thanks for the vid.
I am by no means a great guitarist but I have been searching for a tele, the only one I ever bonded with years ago was a black Nash…. They make great teles, I wish they would do non-relics. Love the look but I’d rather be the one who does the damage🤙 I just did a review on the Squier Debut tele and it was a flop.
@@SearchingForTone hey! Yea I hear ya , There are some really ultralight relics by Nash. The tele in this video was pretty lightly reliced (almost just had an aged finish more or less) but I don’t think you’ll find a Nash that looks brand new.
@@tjnilsen yeah, but thats not what they are known for. The one I had was slightly relic’s and was believable that I played it.🤣
Where can I view the full video?
@@mrc25381 hey! Should be here: th-cam.com/video/etNZ7tKyCLA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=h61N1BX5W3dAwMCu. Thanks for watching!!!
I just "built" one exactly the same as yours. MJT 3TS body, Bare Knuckle Mother's Milk pups and had a neck built with a Brazilian board. I'm actually quite shocked at how good it is!.
@@keiranbradley3238 that’s awesome. I haven’t played bare knuckle pickups…. How awesome are they?
Deffinetely better than Fender...T64, my favorite...
I would never buy a relic'd guitar i can wear it out myself thank you, it's a bit like the denims that come ready wrecked with holes and snags, i could do that myself too, and why is it they always cost more it's almost as if someone said ' Hey, all those guitars that failed inspection, lets wreck them up even more, double the price and call them relic'd, the public are morons they'll buy anything. Tchh, Not this Moron.
Superb demo of a really stunning example. Enjoyed that, Thank you.
@@Bigsbeee thanks! This was an exceptional example of a 50’s strat for sure! I was so lucky to have even played it.

TJ is the dude!
hands up who will not ever can afford a 2000+ guitar
If i lived on the dumpster dive food and what ever i could snare and burn pallets i could probably get there in a few months, but would i want to? I have done in the past but i was younger and could shake it off in a month and own that Rock and Roll emaciated look, now i will probably end up in hospice care.
sorry don't get the whole relic / weathering thing, seems a little stupid. Its like taking your new born baby and trying to make them look like grandma. What happens in 20 years with your relic. will it been in worse shape then a real naturally aged 20 year old guitar? If you are a buyer what are you going to do? Buy a normally aged 20 year old guitar or a 20 year old guitar that was already aged to be 40 years old. Its stupid makes no sense why you would create an relic guitar unless your just someone who want to get more dollars out of something that is really not what it really is. Sit and have a long think about this. other than novelty what good does it do?
Loves me my Papa George Greasy Hots wound by Joel Dyer on my '63 Sunburst Danocaster Doublecut - RocketFire was the other option for that S-style relic guitar Dan made for me in 2014 and I've always been curious about them, too - thanks! Sounds like either is a big step up from Fender. Wish I could compare them directly!
Damn TJ, this stagecoach sounds just as nice as it looks! Found you on the JMG page on facebook. Glad i did!
Thanks Brett! That guitar really sounds incredible.
Those Rocketfires are 🤌
The more I get familiar with them, the more I tend to agree with you!!!
Many would consider Peter Florance Voodoo TE50s as holy grail pickups. On top of that, Dan Strain carefully matches pickups to each guitar he builds (see his interview with Ask Zac), so he thought the TE50s were the best pickups for this guitar (though maybe Ron Ellis pickups were not available when this guitar was made). Bottom line: I would not expect a dramatic improvement going from TE50s to Ron Ellis pickups, in fact, I'm not sure I heard any improvement at all. I would add, lastly, that to call Peter Florance pickups "factory" pickups belittles his memory.
Yes better, any day
What is the riff you played in the middle position? Ive heard loads of demos where peeps play it but i dont know the song, can anyone help me out? Beaitiful guitar and playing by the way.
Specifically the one near 2.50
Check out Joe Walsh ‘s “Life’s been good”. Thx for watching.
Almost as nice as mine!!! Just kidding, totally subjective.
I have a more modern strat (2023) and I am really trying to get it to have that vintage tone. Do I just straight up swap pickups? Mine is “too clean” or too bright for a strat in my opinion.
Hey. Thanks , and great question. So one option in my opinion would be to try and replicate some of the compression and eq via an eq and boost pedal , like I did. You could also swap pickups. Depending on what you are going for , something like rocket fire true 60’s pickups could work really well, as could some Ron Ellis 60’s pickups. The Ron Ellis pickups have a great openness and low end like a vintage pickup, but seemed to lack a little upper harmonic content (in my experience of a few sets). Your main aim is to recreate the bold low mids, and the high mid harmonic content. That’s my 2 cents.
@@tjnilsen dude youre awesome thanks for the feedback. I will hopefully save up enough money for an eq. I appreciate you a ton my man❤️
@@Jxstero anytime!
what amp do you play through?
Hey, This one was recorded through a Dr Z Antidote Head into a Dr Z 1x12 cabinet with creamback speaker.
I have a '63 Danocaster sunburst double cut made for me in 2014. I have owned and played literally dozens of Fender Stratocasters. I don't own any of them any more, and I don't miss them. My Dano' double cut is my favorite of all the electric guitars I have ever owned over 47 years.
That’s awesome! I have not been disappointed by announce danocasters I’ve played, that’s for sure.
Absolutely awesome have a wonderful day also what is your favorite year from the 2010s in general ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
2011👍
I'm in luv ♥♥♥
I traded my new Gibson 74 335 for a 1957 Rickenbacker 4000 bass. I’ve never regretted that because although I loved the 335 in the studio, it was annoying as hell when it fed back on stage in the 70s, when of course we played pretty loud. That Gibson 337 guitar might be perfect for me.
It was certainly the most controllable semi hollow I’ve played up at volume. Very unique experience with this model.
Fantastic Gibson!
To look fucking awesome!!! lol the best
Dude you're a legend!
Great video. Personally I feel the Start and Tele sound iconicly different. The casino offers something different with p90s and feedback. I can justify owning one of each but when it comes to the Gibsons I would just pick one.
It’s funny in generally feel the same way. I can distinguish the single coil character a lot more than I can with humbuckers. Perhaps the lower output true PAF humbuckers would show a larger difference. Thanks for watching!!!
Very nice amp. I am fortunate to have a '77 in a MojoTone cabinet that sounds glorious.
Awesome! What speaker?
Just a heads up... I've tried to visit your website at least a dozen times over the last year or so for various Gibson guitars and my anti-virus gives me a warning or won't even display the page. Both Firefox and Chrome say it's not safe. I haven't had this issue accessing any other websites during that time. Thought you'd want to know that something is up.
Thanks for that! Will address with the shop.
I have a mint 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb amp - I've been trying to sell it but no takers . ☮️🇺🇸🎸✨🏄♂️
Are you willing to ship it? And where are you located ? City, country , etc. maybe someone on here will see and contact you.
64 Deluxe Reverb doesn't have Fender Logo on grill cloth. Maybe that amp is 1965
Sorry to all the haters but these are the absolute best sounding and playing Les Pauls produced.
After playing a few of them now, I would agree…. Probably the best sounding and playing les Paul’s in current production
No, they are not and no, im not hater. Florian Jaerger from Bavarian Makeover take custom shop les pauls and make it exaxtly how they was 1959. From correct inlays Material, corect gibson logo, correct material of binding, shape, shape of headstock, body...etc. There you get the REAL "copy" of 59
@@BrankoPichler that’s a great piece of info…. Any website/ contact info you can share? I’ve never seen any of these and am now curious ! Thx!
@@tjnilsen put bavarian makeover on Google. That man is just sick in positive meaning. He take all Les Paul a Part, everytning, every single piece of guitar. Of cours, its cost lot of money
@@BrankoPichler that’s amazing…. Thank you for sharing this!!!
I have a 65’ Deluxe, non reverb, it is magic!!
I feel like deluxe reverbs all sound different too…. At least the different models… this was waaaay different than my ‘68 DRRI
Did...did you just make a tone demo with nothing but constant playing, demonstration of tones broken up into logical chapters, using two polar opposite style guitars in order give us the broadest possible impression of the amp in the most efficient way possible? Where's the three-minute long anecdote at the beginning about how you first heard a sound in the 90s, when your father took your cousin's wedding and the band there was mostly forgettable but the tone of the guitarist was something that always stuck in your head and you've spent your entire life since trying to capture it? Where's the five-minute preamble about how and why you're testing this? Why haven't you scattered the tone demos across various "funny", forced-high-energy ramblings? Where's the fake outs and clickbait? I'm scared. Scared and confused.
... at the risk of being too efficient and getting some cool information out there..... lol ... :) 😁
@@tjnilsen Also, why isn't everything played through a reverb pedal cranked to about 9 so we can't actually make anything out? :D
Which speaker?
A very great (and astute) question …. This amp has what I believe to be a Weber speaker in it. Will confirm …
This 64 deluxe reverb has a 12” Weber 12F150 in it.
@@tjnilsen thanks!
@@beatbaker7420 of course! Thanks for watching !!!
@@tjnilsen been a pleasure, Jesus bless you!
Since the 90's I've had Van Zantz, Lollor, Fralin, Don Mare, and Ron Ellis pickups in a Strat and a Telecaster, for me the Ron Ellis pickups win. All were good, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the Ron Ellis sets and I'm done modifying my guitars, after the Ellis sets I consider them as good as they're going to get.
I’m in the middle of a Strat pickup swap myself. The Ron Ellis pickups in this guitar were really impressive. I agree, they might be the best out there
Greatest amp ever?
I think when you consider the all around view point- jack of all trades amp, durability, tone, portability, countless recordings, basically a standard backline amp, available everywhere, around for 60 years, the fender black panel amps are probably really high on the best amp ever list.
What is your "greatest amp of all time"? And what dream guitar would you plug into ?
@@andrearecchia8859 well…. If I had to pick one amp out of everything I’ve played, it would be a two-rock classic reverb signature. It’s the biggest sounding amp I’ve ever heard, amazing clarity (fender meets dumble depending on settings). Guitar wise…. I’m more wishy washy. I looove a Strat , but I’d have a hard time not picking a 335. If I needed to do a cover gig … I’ll take the Strat….. if I was recording an album , I’d take a 335 (and then sneak a Strat in on a few tracks. lol). Great question ! How about for you?
Great answer! As weird as it is, my choices would be a Les Paul Custom into a Fender 65 Twin Reverb reissue. It's not the true best amp and guitar ever but my guitar heroes (The Smiths, Interpol...) use that. I guess the most influential amp would be a 50s Bassman or 5e3 Deluxe. The best ever? Maybe a Blackface Bassman Head? Cheers :)
Thanks for this video! Hoping to try one of these soon to compliment a Princeton
That’s great! Was a really versatile little amp and its character would work really well with your Princeton!
OK I am learning too, the Dreadnought!! yowza
I just got a Yamaha FG820 and that slso rings forever its actually really impressive but sure, im looking to save for a martin already for my second guitar lol
Yes, you and me both. This one certainly has “the thing”. It blows my Taylor out of the water (IMO)
Sounds a lot like my 1972 D-35.
I think that makes sense… doing a little research I think very similar construction minus the number of wood pieces…. If it sounds like this one, the. It must be a great guitar!!!
@@tjnilsen Yes - was in the flood in Nashville in 2010 and was found in three pieces in the case in a home. Luthier cleaned it all up for me and did a re-glue and it sounds good. Bridge had lifted off too. $1,200 in repairs.
@@softsouthernknight really great story behind that guitar, especially since its still working today!
@@tjnilsen Yes - glad I had all the work done on it.
Have owned a few Savage amps and LOVE them. VERY underrated.
This was a killer amp , and was a great pedal platform. Plus super easy in and out of gigs with something like this.
Very good brother. As I realised LES Paul is gibbons master piece and Telecaster is fenders .😎
Great video btw!
Thx! These are super fun and I really enjoy showcasing what’s out there.
This is not a strike at prs (they are my favorite guitar). The private stock is more about having a specially crafted wand. It doesn’t mean it does anything mysteriously different. I think a lot of players think more $ means it just keeps getting better and better. You can get different woods used on some of the private stock on other core models as well and it’s the same sound. It’s about preference and discovery. To me ziricore is simply the best on a fingerboard and the fatback is like the unlocking of a different realm. Korina might be common to some but a Dean USA I was tried was a guitar unlike anything I’ve ever played since. I guess what I’m trying to say is there’s a lot of ways to have a unique experience to your preferences and that most people mistake what the private stock is by thinking that it’s going to sound better just because of the extra dough. A lot of them sound just like the other cores and people don’t realize it. If I were to ever flat out purchase a private stock it would be for the customized look and wood combinations to a specific spec.
100%. I haven’t played enough private reserve and private stock to back it up with the exception that the extra money gets you an absolutely unique guitar that looks and sounds amazing! Does every custom 24 sound as good, maybe …. They are all super versatile and everyone that I’ve played has sounded great , especially with the 5 way switch. Now, has every private stock PRs looked absolutely stunning… YES!!!
