Thanks for showing me how it comes apart. I was FINALLY able to get the rotten milk smell out of my mug. A couple of additional tips you might find helpful- 1: its a lot easier to get the rubber grommet onto the spring while you are pressing the plunger trigger. 2: My mug had a bunch of nasty crap under the lid lock button as well. I popped it off with a screw driver. I can't seem to get it to go back on... but its not necessary for the function of the device. And I prefer having a clean mug with no lock button to a dirty lockable mug.

Is there a way to get the little silicone "plug" that you open and close when you take a sip? I've managed to get a toothpick under it but there's more filth inside the under part where two two sides of silicone meet. Any ideas on that one?

Fantastic video. I used a water pik to blast out the vent and it somewhat worked. I watched this video and the vent was still clogged after using the waterpik. This is SO much better and easier.
Ok hopeful this might work after seeing the comments. Was about to throw this thing out before I finally saw a video that appears to get into the details and makes sense.
Here in Japan they have kitchen bleach which is basically a more diluted version of the regular laundry bleach. After taking it apart as this video shows, just use the kitchen bleach and it really gets those difficult coffee stains off. Just let it soak for about an hour, give a bit of a rub with a brush, and then rinse thoroughly a few times. Great video btw.
You sir are my hero today. I've been trying to figure out how to disassemble this thing off and on for years, and especially the past couple of weeks as I noticed it felt clogged. After I got might apart, there was a couple of centimeters of nasty gunk on that shaft. It's all soaking in a mild bleach solution right now. Don't know why I didn't think to search for a TH-cam video sooner.
This is mind blowing! I have been cleaning everything but the air vent for years without knowing coffee gunk was still in there. It was almost completely blocked and not letting coffee out, until now!!! Thanks for your video!
Worked great. The only slight issue i have, is that after reassembly the button is ever so slightly more out so it can wiggle from side to side. Other than that seal is still great and working better than before cleaning
This is a great tutorial! I was able to wash both of my lids in 5 minutes instead of "trying" to clean them without dissasembly in 30 minutes. Many thanks!
Thanks for the video. I usually just use my air compressor to blow out the worse of the gunk and use a small toothbrush with soapy water. But taking that seal assembly apart will be much better.
The best cleaning video on TH-cam, I was almost discouraged buying a contigo mug after watching other cleaning videos as they tell you to remove the whole plastic mechanism and you have to mess around with tiny little springs, So glad I watch this and seen how simple it is to clean properly A+

Also, the lock/unlock switch on the top can/should be removed, so the muck under it can be cleaned out..
