Travel Sketching, Food Sketching And Even Some Garden Sketching in One Fun Challenge!
I wasn’t going to take part in any of the October art challenges but when I found out about #theydrawtober I couldn’t resist. A combination of travel sketching, food sketching and garden sketching with plenty of prompts to choose from made this challenge super fun.

Are You Guilty Of These Common Sketching Mistakes When Drawing On Location?
I had a very unproductive October as I went to Nigeria and I couldn’t settle to draw. Brighton Pavilion is really near me
I love how different every page is! my favourites are 11:09 and 12:58 😍😍
fantastic video, watched and enjoyed till the end 😊😊
Can't wait to see your chosen pieces framed up Kat! And the play for Folktale week at the end looked great fun too! 😍
Yay, thank you!
Just got the 150 chromaflow set. It seems they are sharpenng much better than my older 12 set i had. Having alot of fun with them. 2 thumbs up lol.
Wow, 150 colours would be too many for me! But good that they sharpen better. It makes such a difference.
Thanks Kat, I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks for watching 😀
I like to see Australian TH-camrs. What state are you in.?
Ok so Victoria
Yep, in Melbourne.
You did a lot of art Kat, I always love the looseness of your drawings/paintings and your color choices 😊 good luck for the contest art 🤞❤️ and hope the exercise helps you!
Thanks so much!
Love your art. So creative ❤
It's my happy place.
Thanks a lot for this video!! What a good test!, i have the colorsoft from Derwent, love them. But to be honest, I don’t have any other color pencils. Bought these years and years a go.. liked the set of 72 so much wasn’t aware that there where any other sort of color pencils😂 I didn’t use them a long time but since a year i am in a drawing mood. So happy that i still have them because i like them a lot. Greetings from the Netherlands 🎉❤
It was fun to test them all but tbh, i mostly use the drawing pencils.
I liked it all, well done. I am into the mini drawings this time. Just for fun. ❤
Wonderful!
This was so good! And inspiring to choose one main subject and not just draw it repeatedly on it's own but to also have incorporated that subject into many drawings. I love this!
Thanks. I think I'd go mad if I just kept drawing the same thing over and over!
nice ❤❤ new subscriber
Welcome aboard! :D
I enjoy your commentary, you're funny AND great at drawing umbrellas!
Thanks :D
Great idea thanks for sharing I think umbrellas are a complicated shape to draw but you definitely improved.
Thanks, I still find umbrellas hard but it's good to make progress.
I actually loved the relaxed quality of some of your work, especially when you draw over some of them. I could see you using a chinagraph and then painting over it and redrawing into it. Keep on keeping on Kat, you are such a refreshing treat in the Art World. Cheers, Muffy. PS. I used to live in Brunswick, so I love seeing your drawings of Melbourne. I now live in a subtropical rainforest in North Eastern NSW
I'm glad you like my Melbourne drawings. I'll have to visit the rainforest one day.
Totally agree. Umbrellas are difficult to draw but shouldn’t be. And, the great news is - you’re very good at them now. Love the concept and video.
Thanks. Umbrellas are a pain. But now I can do them!
fantastic video, so many amazing tips, watched and enjoyed till the end ☺☺
Glad you enjoyed it
Drawing umbrellas is hard, now when I sketch one I will remember your breakthrough 🙂 makes all the sense! I think you alread master umbrellas Kat, your dedication to learn and improve a subject is so inspiring ❤
thanks, it's hard because they have so many surfaces. I think I get bogged down in it.
Thank you for sharing this information ... I have been wondering what the difference between the two of these are and you are so funny and entertaining. I love your personality. I have heard that the Woody crayon's pigment does not extend all the way through the shaft. So the Neocolor 11s have more pigment ounce for ounce.
That’s a great point about the pigment - I’ll have to do another comparison with a few different brands to see how the Woody 3-in-1s compare.
I watched this thing about Anderson's work and one of the people they talked to did this long explanation of his visual stye. The thing that stayed with me is that Anderson always has a flat plane. There's almost no two point perspective in things -- even in those photos, if you're looking down a hall or whatever, there'll be a flat plane at the end. It's that visual simplification and the color palette/vintagey feel that always screams Wes Anderson at me, but I didn't realize it until that film expert explained it. (I wish I could find the thing I watched, but my Google Fu isn't fu-ing today, apparently. If I find it, I'll let you know. I think you'd like it.)
It's interesting because, when you think about it, that's a very illustrative style, with the flattened perspective. I guess the colour palette too makes it look very illustrative.
lol. I could taste the poor Uni student airline pasta offering lol. We've all been there
It was pretty dire!
Neat satory about the Post Office! Nice :D
Thanks :D
Woww I would love to visit the exposition, what a dream 😍 his colour palettes fascinate me! Your sketches are great, hard to choose a favourite 🤭 I love the deck chairs on the first one, the vision of the people and little frames on the second one and the third one well I love all the details, I used to photograph doors/windows everywhere 💙 P.S.- you are getting pro on Procreate!
Thanks so much. I've got so many photos of doors and windows too. I just can't resist.
Absolutely loved the deck chairs
Thanks. I wasn't sure if they worked or not.
Happy birthday 🎉🎉❤❤ nice video, thanks😊
Thanks for watching 😊
I love your comments on the screen- some are funny, some useful. Good video. Edit: I’m too new to art to have any regrets (regerts?) yet. I expect I will. I absolutely love the art you showed in the sketchbooks you hated.
Thanks so much. 😊
Really love your vibrant sketches!!!
Thank you
Great video Kat. I love your honesty. Birthday wishes to you🌟
Thanks so much 😊
Congrats on being a non-smoker for a whole year, well done! (ex-smoker myself).
Thanks. It's been tough!
Quitting is cool. There's no real rules to Inktober so if it doesn't feel right, I'm glad you had the energy to say no thanks. Drag that the course you took wasn't good but I'm glad you quit that too. Your artwork is beautiful and inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Yeah, I find it hard to quit when I've sunk money into something.
Happy Birthday Kat! I loved this video, thank you for saying its okay to quit something! I don't think it gets said enough. Really looking forward to the Wes Anderson video :)
Thanks for watching :D
I appreciate so much your honesty Kat ❤ I think a good artist knows when it's time to quit and it's a much braver decision than go for something, so well done You 👏👏👏 i love your imaginary cities! 😍 can't wait for the video about the Accidentally Wes Anderson exhibition, i love his work, i have the book! Btw Happy belated birthday 🥳🎉
The exhibition was very similar to the book but it had some fun interactive stuff.
I enjoy your videos, art and attitude 👍🙂 I am sorry that person hosting the class you paid for was apparently unable to behave like a decent adult😐 in a case like that I imagine quitting was quite awesome 😂👍 good for you.
Thanks. At least I tried it, right :D
Well done Kat on the quitting smoking, and it’s good to see you looking so well. For sure you’re better off working on your own art projects and not within the confines of classes and challenges. When ‘you do you’ is when you do beautiful artwork. The birthday food looked yummy
Thanks so much. The birthday food was amazing. I want to go back another time.
All those gorgeous jars of joy ❤
Thanks. They are like jewels but much cheaper :D
Very nice collection! It's my first Inktober, so watching tons of the most recent vids from different artists & topics, learning all I can about inkdom and tips for the event. Good luck! 🎨
Awesome! Thank you!
Sharpen with a knife or blade
Good idea :D
That was nice!! Lovely colors you have!🎉🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks like you are ready for the big month Kat!🎉 Are you going to do the official Inktober list or another? I love the yellow acrylic ink and the turquoise ink by Sennelier 😍 I don't use much inks, I bought my first inks this year and the ecoline liquid watercolour I bought a basic primary set years ago that I never used 😂😂 in fact I revamped it this afternoon!
I want to do the official prompts just to challenge myself because I have trouble sticking to a prompt list. The Ecoline inks are great for refilling their brush pens even if you don't use them for anything else.
Exciting and inspiring watching you getting ready!
this is beyond satisfying ☺☺
Thanks 😊
Lovely ink 🖋️ ❤🎉
