Loved this version!!

I was brought here by Poseidon Entertainment's video on the Chocolate Tour. Cause holy crap, I didn't realize people captured the older versions. Like this was THE version I remembered going on the very first time when I was a toddler.

Shoutout to the barn kitty at 3:33 . He has moved around a few times during the renovations, but 20 years later he is still in the ride! I always love saying hi to this little guy (in 2024 he is in the window above the entrance to the first show scene). I came here looking for a clip of that almond tree section I remembered. I've searched and searched but can't find any videos of the old ride where there was a little robot in front of the car narrating thru the ride. Now it's a screen with a woman speaking.

I distinctly remember at around 5:30 mark, you would get a really sharp chocolate smell, I loved it sm lol

So did they do away with that human oven you used to go through? Lol

My family went to Hershey every year on Presidents' Day weekend from 1978-1989, and it was our tradition to ride Chocolate World at the end of the trip (a big deal since Hersheypark was never open at that time of year). We bought our first video camera in June 1987 and brought it with us to Hershey in February 1988 so that we could finally have a recording of this beloved ride. It turned out to be closed for refurbishment. We were among the first people to ride it in April 1988 when the new version opened. We found the 1988 version to be inferior. They were trying to update it by having a robot tour guide on a video screen, in order to bring the ride into the computer age, but the robot was intrusive and annoying, and we preferred the classic charm of the original ride. We were really disappointed that we never got a recording of the original version. For the past several years I have searched TH-cam every so often, hoping that someone who had a recording of the original ride might have posted it. I was delighted to see that you have a video and shared it. It satisfies a longing, and a regret, that I have harbored for 36 years. Thank you! -- One question, though - what was the "refurbishment" that was done in 1987? What elements were changed that year, right before shutting it down for the big renovation of 1988? This video appears to me to be the original version of the ride as I remember it from the late 70s and early 80s.

I've been going to Hershey for over 50 years and I absolutely loved that rendition of the Chocolate World ride. It was simple, not real flashy but I think that was is charm. Thank you for posting.

I do like the singing cows, but I also like the Dioramas. I went to Hershey in 2003 or 2004, The final year of the Giant/Double Wheel, my second favorite ride at Hershey, of all time, the first being Grand Canyon River Rapids. The one with the Bronze Medal, Lightning Racer, the only one of these 3 still at the park. 4th Favorite, would go to Sky Rush than Storm Runner in 5th,

Thank you for uploading! This is the version of the chocolate world tour I remember as a kid. It felt as if you were traveling through an actual factory! It's a shame how they've dumbed it down over the years... it's more about entertainment now and less about education!

This version of the Hershey's Chocolate World "Factory Tour Ride" was introduced in Spring of 1998 during the 25th Anniversary of Chocolate World.

I love this version of the tour. I remember being on this version back in the early 2000s when I used to go to Hershey Pennsylvania every year. The Hershey’s Chocolate World song at the end is my favorite version of the song.

I think the narrator for this version ride is Robert Macgruder, the narrator for "Cheaters." It sounds like him.

I always wondered if Hershey had to get permission from Disney to build the this ride, since the moving platform and never-stopping cars are a type of " Omnimover" system, which is patented by WED Enterprises, the manufacturing division of The Walt Disney Co.

Sounds like I'm watching a 1980s Epcot ride.

Omg this is still amazing, I can see some elements like the small percussions and bells are accentuated a bit more, but there are trumpets and didgeridoos which is amazing. Although the public version sounds more refined I wouldn't mind this if it was in the game even though I think that this is a little bit more rough and not as good. I could see why the newer ride has less history and detailed facts as kids today have much less attention span. It just demonstrates how the chocolate is made now.

Little did we know, the pickers in the fields were often kids (as they had small hands) and led abusive lives working long hours for little pay.

The water curse theme is nearly the exact same song as the song "Dr. Loboto's evil plans" from the cinematic score of the first game. (Sorry I'm a HUGE music nerd, especially when it comes to psychonauts)

I remember this version of the ride as this one was the first version I ever went on. That cow is my favorite part.

This was the version I first experienced and I never thought I'd see it again. So great to see this video.
