Sugarloaf - Timberline Quad
The History:
Sugarloaf's Timberline Quad, when not on wind hold, services the Summit of Sugarloaf including their famous Snowfields. It began its life in 1988 as the Whiffletree Quad and was relocated to its present location in 1997 when that lift was replaced by a detachable quad. While there was a Timberline T-Bar along a similar alignment, that lift was removed in the 1980s leaving the upper gondola as the only way to access Sugarloaf's summit from the mid 1980s until 1997. The gondola's low capacity and wind exposure meant that it was not a reliable summit lift, thus making the Timberline Quad an improvement. That being said, Timberline still has its flaws. Its wind exposure leaves it seemingly closed more often than open, its slow speed leaves a bit to be desired, and it is inaccessible from the Bullwinkle's restaurant and Bucksaw Express lift. Sugarloaf plans to replace this lift in the next few years, but it is unclear how they will manage to solve all of Timberline's current problems.
The Lift:
Sugarloaf's Timberline Quad was originally the Whiffletree Quad and was built by Borvig in 1988. It was relocated to its present location in 1997 and features a bottom Borvig drive terminal with hydraulic tensioning, newer-style Borvig quad carriers, Leitner sheaves, a Borvig top return, and newer-style Borvig towers. Capacity is around 2,300 p/h with a design speed of 450 ft/min, although it runs slightly slower.

Sugarloaf - #3 / Bateau T-Bar
มุมมอง 22810 หลายเดือนก่อน
The History: Sugarloaf's Bateau T-Bar is one of North America's oldest lifts still in operation. It was built by Constam in 1956 and has serviced upper-mountain terrain at Sugarloaf ever since. While Sugarloaf has greatly expanded over the years, the Bateau T-Bar still plays an incredibly important role in keeping upper mountain terrain open on windy days when other nearby lifts (Skyline, Super...
Poma Competition Startup & Stop

Sugarbush’s North Ridge Express (1989 Poma Competiton detachable quad) starting up and stopping. Shortly after this was taken it broke down and remained closed for the day, as often happens.
Zürs (Arlberg) - Hexenbodenbahn
มุมมอง 50510 หลายเดือนก่อน
The History: Zürs' Hexenbodenbahn serves as the primary lift on the Trittkopf side of the area. It was built by Doppelmayr in 2005 and replaced two separate chairlifts: Hexenbodenbahn I, a fixed-grip chair, and Hexenbodenbahn II, a detachable triple chair installed in 1984. The Hexenbodenbahn rarely sees lines so like many lift upgrades throughout Arlberg, this wasn't entirely necessary, but ce...
St. Anton (Arlberg) - Valfagehrbahn
มุมมอง 91111 หลายเดือนก่อน
The History: St. Anton / Stuben's Valfagehrbahn is an extremely long Leitner detachable six-pack that carriers skiers from the Alpe-Rauz base up towards the rest of St. Anton's ski terrain. After 2016 this lift also took on a new role of carrying skiers from Lech and Zürs toward St. Anton after they take the Flexenbahn. The Lift: The Valfagehrbahn was installed by Leitner Ropeways in 2005. Leit...
St. Anton (Arlberg) - Tanzbödenbahn
มุมมอง 55611 หลายเดือนก่อน
The History: In typical fashion for Arlberg, the Tanzbödenbahn is one of many "overbuilt" lifts. Prior to 2013 when this lift was installed, a T-Bar ran on a similar alignment as three other detachable chairlifts provided access to the same plateau. While not necessary, this Doppelmayr six-pack with bubbles and heated seats was a desirable upgrade that provides another way to access the St. Ant...
St. Anton (Arlberg) - Gampenbahn
มุมมอง 40111 หลายเดือนก่อน
The History: Aside from the extremely unique Galzigbahn, the Gampenbahn serves as St. Anton's main lift. It was installed in 1990 by Doppelmayr and provides access to a wide variety of terrain as well as other lifts that allow skiers to go to higher elevation areas. While it was not crowded when I rode it, I suspect this lift gets quite crowded during peak periods as it and the Galzigbahn are t...
St. Anton (Arlberg) - Vallugalift
มุมมอง 28111 หลายเดือนก่อน
The History: St. Anton's Vallugalift has become infamous amongst skiers in the area due to its extremely steep final pitch. After taking the Vallugabahn I cable car, to ski back to St. Anton, skiers must take this T-Bar. While it is a short ride, the last pitch will throw off many people who are new to T-Bar lifts. The Lift: The Vallugalift was installed in 1969 by Doppelmayr and while its hist...
HoliMont Ski Club - Sunset Triple
มุมมอง 420ปีที่แล้ว
The History: HoliMont's Sunset Triple is perhaps the least interesting lift at the mountain in terms of the terrain it accesses. Generally, Sunset is a family friendly lift serving a few novice runs and providing access to numerous condos and homes. It was installed in 1987 and manufactured by CTEC and likely was the first lift in the area (not much information can be found as to if anything wa...
HoliMont Ski Club - Greer Double
มุมมอง 320ปีที่แล้ว
The History: HoliMont's origins trace back to the 1930s, with some of the earliest skiing in New York served by a rope tow on Greer Hill. HoliMont officially commenced operations in 1962 over where the Exhibition Express operates now. Fast forward to 1982 and a Borvig double was installed where the Cascade Quad sits now. This lift operated for 13 years until it was replaced by a Garaventa-CTEC ...
HoliMont Ski Club - Cascade Quad
มุมมอง 337ปีที่แล้ว
The History: HoliMont's Cascade Quad was installed in 1995 and was manufactured by Garaventa-CTEC. It replaced a 1982 Borvig double that now operates nearby as the Greer lift. By installing Cascade and relocating the old lift, it allowed them to open the new Greer Hill section of the mountain. Second to the Exhibition area, Cascade is generally the second most popular lift on the mountain and s...
HoliMont Ski Club - Meadow Double
มุมมอง 301ปีที่แล้ว
The History: HoliMont's Meadow Double was installed in 1980 and built by Borvig. It is unclear if Meadow replaced a lift or if it was a new alignment altogether, but from what I can gather, no lift was previously operating on its alignment. Meadow serves the middle section of Holimont to the skier's right of Exhibition. Most terrain off of Meadow can be accessed from the Exhibition Express so M...
HoliMont Ski Club - Exhibition Express
มุมมอง 563ปีที่แล้ว
The History: While Holimont's origins go back to the Greer Hill area of the mountain, its main base area for the past 40 years or so has been the Exhibition Area. From 1992 until 2012, a CTEC fixed-grip quad similar to Cascade was the main lift in this area and was called the Expo Quad. In 2012 Holimont decided to install their first (and only) detachable lift. The Exhibition Express runs along...
Sugarbush - Heaven's Gate Triple
มุมมอง 595ปีที่แล้ว
The History: By 1984, Sugarbush's Carlevaro & Savio gondola was starting to show its age. It was installed in 1958 as Lincoln Peak's first lift stretching from the Valley House Lodge at the base of the mountain all the way to Lincoln Peak's summit. Since this lift had 3 passenger cabins, a relatively slow line speed, vintage detachable technology, and far cabin spacing, it had a low capacity an...
Sugarbush - Super Bravo Express
มุมมอง 823ปีที่แล้ว
The History: Installed in 1995, Sugarbush's Super Bravo Express is their three season workhorse lift. Before Les Otten's massive investments and after three new high capacity lifts were installed at Mt. Ellen, Lincoln Peak's lift system was a disaster. Sugarbush was a major ski area in 1994 that had a fixed-grip triple as its main out of base lift. This triple was known as the Sugar Bravo Tripl...
Will you be able to visit Hunter, and record the new Broadway Express and Otis Quad lifts?
Ill admit that this lift goes dangerously low in 4:22. I hope they can fix that at some point
They'll be replacing this lift with a Doppelmayr high speed six next year.
I swear, Killington must hold some kinda record for "most abandoned trails."
For some reason, the original Stadeli had bullwheel unloading, but they didn't change the 3 leg terminal. That terminal design is super rare and only 1 still stands. That Stadeli would be Chair 1 at Sandia (1963-2017)
Ski Rio still has their 1959 Riblet double from Stowe for some reason. Ski Rio purchased in in 1985
Imagine if the quad also ran in a triangle like the old lift 💀
The drive for this lift is neat; the gearbox, main motor, and service brake are stacked up on top of each other (Doppelmayr calls it the Sector Drive). Would be cool if some of these drive systems were built in the states.
I don’t know about them Stockli drivers 😛
I like it when there are expert terrain pods served by low-capacity chairlifts. Arapahoe Basin’s Pallavicini pod is one, as is Sugarbush’s Castlerock pod.
Thanks for making this video! I was reading an article by the guy who wrote All 750 lifts in North America and he said this left was his favorite in the Northeast.
I am in the line when this was filmed
No bar?
The one in California is now called Wa She Shu.
That’s crazy how you can see the old northeast passage towers behind the loading station
What do you think the future is for these 2 lifts on snowshed?
Most likely a new higher capacity detachable replacing Snowshed Express and this double getting removed.
@@teddysliftworldyea that’s what I’m thinking but do you think it will be an eight or a six pack
I wonder if the ever replaced little pico or knones knoll and move that here I personally see no reason to replace this as it runs 20 days a year if that the hike up to the top isn’t bad either
Silly child
This lift has not run since before Covid it has been confirmed it will never run again I wish it would mt Ellen needs a beginner area walking up this sucks yes lincon has a carpet but I think haveing one here would help
Guy making the video cut off little kids in line…… cries about someone else who is clearly a beginner, dude is a douchebag. I have almost 40 years of experience, free riding, backcountry, park, skiing, snowboarding, all over the US, the Alps, you name it. I’m not out here making fun of people with lesser ability than me, what a child. Shitty human being.
Ride time: 4:13 (253 seconds) Line length: 1397 ft (1397 / 253) *60 = 331 fpm operating speed in video This is my opinion and some may disagree with me but I think Partek is the best thing to happen to the ski lift industry in the 21st century. Providing less expensive new lifts to ski hills that can't afford the fancy complicated fixed grips offered by the big 2, and also not giving in to getting bought out. Long live Borvigs and Halls, the pride of New York!!
Ride time: 5:44 (344 seconds) Line length: 5689 ft (5689 / 344) *60 = 992 fpm operating speed in video
Ride time: 9:52 (592 seconds) Line length: 3924 ft (3924 / 592) *60 = 398 fpm operating speed in video
Ride time: 2:24 (142 seconds) Line length: 2369 ft (2369 / 142) *60 = 1001 fpm operating speed in video Seems Ellicottville, being the posh skiing destination that it is, is the land of quick detachables!
Ride time: 5:45 (345 seconds) Line length: 2638 ft (2638 / 345) *60 = 459 fpm operating speed in video
Ride time: 4:50 taking into consideration 1 slow down (290 seconds) Line length: 1895 ft (1895 / 290) *60 = 392 fpm operating speed in video
Ride time: 5:40 taking into consideration 1 stop (340 seconds) Line length: 2510 ft (2510 / 340) *60 = 443 fpm operating speed in this video
I can’t be the only one watching this like: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! 🤬 mother f-
Do you sit on it?
I wish I could ski here but my dad snowboards
Very similar to Pallavicini at A-Basin.
Where is the fence that would stop this?
Is this in Jasná in Slovakia?
Yeah, those women were over their heads, but why did you cut off those children in the line?
The resort should take their lift tickets away from them. Please go straight to Apres Ski. I have a feeling they are the type who head straight to Apres Ski on future ski trips. 🤦🏻♂️🙂
Nor funny
Shame regarding the YAN detachable grips. Sierra at Tahoe had to replace its three following a fatal incident in 1995. I just like.
*Promo sm*
That is the most bunny hill if I ever saw one.. That onloading looks a little nasty though. Just let them off, possibly fall, learn from their mistakes and let them down the mountain. What a waste of everyone's time having them to lift down again. Again, why would anyone do a quad Karen and film people trying to learn how to ski, promoting themselves to be better, taking the EXACT SAME LIFT?
What a sh.tty ski lift - these things were dumped eons ago here in Europe!
At least they knew to just ride it back down. Better than taking out someone else trying to fumble down the slope.
That's definitely a people mover 😊 👍
I'm curious as to where the competition carriers rumor came from... this is the first I've heard of it.
There's a video and some photos I believe of this lift with competition carriers on it around when it was first installed. There's a Killington promotional video from the early '90s that shows Canyon with them.
I believe this is the oldest operating T-Bar in North America
How often does this lift run? I want to ride it
Sometimes it runs on busy weekends, but usually it’s closed unless Skyline goes on wind hold.
And the glades are still not opened 😔
The weather's wild at the top.
How did you upload two lift videos within a minute of each other? 😭lol
Did you film this today?
Wednesday when Skyline was on wind hold.
@@teddysliftworld that really stinks that most of the mountain was closed. Traveling to an area during a windhold day is always tense, especially knowing that there’s a 50/50 chance most of the mountain will open up. Do you think you’ll get the chance to go back to Sugarloaf this season?
@@tucker.84 It wasn’t too bad since they had SuperQuad open as well. I was able to ski Tuesday when everything except King Pine was open. I was only up for this past week and probably won’t be back again this season unfortunately.
@@teddysliftworld Heard the new Bucksaw Express is great!
@@TwinSkiingLiftsRides it is did you know it was the old swift current express at big sky
Slide Brook just opened this past Friday. It was running faster than it usually does, around 950 fpm, or 4.8 m/s. Hopefully Sugarbush can keep this lift going for a few more years.
