Ravel marked the beginning of Ondine "PPP." In most cases this would mean extremely quiet, an enormous challenge for any pianist. The master and the student here played no quieter than mezzo forte or mezzo piano. But I saw no discussion of this. I'm not saying that PPP is easy or even possible in Ondine, or that Perlemuter was a bad player, or even that Ravel was a bad composer. Au contraire! Just saying that I wanted some discussion of the dynamics, that's all.

The playing was the surperbe but the conducting is on another level. The French orchestra was really a whole another beast at the time.

I always enjoy Perlemuter. There are surprising emphases in this reading that are new to me.

Ce que Vlado a de remarquable, dans ses cours d'interprétation, c'est qu'il s'adresse autant au public qu'aux élèves venus travailler sous ses conseils. Et il est d'une patience...

Un témoignage d'une très grande humilité, Merci à Piano Avenue de nous l'avoir restitué : c'est un véritable document historique que Perlemuter, grand témoin de Ravel, nous donne avec sa très grande modestie. Il était l'une des relations de ma famille, je l'ai rencontré plusieurs fois à Paris durant mes études, au sein de sa propre famille.

En découvrant cet enregistrement , je retrouve les mêmes qualités ( musicalité avec priorité à l'harmonie , poèsie , profondeur dissimulée surnaturellement par une apparente naïveté...) d'une répétition générale à Radio-France où j'avais eu la chance d'être invité - j'étais disquaire- classique au Palais-Royal dans les années 75 - ; dirigé par Z.Kosler tellement fasciné par la cadence du I° mouvement qu'il en a oublié de redémarrer avec l'orchestre... On connait le Perlemuter tardif de chez Nimbus ; on oublie son intégrale des sonates de Mozart Vox 56 (réédité !) et ses disques de la Guilde : integrale des Préludes de Chopin , récital Chopin , Truite de Schubert etc. Merci de nous avoir permis d'entendre cet enregistrement de Beethoven , qui rejoint les plus grands poètes du piano : Arrau , Gieseking , Serkin dans un genre différent... Abbé Daniel-Paul BILIS , curé à l'abbaye d'Ambronay.
