I could be wrong but I had though pervitin was a precursor to methamphetamine which was an amphetamine that then was created into methamphetamine in Japan. I don’t believe it was such a disaster to be on like the short film portrays it to be. Western military also used their own form of stimulants for pilots for example to be able to endure longer flights

Older brother was in U.S. Army M1-Abrams tank unit stationed in Germany during late '80's, early 90's. He said that if war started, they'd been given pills to take to keep them alert in the first days of hard combat. They got a 3-day supply of a type of amphetamine. When he asked why they only provided such a short supply of pills, he was told by his sergeant that if they survived 3-days of combat on the stuff, they were expected to suffer a physiological crash where they basically would enter a coma-like deep sleep of exhaustion and become combat-ineffective. Aside from that, their unit was considered a "trip-wire" unit who'd be facing the full force of the enemy offensive in the Fulda Gap and they weren't expected to live beyond more than around 3-days of combat. Yikes!

Pervitin was forbidden in early 1941. Some say the SS used Pervitin at the first attacks of Operation Nothwind in January 1945. But it was never distributed again for whole divisions or armies like in the Blitzkrieg of 1940.
