It's not the outside lane that is the problem now, it's the people who insist on staying in the middle lane doing 60MPH, this causes two issues. Firstly people in the inside lane cannot undertake so have to pull out into the right lane to overtake and then pull in two lanes to get back to the inside lane. Secondly there are lots of vehicles that are not allowed in the outside lane so they are stuck and cannot overtake. I assume these middle lane hoggers are frightened to be in the left lane as their lack of confidence and poor driving means they struggle with cars joining the motorway. The sad thing is I suspect they think they are the safest drivers on the road and everyone else is a maniac.

My dad bought the "executive" corolla in 90s as a second hand car with 100K km on a clock. Then I drove it, my brother did and we sell it with over 400K km done without an issue .... 5:23 Clarkson said " It's as exiting as Thomas Hardy " :) I don't think he mean what it means now, but good point ;)

Back when 40mpg was a big deal even in small cars. I remember there was a Mazda which was basically just a re badged version if this.

It's 2024 and we can see the inspiration of this design (executive) taken by civic from the front and Prius at the back.

For me the lifback of that model was and still is the one of best compact cars ever built

Have a 1995 1.3 liftback just on 30 years old same model Paint not so good 125000 km on the clock Use it every day around town here in New Zealand. Best clutch gearbox combination I have ever driven Dont see any of the other supposedly more sophisticated and interesting cars at all these days

how many cool British cars have failed due to strikes? I fell in love with British cars an the history, an it seems a lot have the same story. Manufacture will make a car that everyone is excited about get a ton of pre orders..... and no one wants to work! We have our problems with the hive minded here in the states as well.

I had one in 1997 and it looked nothing like these, differrnt style in Asia. And a second one in 2020. Totally changed but still had the efficent but humdrum feel. Works well.

Only issue with corollas in the UK has been rust due to our shite weather. But globally corolla is the king of the road. Most reliable car in history.

I learned to drive in a Mazda 323, in 1984. To this day, I have never driven a car with a smoother, lighter and easier to use gearbox. My mate has just bought a used Corolla Hybrid and it’s very impressive- build quality, fully loaded, 70 mpg- fabulous car.
