    So good to listen to the great John Peel again...

    That tool kit in the boot was a work of art in itself.

    It's great to hear, once again, the previously familiar voice of John Peel; it's been quite a while.

    I'm not much younger than Kerry Schroeder, but I remember being shocked as a kid when my father told me that Armstrong Siddeley were still making those cars in 1960. Compared to my Corgi Mercedes 600 they looked antediluvian.

    The Dockers were like Lotto winners with more money than class.

    Well, I would never have had a Rolls Royce down as a "practical" car, but that state one with a complete toolkit *and* spare parts is incredible! To think today where most cars don't even carry a spare wheel, let alone toolkit is even more remarkable.

  • @jagmarc
    @jagmarc ปีที่แล้ว +6

    22:51 the extensive set of spares isn't for breakdowns, they're there to prevent one, utilised in the same manner one would carry an umbrella to reduce the chance of rain.

    I love that Bentley Continental and the Armstrong Siddeley .
    There is something with Brittish luxury cars no German or whatever brand car has , they have majestic presence without a whim of agression , allways sympathetic .
    Unique !

      Unlike my XJ Portfolio, which looks downright aggressive from the front (and no doubt, in your rear view mirror)! However, inside, it reverts to typ; being like a London gentleman’s Club on wheels - with all the hi tech 21st century gadgets. My car does in excess of 155mph - but where can I drive.it like that, one has to keep in mind that if the needle is half way around the clock, it’s already. doing 90mph.

    Many British motorcars of the 1950's were indeed stylistically old fashioned if not truly obsolete. But compared to more streamlined models, they were much more elegant, refined, and beautiful.

    My 1965 Black/Black Jaguar Mark 10 has every bit of presence as these. And it does not leave an oil stain on the floor like the 'missing' Rolls Royce from the stable! Of course the 'Royals' used the DS420 for decades.

    One is tempted to say "They don't make them like that any more (Thank heaven), " I owned a Bentley R-type, a fascinating combination of the archaic and the modern.

    11:30 - The man nails it and explains why Bentley went out of business. 50 years on they are still making spare parts for a car that they only ever see maybe once every 10 years in the shop !!!
