Grandstream SoftwareUCM - How To Setup - Episode 2
Grandstream SoftwareUCM - How To Setup - Episode 2
In this second video in my Grandstream SoftwareUCM PBX setup series I will take you through setting up a Grandstream WP816 Cordless WiFi telephone and linking it to the Grandstream SoftwareUCM PBX so that incoming calls are routed to our VOIP telephone and this also then allows outbound calls to be made. I will also show you how to setup a Ring Group in the SoftwareUCM so that all incoming calls are directed to your chosen extensions at the same time or a group of extensions so that they can either ring simultaneously or in sequence one after the other for any incoming calls.
If you haven't already installed the Grandstream SoftwareUCM then please see my video link here which will show you step by step on how to install the SoftwareUCM on a GMKtec G3 Mini PC which is being used as the Grandstream SoftwareUCM PBX.

Excellent video mate.. you wouldn't believe how many people make videos and miss out the detail a newbie would need to get it done 😊
Thanks for taking the time to do it step by step .i have 2 pc's ,2 tablets and a phone is it possible to use a single ubikey on all of them bearing in mind the tablets dont have nfc ? Thanks
@10:48 - at this point i am stuck. when i power down my VM, remove the ISO file in Virtualbox, then power up the VM, I get to this screen above @10:30 when i type "support" and press "enter", it ask for a password, not for a new password. I have deleted and reinstall this SoftwareUCM 4 times, and it's the same every time.
Tim I did it and used my yubikey to login to windows but I did not generate the recovery code. Do I have to redo everything to get the recovery code? I do have a bunch of backup codes.
Hey Kathy, As you have generated backup codes that's fine, so if your Yubikey does fail or your unable to use it for some reason you can use any one of your backup codes to access your account.
Great video, m8. I'm just coming in on networking and, thank God, you explained it without over-explaining nor too much technical jargon; it's actually pretty clear now how this stuff works. You're a life-saver!
Wow thanks very much for your very kind comments. Glad I was able to help you and you were able to follow along and understand things. Sometimes it's difficult to try to explain things without being technical, sounds like I did a good job in this case 🙂 Thanks again and welcome to the world of computer networking, hope you're enjoying it and finding new things out. Keep it up 😁👍
Can you see per device transfer speeds or just total activity?
If you go in to each device in the list of clients you should find the transfer speeds their.
Tim I am so glad you went step by step for us newbies. Some youtubers have a lot of great info but go through things so fast that I can't keep up. My issue is I bought a 5cnfc and a security only nfc key which is cheaper. I wanted it to be a backup. I was able to install the 5c nfc with the code number on the back of the key but can't figure out how to install my security only key as the backup. Are they saying that if you buy a backup key, it must be the same model number?
I did as you said and have my yubico authenticator on my laptop. I did use my phone to scan qr code.
@ Hi Thanks for your kind words and comment. You could use another model of key but you would need to make sure that it supports the right services between both of them, if you intending using one as a backup. Ahh I think you need to use the same device to scan the QR code that you use your account on. I would recommend using the same model of yubikey for both regular use and as a backup.
@@MrTimTech2022 Thanks Tim. I contacted the company and will return the other key.
@@kathygoding5245 Hey Kathy, thanks for the update, that's great you're able to return it ok. I should be doing a video soon, not sure when but it's on my list of 'to do's' about how to use a 2nd key as a backup Yubikey, so you may find that useful when I release that.
Good video Tim. I installed the SoftwareUCM yesterday on a Ugreen NAS VM. It' fast and installed without any issues. Going to add a few phones this week. Have a great day.
Thanks Tony. Ahh brilliant, like you mention I also found it fast and responsive too. Good luck, let me know how you get on with adding the phones etc 🙂 I just finished testing/setup of the Trunks etc (transfered over from my GCC6011) and have just now transfered my phones to it. No issues at all so far, working just like a GCC PBX bit or UCM should. I did disable the PBX function of course, in my GCC to save any conflicts with the Trunk. Keep going and let me know how you get on. Have a great day too!
My yubicokey has firmware 5.7.1 and has FIDO U2F and FIDO2 when I open the Yubico authenticator there is no option to add an account. Is this because OATH is not installed? If so how to install OATH, if not why does the authenticator not have the option for me to add an account? Thanks!
In the Yubico Authenticator there should be some options to enable or disable features, did you check that those you need are enabled ?
hey will this fit in my desktop usb a port??
Yes Yubikeys do work in both USB Type A and Type C ports, just make sure your Yubikey has the right connector on it (USB A or USB C). If you have say a USB A port and your Key is C then you can buy an adapter on the internet for just a few pounds.
FINALLY AHHHHH
You're welcome
Hi, video is nice, but why none of you guys mentions at the beginning that not every qnap NAS has option to virtualize? All the videos are made for beginners, which is great, but this information is missed. So IT-rookies like me are spending lot of time searching for the virtualization station app and googling why there is not such an app on their NAS. :(
Thanks for your comment. Apologies I hadn't realised that some models don't allow virtualization. I am usinga TS-462 model in this video. Which model do you have ?
Hi Tim, very useful video, clear step-by-step explanation! You got a new subscriber! Thank you! cheers :)
Hey Pete, thank you very much indeed. Glad you liked the video and found it very easy to follow. I think as I get older I have to do things slowly 😂
@MrTimTech2022 I see your point and feel the same as will be 50 in March. ;) How did you configure home assistant to be accessible from outside when you are away from home?
@@PeteN75 Hey Pete, ha ha 🙂. To be honest I have yet to configure this instance of Home Assistance to be accessible from the outside world as I haven't needed to so far. However I'm happy to do a video on that if you want ? It might not be straight away but I can certainly put it on my list of videos to do! I believe there is a built in remote access option but from memory (although haven't checked recently) it's a paid for service, but cheap from what I recall.
Thank's Tim, for the info. I'm slowly losing the will to live, trying to add a second Yubibkey to my Google Gmail account. When I click to add Google indicates that I must use another computer? Keep smiling, Chris
Very odd, I wonder if your internet browser or similar is somewhere still automatically logged in to Google. I know from past experience that sometimes when I've closed the browser and then re-opened it, i've been automatically logged back in. Had to force the browser to not remember me and to click logout manually. Just open up Google account in a browser and then actually manually select logout, see if that works!
Best Practices is to create an "Object" under Profiles with the Static IP addresses and then in your Source/Destination use the Object name instead of an IP address. This way if you decide to ever change the IP address of a device, all you have to do is change the address in the "Object" from the Network Object under Profiles (or add another IP address if you have multiple devices--like multiple Apple TVs or multiple NAS devices). Then when you add or change the Firewall rule, all you have to use is the Object name and not have to remember the IP address(es) of your device(s).
Hey @Polkster13 - Thanks for the feedback/comment, good tip there in fact. Will give that a go sometime 🙂
Hi Tim, Great information. Question for you, How to add a second Yubikey to an account. Thanks.
Thanks very much. It does depend on the website/account as some allow multiple credentials to be added so in that case I would just add another key in the same account/user.
Hi Tim, thank you for these two videos, sadly I have messed up somewhere in the process. I think - after watching your videos a few times that I found my error. Can you just clarify that you are not actually installing Ubuntu on the gm - you only use it from the usb drive to get home assistant loaded?
Hey and thanks for your comment/question. Oh dear, it's easily done and it took me a couple of time initially to get it right as I was a little confused about Ubuntu. But you are correct YES - Ubuntu is not actually being installed as such, it just runs as a live OS FROM THE bootable USB Memory Stick. Hope this helps and fingers crossed you're able to get it running now. Basically we are just using Ubuntu OS from the Memory stick to get an option to format the GMKtec internal drive and then use the Ubuntu live OS to install Home Assistant with.
@@MrTimTech2022 Mr. Tim, happy to report that it’s now working. Thanks for your feedback on this.,
@@bjrnrasmussen8035 That's brilliant, thanks for the update, really responsive on these GMKtec's isn't it. Easy to update too when Home Assistant release any main, core/OS updates.
Hi .What is the differences between option of “nas based rsync server and compatitable server. When ı watched other videos most of guys choosing “compatitable server option. Is there any differences beetwen them? Thanks in advance
Good question. I haven't actually tested it using Compatible Server as the guide/info I researched used Rsync but I highly suspect that using 'Compatible Server' is actually just testing the system to see what services it finds as being compatible automatically and then maybe picks Rsync anyway.
Thank you
You're welcome @AltaiiSinan - I will be doing some more Alta Labs videos soon, so you may want to keep a look out for those too😀
How good is the antivirus and IPS engines? do you have any reference?
From what I've done research on and been told that it's 'Enterprise Grade', also gets regular updates and is working very well in fact
What kind of network rack is in the thumbnail? Thanks!
I've been asked that a few times as people seem to like it. I'm happy with it and would certainly buy again should I ever need additional ones. It's from a UK based company but I'm sure they will do international shipping or would be able to recommend someone in your country, if you're outside the UK. It's from a company called Orion and their web is rackcabinets.co.uk - the one I use is a 12U and it's name is a '12U FS Rack Cabinet 600 x 600' model FS12-6-6-G Hope this helps.
Can you do a version for PIP for a smart TV/ tv box?
That would be a challenge, keep a look out in the future and I may well do something like that but can't promise of course, but it's on my list!
nice setup keep up great work
Cheers J 😃👍
@MrTimTech2022 thank you
I purchased 3 Ybukeys to protect my credit card accounts sign-ins online; then I found out that there is NO WAY to remove the alternate ways to get into those accounts through my email address and/or my SMS. Yubikey and its competitors should post a huge warning label on their packaging and websites to this effect which ca be seen before purchase! Especially since hundreds of thousands of people or more have had their emails and SMS no.s posted on the Dark Web!
WOW Thank you verry much! Better than chatgpt!
Haha thank you 🙂at least I learn with a REAL brain too lol well sometimes 😂
Is there an option to move the camera lens up or down using joystick from the app interface or do we have to manual set it by removing the dome at installation on the wall? Thank you.
I don't think the lens is supposed to be removed at all as it's sealed but you could remove it for replacement I guess if necessary. I will be doing another video as soon as we get a bit better weather (milder) with it being installed so I will do some testing in that video. Keep a look out for that soon hopefully!
very well made tutorial, thanks 💯
Thanks very much, you're very welcome
Excellent video Tim! Well explained, to the point, and easy to understand.
Hey Tony, good to hear from you and Happy New Year to you - although seems like ages ago now! Thanks very much indeed, looking forward to seeing some more videos from you soon, I keep checking ;-) 😉 P.S. I have the Grandstream SoftwareUCM video coming soon too😀
Hello how can I make a backup if a yubikey should break from the same yubikey
You should have two or three keys and set them all up on the account together. Also, copy the QR code someplace safe as a backup. And I believe the account should give you the option of printing emergency codes to use in the event you lose your key.
Thank you for patiently walking through this so I didn't need to keep stopping and rewinding like most instruction videos make you do. Very helpful!
Hey Marty - Thank you so much for your great comment, it's very much appreciated. I also find videos on some channels hard to follow because they rush, like you say making it hard to follow, hence I try to make them slower and easy to follow. Thank you so much and hope you're enjoying some of my other videos too!
Good video Tim :)
Thank you very much Mr J
Thanks for your videos
You're welcome
I have to say the more I am starting to want to leave the cloud entirely, the more appealing Grandstream gear is becoming. Everyone I have talk to that uses it says they set it up and really never have to touch it again. It just works reliably.
Hey Justin, I totally agree with you, I'm not one for using the cloud as much as I can, hence liking Grandstream gear. It is very reliable from my experience, I've not had any major issues with it. Plus you can run your own network manager/controller locally on your own hardware as a virtual machine too if you want, or just use each piece individually which when you think about it makes it very secure as you need separate user accounts for each device so if someone gets hold of one password it's unlikely they will get in to other devices with different passwords. Very nicely priced too I find, great value for money for what you get!
Having just purchased a couple of yubikeys I’ve watched many youtube videos on how to set them up. This has been the best due to everything being explained at a nice steady pace rather than at 1000mph. Thanks
Hey David, thanks very much for your kind words, glad you liked the video, found it helpful and like you say easy to follow, which is always what I strive to do with my tutorial videos. Thanks again 😁
Good video Tim !
Thank you very much. I must get up to date with watching yours too! Been trying to get through my list of videos I have to do. Finally had a day totally free and undisturbed where I have managed to edit and render out 3 videos that are scheduled for release 🙂
Thanks
HI Tim. I am trying to do a workaround for the voice issue on Home assistant. I am thinking of loading the Reolink app on my wall panel and add HAS and my phone and wife's phone as added users. the question is how do i pop up the Reolink app on the wall panel when door bell is pressed and then return to HAS screen when closed? This should theoretically allow me to communicate with person at the door?
@ I explain in this video how to do the pop up, did you watch all the video ?
Wow thank you for the donation, I didn't realise. I think you are my very first donation. Thank you.😁
I'm hugely grateful to you for all your time and expertise in creating your unique and very informative videos, which help relative novices like me feel more confident in taking control of our home networks and creating greater security. I really value that you are not just focussed on one brand. Might you consider looking at the best practices for taking an existing flat network without VLANS and migrating over to a more segregated network with VLANS, whilst preventing minimal downtime in the home network? I am due to invest in Alta Labs now, thanks to the clarity of your videos. Thank you
Well thank you very much for your very kind words, this is very much appreciated and I'm very pleased you like my varied content I produce. I try not to just stick with one brand and try to be as diverse as possible with different brands. In fact I'm going to be doing some more Alta Labs videos very soon and I will be doing such things as getting more advanced by creating VLANS etc. Alta Labs gear is great, very powerful, excellent build quality and reliable. What I like the best is that their management interface is not cluttered like some other ones, they keep things clean, tidy and easy to follow in their interface. Hope you enjoy your Alta Labs equipment and keep a look out for more videos for Alta Labs very soon!
Great! Many thanks sir!
You're very welcome
How are these routers gwn7003 for home usage? And what sqm do you get in buffer bloat test? And did you tried to connect internet directly with sfp Transceiver would it work with epon onu? Thanks again
I haven't done a Buffer Bloat test and no I haven't tried to connect it directly with an SFP Transceiver. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with EPON. I would raise a ticket with Grandstream to be 100% sure it would work with EPON.
@MrTimTech2022 thanks and do Please share bufferbloat test results
It’s too large for door mounting in my opinion
It's not that large, I don't find any problem with it being door mounted, not too large but I guess we all have our own opinions on it. To be honest I haven't used mine for a long time now as I felt it wasn't really worth any purpose. A security camera is a better choice.
This rack mount is my biggest gripe with Ubiquiti. Expensive and constantly out of stock. The switch mounting holes don’t line up with anything.
I know what you mean, it's really expensive for the rackmount kit for what it is really. It should have been made for standard rackmount ears in my opinion.
Hi, sorry I disturb you, just quick how to setup slzb-06 as zigbee router?
It doesn't take too long, basically as long as it takes in this video. Just follow along and you should be able to do it fairly quickly.
Absolutely love the setup tutorial on the 6010 - nice job! I'm trying to decide which Grandstream router to buy and I have a question you may be able to answer: With the 6010, is there any ability to do inter-VLAN tag/untag on the routing tab, or do I absolutely need the switch to do that? Thanks so much in advance!
Hey, thanks very much indeed. The 6010 of course not only is a Router but it also has a PBX included in it, although you don't have to enable that option, in which case you can just use the Routing function in it and add on (enable) the PBX later should you wish. The good thing about the GCC6010 and 6011 is that they have 2.5Gbit WAN ports (SFP ones) and also a 2.5Gbit SFP LAN port too. In answer to your question, you can create VLANS on the GCC and you can tag those VLANS to any of the LAN ports as you wish. Hope that helps.
😇😇😇thank u mate
You're welcome, glad you found the video useful.
thanks chad
I’ve slipped down the rabbit hole of unifi products. I will never buy but I can always dream 😢. Thanks for the video!
You're welcome. They are addictive as far as their ecosystem. Mind you I do look at other products now as Unifi do seem over priced compared with some others. It all depends on individual budgets I guess and individual choices. But yeah we can all dream for some of their products 😉
Interesting video man. This is what I was looking for before I buy a zigbee stick. 🙂 Later, we will se if the signal is strong enough to connect to a sensor inside the fridge. 🙂
Hey, thanks very much, that's great, glad you found it at the right time 😀 Umm, I'm not sure if it would work with a sensor inside a fridge with the fridge doors being quite thick padding & metal outside. Mind you the signal from my dongle is inside a floor standing network cabinet with a metal & perspex door and this reaches my zigbee bulbs which some are outside through thick brick walls, solid doors with glass panes and then the bulbs are inside chrome light fittings. So you may well be in luck with your fridge, fingers crossed 🤞😀 Let me know how you get on 😉
I've got a QNAP 133 single 8TB drive that I've set up; however, my WIN10 Pro computer will not allow it to be used to perform backups. I can find the drive using the WIN 10 backup software, but all progress stops there. Do you have any tips on how to proceed. I have been able to create a shared file on the QNAP drive and the PC but haven't figured out how to use it.
I would suggest that on your Win10 PC you map a network drive to the folder on the QNAP (see my video th-cam.com/video/StcdbCwGvgY/w-d-xo.html) and make sure you use a user account to access it which is a user account from your QNAP that has both 'Read & Write' access. The in the Win10 Backup software you should be able to select that 'Shared Folder/Network Drive' letter to backup to. Hopefully this makes sense and it should definately work
@@MrTimTech2022 Thank you for your reply. I discovered the error of my ways. I was using my QNAP login credentials instead of my TS-133 device credentials. The Device is now happily connected and backing up my PC which I am expecting it to take 4-5 days for the first backup to complete. The incremental backups after that should be much shorter. I have lots of pictures.
@@BTimmer You're welcome, happy to help where I can. Ahh that makes sense and to be honest it's easily done, I did that testing backups too, using wrong device credentials. Wow that's some large backup, like you say it should speed up with future incremental backups. Let's hope you never need to do a full restore over 4-5 days ☺ Mind you to start off, often backup times say days and then speed up at various points and thus times get reduced quite a lot, so hopefully it's done for you now!
I just found your channel 🙂 I set this up on an Android tablet about a month ago, based on another video. I'm glad I did because my laptop crashed (permanently) a few days ago and the phone screen is too small to do anything significant in HA. I love the Kiosk setup! I have three Android tablets and dedicated one strictly for kiosk browser mode, plus the tablet is LTE, so I don't necessarily need WiFi.
@mdavidf - Thanks for finding my channel and hope you like my content. That's not good about your laptop crashing, hope you're able to fix it or get it repaired. I agree I sometimes access HA via my phone and it's almost useless for the HA Dashboard. It is great having the Kiosk, wow that's some tablets for Kiosks, think I'll stick with my one tablet 😉. That's handy having the LTE on your tablet for accessing HA. By the way what are you running HA on ? I'm using a GMKtec Intel NUC mini PC dedicated for running HA. Anyway hope you find my channel useful in future. I have plans for more HA related videos in the future!
I'm still struggling to connect Sonoff 3.0 Dongle, but this is a great video with lots of great info.
That's a shame, obviously something missing or causing the issue, have you checked the log file to see if anything stands out, maybe post someting on the community forum for Home Assist as they tend to know how to interpret the log files. Thanks for the kind words, is everything up to date with Home Assist and the zigbee integrations, might be fixed in a newer version.
