Nice piloting! I've only ever played vanilla Freelancer (I know, I'm a heathen lol). This gameplay kinds of reminds me of Starpoint Gemini where you command similar sized ships rather than single seat ships in vanilla Freelancer.

This server still going strong? I've been thinking about hopping on to try it. Been a Freelancer fan since release but never tried Discovery.
Yeah, Discovery is still going strong! There's also the 5.1 update right around the corner, so it's as good a time to join as ever

Glad you're enjoying the content! We're at version 5.0 now, with 5.1 coming up shortly. A lot has changed since 4.86, so it may be worth checking out again!

Will people that just want to play online ever be allowed to join without the forced RP??? This mod seems the be the only one left alive online but I just wanna play the game... not be forced into RP conversations every 10 mins (happend to me last time I played years ago)
Throwing just a few RP lines before engaging is no biggy, c'mon! RP justifies interactions.
@@albrechtniemann8027not everyone is really into roleplay.. It's not a big deal if they just want to be introverted in the universe. Maybe given time they would grow more comfortable.

Any idea of where a returning pilot can find the change log? Got too many questions with the 5.0 "update".
The update is so extensive that the dev team wasn't actually able to produce proper patch notes for it. The most important changes (gameplay reworks, economy rework, etc.) are documented in the "Patch When" dev blogs.

How do you get the rock glowing when you are approching them in asteroid field?
There was a Star Wars mod for Freelancer once. I think the Team behind it managed to make the Turrets target and fire automatically. Would be absolutely nice if Discovery had this feature as well.
As someone who's freshly returning to Disco - do these anomalies send you normally into uncharted systems? Or is this purely event-based?
Normally they don't do anything at all (other than dose you with radiation). This was a spontaneous event run by one of the devs

It looks like this you've been destroying NPC. It seems to me that 4 bombers with this configuration can destroy the entire fleet. Oh, how stupid it is, nothing has changed in the game.
The capital ships were not equipped to take on bombers and didn't have a single fighter covering them. Bombers are meant to destroy capital ships. Fighters are meant to destroy bombers.

Isn't Order the alien eradicators? Aren't Nomads humanity's worst enemies? Tf are you all doing standing around chatting with each other? I was watching for 20 minutes hoping to see some action only to see everyone kind of go away and after that you went back to chat with the alien? This whole "RP" thing is ridiculous. Why the fuck is the alien speaking like a schizo on mushrooms? "that hatred of *yours* ...almost comical, yet so similar" god that's so fucking cringe, yeah, 'cause the space jellyfish that canonically is supposed to be mindless without the literal MINDNODE vessel has any understanding of human emotions and just came to have a chat with the organization whose sole purpose is to put it out of existence. Holy fuck this was boring. What the fuck do you have to do in this game to get some action?
Love stuff like this. I honestly wish I could forget all about Freelancer so I could wander about and explore everything brand new all over again. I wanna go through a jump hole to the strangest places, the kind that make you say aloud “Where the hell did I just end up?”
Freelancer is a one-of-a-kind game and one can only hope it one day gets a true successor
