Great instructions, thank you.
Absolutely! I'm hope it helped you out
Do the pieces still fray once they are stuck on ? Did you have any issues with fraying ?
I have not had any issues. It is not a washable project tho. The Karen Buckley scissors help and the iron on keeps the fraying to a minimum
@@quiltedchicken Ok great, thanks !! :)
ABSOLUTELY loved this video. I made a 'map' on a paper that shows the layout of the 6.25" strip. Awesome, have made 28 blocks, and I still refer to it piecing each block. However, I went one step further. On my Cutting table (60" x 40") I lay out masking tape on the cutting mat so that I can lay SEVERAL WOF strips, cutting each section, each of the sub-sections. I don't worry about the smaller sizes. (yeah, my first block is way oversized, but doesn't matter when trimming). Then I sort in to groups, stack, then do the sub-cutting along with my paper piecing. TOTALLY worth purchasing the pre-printed papers.
That sounds like a great idea. Unless you do miniature quilts, the excess you cut off for the first piece is probably waste anyways so smart thinking!
IMO, the book was totally useless. I would never have made the quilt with her instructions. Also working on her Diamond quilt. Had a bundle of fat eights that are awesome. Using her templates on that one.
@BettyBaker411 I know she prefers the templates and uses a lot of scraps, but I really enjoyed the inspiration from all the quilts in the book. We'll be doing another math breakdown soon for the Shooting Star papers.
Such Cute Houses at end!
Thank you! We had fun with those it was a quick enough project and perfect for scraps
Shouldn't you label the pieces as you take them off so as to relocate them on the other side?
Arlene. If you're using the Laura heine method I think it works out that you don't have to flip them like I did. I've only done regular applique and didn't have the iron on that is recommended
Seems like there’s so much waste. Am I wrong?
I don't know that it's any more waste than regular quilting when you don't use the whole strip or cut. If you do more than one of these projects you keep some of your favorite prints and use them on another collage
Love the video, but you gotta find better music! 🤪
Lol. U know it's whatever popped up on adobe as free that TH-cam didn't flag. There's no telling how long I had been at the computer before it was time to pick music. I'll do better next time 😜
Alguém conseguiu fazer?
No estoy seguro de entender la pregunta. Google tradujo a Alguien logró hacerlo.
@@quiltedchicken gracias.
Tape it up on. A picture window!
Oh absolutely! That's great cause I haven't ever seen a light box this big. Thank you!
can this be pieced together without the papers?
Her book "Quilt Recipes" had a printable template. There are also acrylic templates to cut your fabric so you wouldn't need the papers
So much work!❤
Yeah but it's always fun to spend time with the new stuff :)
I just finished my Wensleydale quilt using your tutorial... thank you for the tutorial.. I find it such ease to follow/organise.
I am so glad you found it helpful. My main setback is feeling overwhelmed, so I tried to break it down into doable steps. So glad it helped you too!!
What is the size of the FINISHED block?
Finished block is 11" x 7-1/4"
i have a bunch of Tilda fat quarters i have been saving for something special, could i use them for this quilt? i love this quilt!
You can ABSOLUTELY use them! And they would be perfect! I wish I could see yours come together. I am working on getting specs to do this with FQ
oh my goodness, that will be a great tutorial , thanks so much!
Of course!
Wow, this is going to make it a lot easier, so glad I found your video.
I am too! And I'm so glad it was helpful! I'm hoping to revisit this and actually put some blocks together or do a sew a long. Enjoy!
Wow! This is amazing! You’ve taken what appears to be a very complicated quilt and made it accessible for everyone!❤
I am so glad you found it helpful! I love this process and have really enjoyed the projects we've done with it.
Why are you not tracing on the fuseable before adding to fabric? That would be much simpler.
Charlene, I will have to look at the instructions again. There was something special about her technique, I just didn't get the hang of it until later. It is also possible I was re-drawing the lines to see them better. We will try and revisit this since it was my first one and we learned a lot
@@quiltedchickenthe thing that’s special is that the SS2 is sticky on both sides, you can temporarily stick your pieces down. In order to keep it from mirroring, you partially peel back the paper on the second paper and trace it there. Hard to explain.
@debbiefeaster755 thank you, yes. That's why she recommends the SS2. I didn't have that for this video so it was extra confusing
did you need to get permission to make one of her videos ?
I am not instructing on how to do her technique, I'm just sharing my experience of how we put our project together. Please check Laura Heines site if you have technique questions
I bought your kit for this last week in Paducah. Can’t wait to get started, first time paper piecing, but I think it will work out with your detailed instructions 😊 Thanks for the videos !
Pam! I'm so glad, I hope you post pics so I can see how it's coming!
I am so sorry, but this really confused me.
Jeni, I am really sorry that it was confusing. I will try and find another video maybe from a certified Laura Heine teacher and post that for you
@@quiltedchicken aww thank you so very much. I am trying to learn. I will look up Laura Heine and see what she has. Thank you again.
th-cam.com/video/vGChtn7AjjI/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Here is one of Laura Heine. She explains her technique and tools
@@quiltedchicken Thank you so very much. This did help a lot. You go above and beyond to help and I thank you again. New Subscriber here. Again, thank you.
You have a wonderful eye for design and love your work. So...after this stage how do you stitch everything down? Cross hatching?
Thank you! I really enjoy doing this. I quilted another one of her patterns by going around all the edges. Depending on the size of the piece it tried to pull to one side or another because of all the layers. I have seen where fabric collages are layered with chiffon or a fine tulle so that smaller pieces are protected but don't have to be quilted. You can then stitch the sheer fabric down however you'd like
@@quiltedchicken Though it would be tedious, I feel I would need to quilt all the exposed edges down. Thanks for your suggestions, they are really helpful. Beautiful work!
@@farmgirlw837 that's how I felt on the featherweight collage and it turned out well. I will try and get photos of that one. I just haven't had the time to sit and decide what to do with this one. It just gets rolled up for shows or hangs on the wall as a good work in progress item
I just found you and love your genius process <3. I have the book, the foundation papers, the acrylic and thread sets and have had to walk away when the time came for fabric haha. I now own one of your fabric sets and can’t wait to start…
Iman! I'm so glad. I recognized the name from your order. I'm glad we send out links to this to everyone who buys a bundle in hopes they can get inspiration or courage to start. Sounds like you're fully prepared now to start on this! Happy sewing!
Well - you are not going to believe it but i kind of got carried away and now have 142 sets ready to go -lol. Your set started me then i got daring and started introducing other colors haha
Hahahaha! Hey when the mood hits you gotta keep the juices going! Girl I'm gonna need some pics though!
@@quiltedchicken you will - before then end of this decade i hope -lol- for i am a serial starter haha - i can prove it with pictures; I get the project together, cut it get the rulers, the pattern, the backing etc in a bin that I label - then onto next thrill haha
I Love Collage Quilts. This one, the Honeybee, is fabulous. ❤
Thank you! I've got back on several of her patterns and wish I could do so many more but it's finding the time lol
Me encanta, lastima que no esté en español o subtitulado. ❤
I'm sorry, I'll have to look and see how to do the translation
Te lo agradeceré, porque me gustaría aprender ❤
Es una maravilla!! Una pena no poder subtitularlo ❤❤
I will have to see how I'm able to do that I apologize
I’ve had this pattern for a while now, you’ve gotten me excited to take it out and finally do it. It’s great that you’re offering a kit. It takes time coordinating all the pieces.❤
Pam! Hooray! I love that we helped you with the math party so you can get started and have fun matching the colors! I just sent my mom home with a sample of the green color way bundle we've got.
Thank you very much for sharing this very informative video! I was wondering if you knew if this particular pattern has been done with only 5 colors. That was my original plan.
You are welcome. I am not sure about just the 5 fabrics. I don't see why it wouldn't work, the blocks could all be the same or you'd just have less variation in the scrappy, but if you love the fabrics sure! Go for it
@@quiltedchicken it’s for my grandson and his favorite color is green and he likes the diamond shapes. I’m going to turn them so the diamonds are vertical (7” x 11”) making 10 wide by 8 long about 70” x 88” I’m just starting to work it out in my head lol I so much loved your video!
That will be perfect!
Just came from the Branson show and purchased the fabric bundle and papers. Can't wait to get started. Genius cutting instructions and layouts. Looking forward to receiving the papers in the mail. Going to get started on organizing my fabrics per your video! So glad I was able to meet you and your mom. Etsy store, here I come. :) 😁
Suzy! Hooray! I'm so glad you have a starting point and a heads up on what you can start on now. It was so great meeting all the new friends at Branson! Can't wait to see how you put this together
Use a pin to score the back of the paper makes it easier to peel off. Nice job!
Hey that is perfect. I think last time I just wrinkled everything and let it find a spot to tear. Thank you
What do you do with it when done?
There are a couple options to finish it. The pattern says you can quilt it, with batting and backing, or you can mount it like artwork on a wrap around canvas
I am interested in the book of instructions for quilt recipes! Thank you.
I am SLO’s enjoying the vidio!
www.quiltedchicken.com/listing/1212221229/quilt-recipes-jkd-8717-jen-kingwell
Here we go. I'll have to look to see how many quilt patterns it has and how many did recipes
Did I hear you say in your video that you were going to put together fabric kits for this bee? I absolutely love your fabric choices and your creativity!
Yes we have kits on our website. I will double check the link. I know we cut a second round and I don't think I have photographed the new set of colors. There were a couple of the original prints that we had to substitute
Do you have a video like this for JK Shooting Star ?
Or how can I translate your instructions for a different FPP Quilt?
Stacy. I will have to look up the shooting star pattern. This method works because the pieces can be translated to a square or rectangle. I will take a look at it tho and let you know
Thank you!
I love grunge! Would make a great Temperature quilt. ❤️
I agree! Unfortunately I have not finished mine. I got three months in and then we had to prep for AQS shows, but there are so many grunge choices you could make it whatever you want!
I,ve sat watched a few video's on Collage wll hows it done.love the bees uv,e finished..ty ,question here sem so far in the video no 1 has shown how to finish the last part,as in do u bind the sides, also wen u lay the bee material down, well all the material, how do u finish the sides of the material of not fraying ,,thxx just beautiful ty
Sylvia, thank you. We had fun going through this process. The pattern says you can finish it just like a quilt or you can mount in like artwork, so that part is totally up to you. We finished the singer pattern like a quilt. With a backing and stitching and regular binding. I haven't decided how to finish the bee so when I do I'll be sure and post about that.
Awesome combo of prints! ThankU for pressing tip to emphasize one print over the other at HST seam!! Newz 2 me!!!
Hooray! I'm glad I could help. I don't know how "professional" that advise it but it certainly makes a difference.
Thank you so much for your cutting directions. My Wensleydale is coming along so much faster now!
That is fantastic! I'm so glad!
Wow! You make it look really fun.
It was SO much fun! Picking colors and cutting shapes!
By drawing on the paper of the SS2, is the pattern reversed so you can cut the fabric?
I did not have SS2 to use so I'm not sure if the paper it has is able to be drawn on better. I don't think the directions have you reverse the pattern. It had you peel the paper off and trace on the inside of the paper, the side that gets ironed back onto the fabric. I hope this helps
Late as usual but here now. LOL
This one was a posted video. No way you would want to watch 8 plus hours of me doing this for real. LOL. Sorry we won't see you Monday. Stay warm and safe.
I’d buy an all-green set! As it is I’m collecting bright FQs.
Dorothy! Good to know. Right now I've got a black/brown set we're cutting but I'll put it on the list and let you know!
Have a happy Thanksgiving, God Bless you and your business.
Diane! Happy Thanksgiving!I can't believe this year is almost over! Hope you have a wonderful week as well
How contact you
You can leave any questions here and we'll respond
Thanks so much for putting this tutorial together. I have the book and papers but haven’t been game to dive in. You have given me the confidence to pull fabric and get cracking.
Love to hear that! It's hard seeing a project you love and not knowing where to start. So happy you'll get going on this
Where is your show

I have loved this quilt since I first saw it on the cover of the book. I have the template set, but was stuck with fabric selection. I stumbled across your video, immediately purchased the foundation paper and am now pulling fabrics - Finally in a comfortable position to make this beauty with your video as reference. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!!
Pam! That is so so great! I know why they put this one on the cover. And I'm so glad you found a way you can do it. We're working on a walk through on making the blocks so that may be of help in the future too
So pretty ❤
I agree! I love ALL of the lives from BasicGrey
17:06 your videos was great!! I love the way you organized the fabric for each block! Great idea!
Thank you so much! It takes a little time but then you've got a block ready to go and you don't have to second guess your choices
May use this for Moda BH 5😊
It's a fantastic color way! I love it
Wow I love Laura Heine projects. Just finished my first one - The Featherweight. Is the bee the only one you are kitting? And does the pattern come with it?
It's was a fun project for sure. I also have kits for the featherweight but that won't do you any good. If I can get caught up I'd like to do kits for the sunflower and the unicorn. Those are the only other patterns we've got right now
I love all those colors ! Ommmggg I will buy it and make that wowwww... my hubby is a bee keeper! He has a bee channel too! Under Mr. Ed and bees, or Jeff Horchoff. I made a custom logo wall quilt for his live podcast.
That sounds amazing! I've seen several quilters that have bee interests as well. I will check that out I wanna see your wall hanging!
