There was NOTHING like a Dead show. Love em or hate em, the whole scene was unique. Miss those days! they were magical for me. I had a van and would pile my buddies into it drive all around the west coast in the summers of 93-95’ .we were stinky, long haired high college youth, loving life, falling in love, partying in forests, deserts, cities, beaches, selling weed & grilled cheese to buy tickets & gas money…adventuring all summer, even drove to Deer Creek IA & Vermont. Jerry was starting to fade in a few shows in ‘95 but 90s scene was fun & some nights band was still crazy good. Eugene OR 1994 parking Lot was hands down best 24/hour Parking Lot party of 4 days straight.

We apologize for the terrible sound quality. We didn't realize it until the video was published. We want to thank everyone who joined us live tonight and everyone who tuned in after. We hope we were able to learn something new together. Thumbnail photo was taken by Timothy at the House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 20th, 2013.

In the late '80s and early '90s they would do a run of New Year's shows at the Oakland Coliseum. We lived just far enough away that we would stay overnight at the nearby Holiday Inn. It was walking distance to the venue and because of the number of people, it was a safe walk even at 2:00AM. Anyway, the marquee out front would always announce "WELCOME DEADHEADS", an indicator that that's who would be staying there. And, of course, it was. The scene was particularly funny one evening. While waiting to check in, here comes four young guys through the front door carrying a 6-foot brass hookah on their shoulders. Through the lobby to the elevators and in and up they go! The best part was the look on the manager's face as that, and a lot of other weird stuff, was going on. The parking spaces near the front door were occupied by cars that had backed in, opened their trunks revealing tanks of nitrous oxide and filling balloons that were being handed out to any and all outstretched hands. So, not that much different than the scene in the venue parking lot, but took on an enhanced vibe being at a place like a Holiday Inn.
