    The fact this guys thinks crypto is divorced from the general markets, especially tech, proves a lot of idiots our there making money still in crypto. He's also committing tax fraud in Brazil, interesting for him to admit that. Brazil taxes on capital gains are 15%. He should be paying those and getting credited in the US (which US taxes capital gains on income rate for less than a year and 0% on LT gains and 15% after 40-80k depending on bracket). This guy is so full of ish lol. Seems to have hit the lotto though good for him.

    Isn’t it the responsibility of the attorney to make sure everything is legitimate with the annex ? Curious why the real estate agent didn’t do the negotiations of the sale for you ? Best Wishes Linda & Beth !

    • @LivingLindaAbroad-cd4dg
      @LivingLindaAbroad-cd4dg หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @travelergirl49w53. Thank you for your questions. I reached out to Beth for the answers and here's what she says... 1. Yes, an attorney can access the appropriate documents at the Câmara regarding anything illegal. In my case, I knew from the experience of others to ask. I did not have my attorney hired yet at that early point and the sellers were honest about the issue. 2. Real estate agents here do not work under the same rules as US agents. There are no standards to be held to. I believe the more you are personally involved the better off you will be. For example, in a text to my realtor while I was still in the US I asked if the property line was where I had indicated with a red line on the Google map. He said yes, that was correct. When I came to Portugal to see the house in person, the seller's agent showed me posts that indicated the lot line. It was half the amount of property! My agent, who came highly recommended on the expat pages, was clueless and had done no research. That is typical here.

      @JamesWilliamson-w8y, there are several long-stay visa options to come to Portugal besides the Golden Visa. D7 Visa (Passive Income Visa): Suitable for retirees or individuals with stable passive income from sources like pensions, real estate, or investments. Applicants must demonstrate a minimum passive income, which varies based on family size, and secure accommodation in Portugal. D2 Visa (Entrepreneur Visa): Aimed at entrepreneurs and independent professionals intending to establish a business or practice in Portugal. Applicants need to present a viable business plan, proof of financial means, and demonstrate the potential economic, technological, or cultural impact of their business. Digital Nomad Visa: Introduced in October 2022, this visa caters to remote workers employed by companies outside Portugal. Applicants must show proof of employment, a minimum income threshold, and health insurance.

    Thanks for sharing this video. Please ask your guests the US tax repercussions on their income. Thank you.

    • @LivingLindaAbroad-cd4dg
      @LivingLindaAbroad-cd4dg 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @patric5076, while I'm not a tax professional (so please seek counsel from a tax professional/accountant) When a U.S. citizen relocates to Portugal, it's essential to understand the tax obligations in both countries to ensure compliance and optimize tax benefits. Here's an overview: U.S. Tax Obligations: Worldwide Income Taxation: The United States taxes its citizens on their global income, regardless of where they reside. This means that even after moving to Portugal, U.S. citizens must file an annual U.S. tax return and report all income earned worldwide. Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE): To mitigate double taxation, the FEIE allows eligible expats to exclude a certain amount of foreign-earned income from U.S. taxation. For the 2024 tax year, this exclusion is up to $120,000. To qualify, one must meet either the Bona Fide Residence Test or the Physical Presence Test. Foreign Tax Credit (FTC): If income exceeds the FEIE limit or doesn't qualify for exclusion, the FTC permits taxpayers to offset U.S. tax liability with taxes paid to foreign governments, such as Portugal. This credit helps prevent double taxation on the same income. Portuguese Tax Obligations: Tax Residency: Individuals spending more than 183 days in Portugal within a 12-month period or maintaining a habitual residence there are considered tax residents. Portuguese tax residents are taxed on their worldwide income. Non-Habitual Resident (NHR) Regime: Portugal offers the NHR program to attract foreign professionals and retirees. Under NHR, qualifying individuals can benefit from a flat 20% tax rate on certain Portuguese-source income and may receive exemptions on foreign-source income, depending on specific conditions. However, it's crucial to note that the NHR regime is set to end on January 1, 2024, with applications accepted until March 31, 2025. U.S.-Portugal Tax Treaty: The U.S. and Portugal have a tax treaty designed to prevent double taxation and clarify tax obligations. However, the treaty includes a "saving clause" that allows the U.S. to tax its citizens as if the treaty were not in effect, ensuring that U.S. citizens remain subject to U.S. taxation on their worldwide income.

      After a year of massive research (including travel) on about a dozen countries, we have opted for the slow travel route. But we do not want to move any more frequently than we have to. For one thing, we have dogs. So, 90 days in a Schengen country, 90 days out, 90 days back, etc. We'll be seeing a lot of Ireland, the UK, Portugal, Spain, and France. With some shorter "touriest" trips to other countries. Hopefully that teaches of us if one of them is suitable for long-term residency.

    • @izzytoons
      @izzytoons 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aufteist Well, dropping the old tax regime that attracted immigrants will certainly slow down immigration. Channels like these should put a broad description of the tax situation front and center. It is a critical issue to grappling what your cost of living will be. If you're going to paying 47% for your income over $70K, that may be a deal-breaker. But you need to know the tax rates when comparing what your income would be there. Yes, there may be some applicable deductions, and you will need a tax expert, and channels like this cannot tackle that, but they can give you a general idea of whether a country has high, moderate, or low taxes for most people who will maybe have no or just a few deductions. Also, is passive income taxed in that country? At what rate? Is 401k income taxed? At what rate? If you sell a property in the U.S., will you pay capital gains tax in your country of residence abroad? At what rate? Does the country have a tax treaty with the U.S. These are basic, fundamental issues that people considering moving ANYWHERE must know UP FRONT. They could be an immediate dealbreaker, in which case the rest of the information is irrelevant. I really wish channels would start with the taxes, then the cost of living. Are the taxes high? Does the cost of living offset the high taxes entirely, or at least enough to justify embracing all the other benefits? (natural beauty, metropolitan attractiveness, social life, food, friendliness, etc.)

    Aristides de Sousa Mendes by his full name Aristides de Sousa Mendes do Amaral e Abranches(Cabanas, Carregal do Sal, 19 July 1885 - Mártires, Lisbon, 3 April 1954), was a Portuguese diplomat. As consul of Portugal in Bordeaux in the year of the invasion of France by Nazi Germany in the Second World War, he defied express orders from the dictator António de Oliveira Salazar, who held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, and for three days and three nights granted thousands of visas entry into Portugal for refugees of various nationalities who wished to flee France in 1940.

    There is no real estate aggregator, that is true, but you'll be hard pressed to find a property that is not advertised in Idealista - so, in practice, there is no need for an aggregator website. And why would you need an agent to find a property? Just visit any properties you want, and then get legal help with the buying process if you don't feel at ease doing it all by yourself.

    • @LivingLindaAbroad-cd4dg

      Thank you for your comment. Buying a property can be a time consuming process, an aggregator website can provide prospective buyers with detailed information on each property for sale, including features, size of lot/house, and listing price to make sure it ticks some of your boxes without visiting in person thus saving time.
