Hi! It's been a minute since I posted but I'm back! Some of you might know that playing fast is not my forte, so I've been trying to improve by learning pieces like this one. In this video, I share how I learned Chopin's Prelude Op. 28 No. 10 and brought it up to speed. Things like this take a lot of time (at least for me), but there were some tricks that I used to make it a bit easier. I hope ...

Life update: I started a new job teaching piano to (mostly) kids. I've never taught piano before so it's been a whirlwind getting acclimated to this new job. Unfortunately that means I haven't had as much time to make videos, but I don't plan to stop! I just might not be able to post as frequently. Thank you for sticking with me! In this video I share a bit of what I've been working on- a fairl...
Do you criticize yourself while practicing piano? How to stop being so negative.

How often do you criticize yourself when you practice piano or another instrument? I used to be extremely hard on myself, which made practicing not fun. In this video I share how I retrained my brain to stop being so negative. It's changed my whole experience of practicing and I hope it can help you too! Instagram: stanleydo
Best Fingers to Trill on Black Keys Are... 2 & 4??

Hope you guys don't mind a short video this time! Something I discovered when learning Chopin's Nocturne Op. 48 No. 2 was that the best fingers to trill on black keys are actually 2 and 4. I know it seems unlikely, but I wanted to share why this works in case it can help you too! Instagram: stanleydo

How do you balance your hobbies/passions when you get busy? It's been kind of crazy for me lately taking care of a new puppy and preparing for a new job. I've haven't had as much time as I want to practice piano. Trying to Learn New Music But I Suck at Sight-Reading
มุมมอง 3703 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm currently working on Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 3. I'm a TERRIBLE sight-reader and this is what it looks like when I learn new music. I have to break everything down into really smart sections, even just a measure at time (or less), then tackle each one very slowly. It's probably not the most efficient way of learning music, but like I said, I suck at sight-reading 🤷🏻♂️ I'd love to know h...

Thank you … this helped me very much … your voice is pleasant ..
Hey Stanley It's not boring at all, especially watching a pianist as handsome as you practising and narrating.Your voice is so magnetic😉 Couldn't wait to see you do the remaining movements and the final performance of the entire Sonata !
@@peterchan6082 thank you Peter ☺️
As an old age Pensioner I cannot afford to have a Teacher, so I have no alternative but to teach myself. However, in a sense it has been a blessing in disguise since I am forced to work things out for myself and that is satisfying. I learn from young pianists like yourself by watching Tutorials on TH-cam. Thanks and thanks and forever thanks, for sharing your own experience.
I am so proud of you. I am a 79 year old Australian and just started learning to play this piece which my dear mother used to sing. Thank you for your helpful comments and hope to see more teaching videos from you in the future. Best Wishes.
Thanks so much for your advice. I got very small hands n can’t play an octave properly definitely fail to play consecutive octaves could you please recommend some composers whose work are using fewer Octaves for grade 8 or above Thanks
We can use also the pedal
Where you?
thanks, I will try the 1:2 and 2:3 later...
I felt so submerged listening to you playing with my eyes closed, that I somehow forgot my surroundings 😂 When you asked “wanna go for a walk?” I confusedly replied “what? ” Took me a while to realize. It was that good. ❤ Would be nice to see more from you if you feel up to it. Hope you are doing well!
How about thinking of breaking it down to two blocks of 6 vs 11? :)
You don’t solve this. You play it. If I have any suggestion it is to work much harder on the left hand. Let the left hand conduct and sing along.
That was inspiring, thank you!!!! Regards from Chile
Love your playing, and love to see more of your videos ! I have been keeping an average of 2 hour's practice per day, at least 5 - 6 days per week. I absolutely agree on 'decades' that you mentioned. Chopin's Etude in Thirds and Liszt's Feux Follets took me some NINETEEN YEARS of polishing (albeit on and off) since I had acquired them way back in 2005 ! Currently still polishing on them (together with Chopin's B minor Sonata Op.58 which I had recently acquired), and acquiring the F major Etude Op.10 no.8.
i would never stretch....if you want to be better i would recommend taking technical exercises like Czerny op 740...i got small hands and can't stretch to 9th keys....my biggest problem is playing four finger chords....like rag music....practice swapping fast
Thanks very useful
Peaceful scenery . I play this too… I love it … just emotional … lyrical … I’m a big Chopin player
Personally, getting into piano as an adult was mainly for stress relief. I wasn't too concerned with getting everything from the start like staccato, legato, dynamics, etc. After hours of playing my techniques gradually improved. The end result is that I have the confidence to play many intermediate pieces at friends' gatherings or on a public piano. People playing only the teacher's assigned repertoire is common when we're younger. Growing up without the Internet, finding pieces we wanted took extra effort to go to a music store or a public library. Today sheet music is accessible online but many who are at a beginner or lower intermediate level wouldn't find their own pieces due to their lack of playing techniques unless they're self-learners. When people feel their reading skill is inadequate, they'd stick to assigned pieces and would only try a piece after the teacher did a class demo.
This is so helpful! Thank you 🙏🏻
This subject is always approached with the same excuses but the truth is that size matters. You can use as many trick/maneuver as you want, keeping other variables under control, if you had a greater reach, in addition to being less prone to injuries, you would have a greater performance. This is physics! Usain Bolt took advantage of the height and greater leg-to-body ratio and Michael Phelps also took advantage of the length of his arms and torso. Likewise, all pianists with long, thin fingers also have an advantage. This doesn't mean you can't play the piano, and if you're really good, you might even be able to play better than most, but that's until you find someone who is equally good but has a physical advantage. Just accept this fact, stop crying and if you really love to play piano, study/train as much as possible with wich you literally have at hand.
Appreciate how you played it slow, I don’t know why this piece is always played so fast tempo.
First off. Lose the gay voice.... it gratuitous (yes I'm gay myself). I've been following for a while... leavinme feeling bereft of any real connection you have to the work/ peices/ etc. I would advise pianists disregard what you preach.... You are clearly quite talented.... nevertheless, Chopin is not your muse.
People have made fun of my gay voice my entire life. I can’t just “lose” it. Grow up.
Omg that was good She played itt Gratéley 👍👍💃
We have the same mind. I used the same method as you. I still struggle with the variation at the end.
Thanks for making this video, high quality and good down to earth advice
Thank you! Happy to help!
Very beautifully done. You play it a little slower than the usual, but it works! I think it makes that 12:22 rhythm much more beautiful; dreamy. I'm struggling with this one right now, also. Thanks for the tips!
Does anyone ever play it the very same way twice? I think Chopin meant it to be an improvisational phrase. That's what makes this nocturne so beautiful and ethereal.
Extremely helpful video, thank you. I also just start learning piano again as a senior adult. Pls produce more videos!
You made an amazing channel with precious information for musicians ❤
Amazing channel and great information. Thanks
I am an UTTER NOVICE trying to understand learning it as it so captivating and it scrambles my mind 🤯
What is really needed is for manufacturers to make smaller keyboards. It turns out that the standard octave span of 6.5 inches is to large for the majority of people. There are a few but the prices are excessive.
Rescue video 😄
Thank you so much for your video, it is very clear and helped me a lot to understand how to play this 11 notes.
Excellent solution, ultimately, not really a complex polyrhythm
Very helpful. And you play beautifully.
I LOVE your channel man. Such a gem ❤
Is this your parents house? How do you afford such a life?
Parents house for sure, otherwise the style of the living area seems out of place for a young guy somehow
Thank you fot this video, this is sooo helpful ❤️ I wanna tell you some of my experience. When I first performed in college, I hadn't any anxiety before the performance, but as soon as I sat down at the piano I was so scared, honestly, I've never played so badly. So i understood that i should do smth with it. I watched a lot of videos, and tried to do as they said. And i played very great! So, here's what affected it: 1) i had much more support from teachers, classmates, family etc 2) i tried to ignore bad thoughts, i tried to think only about good things 3) during the performance, I didn't think about the audience, but about the music I was playing, and when I made some mistakes, I didn't focus on it, I just continued playing 4) I made my mind to think not selfishly, I mean the music which I play is much important than me, I'm just a person sharing this wonderful piece I think it's all, hope it will help someone. And I really hope that it will work for the next performances too😅
I've never learned a piece that had polyrhythm before but I just started practising these sections over and over until I got more muscle memory and fluidity and I've found that one of the biggest contributors to progress is.. SLEEP. Something happens in the brain during sleep that makes you already play it better the following day and it's pretty funny to notice how obvious it is.
Funny thing about this is when I started to notice how much better I got at a piece the next day, I started looking forward to sleeping and playing and practicing the next day...
I don't understand how you have such few subs. Your content is such good quality
Me when I’ve been trying to learn the piece for a 4 months and he shows me up with one day of practice 💀
Great video it's very helpful, I am French, keep doing this you deserve more success for sure. It would be nice to add the sheets on a link in the description because I realised that mine is slightly different. good luck :)
Great video ❤. Is it too early to learn this piece if I am 15 years old?
Sorry you might not care anymore cause your comment is almost 6 months old lol but not at all. I finished this piece at last year and I was 14 years old.
@@1respect186It is ok, I still care. Thanks for the answer.)
Sorry for my second comment in a day, but i'm very sad to see you not had posted other videos from several month, I discover your channel only today and I am literally kidnapped... Your way to talk about the music, the journey of an adult want start to play...is really motivational... so I hope to see you soon with new content... for now I continue to watch your journey, connected to mine... best wishes!!
You have a beautyfull soul...Thank you
Thank you - the commentary is insightful and also helps with my own practice. Don’t stress that it’s boring, you have mixed it up well and it’s interesting to see how to get so accomplished. The final result is superb, I enjoyed listening. Please post the full version!
